I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials to great effect, but it recently stopped working on me. I contacted Microsoft support, but after suggesting something that didn't fix the problem, they have yet to get back to me.
Symptoms:
- on boot, I get the following error message:
An error has occurred in the program. Try to open it again. If the problem continues, you'll need to reinstall Microsoft Security Client.
Error code: 0x8007064e
- when I try to uninstall MSE, it wants me to locate an .msi file that's on my HDD. Even though I point the installer in the right direction, that same window pops up. This means I can't uninstall MSE either.
Suggestions? Thanks in advance.
EDIT: The Microsoft guy suggested I use msconfig to boot without certain Windows services and then use regedit to remove some installer registry keys tied to MSE. That didn't work.
