Is there a site like MMO Champion for D3? I'm curious.
Not really, no. MMO champ itself does some news on it from time to time, but nothing like its WoW coverage. Diablofans is part of the mmo champ family but they don't do anywhere near as good a job as Boub does, so it isnt really the same.

That's too bad. Maybe someone will fill the void. MMO champ was an excellent resource when I played WoW.
The entire beta process is for their online infrastructure. It could very well come crashing down to pieces from the way they talk. They don't care about the game (to use some hyperbole), they want to test B.net.
Someone start posting good write ups of the leaked skills etc. Chinese scares me!
And I really hope Diablofans does end up doing as good a job as MMO champion once they have actual news to work with. Right now they have nothing to post most of the time, but spin out short novels on nothing. Brevity and more information will hopefully spring forth soon.

I figured they limited the D2 stress test so much to minimize the size of the client download. This served the dual purpose of a) reducing the strain of a ton of people downloading the test from their file servers and b) allowed more people to actually be able to download and play the test. This was back when many internet users, myself included, were still on dial-up or other similarly shitty connections. The closed beta client would have likely been too large for them to expect a lot of people to download reasonably.
Obviously that shouldn't really be a concern now so they could probably just have the stress test client be the entire (still pretty limited) closed beta client. I wonder how confident they are in their servers, because day one is going to be a buttfucking and far, far more of a strain than SC2 day one.
Ah good call. Now that you mention it, I even vaguely recall them stating that as the reason (along with removing assets for the other Acts and such)
The beta client has been leaked on the Diablo Inc Gamers forums (it's a legitimate .exe)
It's pointless without a beta key though, but at least you can admire the launcher :P
I learned my lesson with WoW, in that delving into the metagame basically ruined the whole experience for me. I will quite happily ignore loot tables and probability ratios and rune stat min-maxing when I get into Diablo III. If a shiny thing falls, I'll give it a go and see if I like it.
It'll probably make me a sub-par Diablo player, but my ignorance will be blissful.

Not entirely pointless -- people have started datamining the crap out of it.
Edit: Sorry. I didn't really see how the URL could be construed as a spoiler, but I guess if you're really sensitive to possible spoilers, you should avoid reading it.

Like i said on the last page, theres a lot of spoilers floating around now because of the datamining, like the names of all the locations in all 4 acts for example.

I agree with this. When people started rushing through the game, it died for me. So, you're going to create a character, have someone else rush you from normal to hell and then leech off of other people until you hit a high enough level to do some things yourself? Oh, and you're going to be fully equipped with items you found on other characters? So... why are you "playing" this game?
I usually ran through the game on each character as it should be and it was generally a great experience each time.

I hate being that guy, but if any of you saw the Deus Ex: Human Revolution thread in its previous iterations, you'd know that discussion about leaked clients and such is a VERY FUCKING BAD IDEA.
Let's not lose the Diablo 3 thread to that shit. Just a heads up.
Edit - And if you have contention with me bringing up this warning, feel free to PM me to argue about it, because that's not Diablo 3 discussion, that's forum policy discussion. Now to wage a battle with myself about data-mining and whether or not its worth peeking elsewhere.
People have been 'powergaming' D2 for years, they're not going to stop now. And knowing all the rune effects etc isn't really going to hurt your enjoyment any.

Question... what would you need an MMO Championesque site for in Diablo III? Set bosses will not have set drops and there will not be competition for "world first" boss kills like in WoW. I don't think D3 really lends itself to that sort of constant coverage on items and such, since generally items can drop off anything high enough level. The closest a fan site would be able to do is take the list of items from Blizzard's official D3 guide (which will be helmed by GFraizer again and is thus guaranteed to be awesome) and say "yeah, you can find this item on Act 4 Nightmare or higher" for each one.

MMO Champ's primary function is actually the consolidation of news and information from many sources into a single site. Datamined stuff, hints that are interpreted, information drops that are intentional or not - MMO Champ is REALLY on top of things in a damn near obsessed manner.

Closest thing to an MMOchampion-esque site there is.

I'm mostly thinking good, consolidated datamining info. The D3 version of Arreat Summit will cover a lot of the same stuff post-release, I just want it now.

Is Blizzard going to make an Arreat Summit sort of site for Diablo 3? That motherfucker who has been maintaining AS is probably starving for something relevant to work on.

Does this get anyone else even more excited about the game? Getting these little glimpses into the world and the mechanics is making me all fidgety like when I was a kid at Christmas.

He works for blizzard and he is going to be doing one for Diablo 3. Well, him and his team.
I think the new rune effects I'm most excited about are the chain knockbacks some skills get. For example:
Rune_C#Barbarian_Cleave Scattering Blast
On critical hits, knock enemies back {Script Formula 2} yards and inflict [{Script Formula 9}*100]% weapon damage to enemies where they land. Enemies knock each other back up to {Script Formula 25} times.
So you can knock a swarm of enemies around like bowling pins, and damage the ones in the back with the ones in the front.
That's awesome.

Just got all this news and the launcher.
So. Fucking. Excited. I've been scouring the community forums for a blue post. Seriously you're client just hit the fan and you're not going to say anything? Jay's probably chugging down some Captain Morgan in his pirate hat while listening to Jack Sparrow by Lonely Island.
also i looooooooooove that each rune gives the spell a different name or like, sub name so instead of differentiating by color you can associate it with something
Reading the DiabloFans forums is like staring into a black fucking hole. Their level of obsession is kind of frightening.
I'm excited for the beta, too, but geez guys. Geez.
Well, y'know. Blizzard fans!
The game is kind of a long time coming. I can get the hype to some extent, and you know people tend to exaggerate on the net. And coupled with people's inability to properly express themselves, and also that normal means of expression ("I'm excited" vs. "OMG DICKS CUMMING") somehow doesn't cut it these days in society...

I just found out about the secret level. And I hope to God that Blizzard sticks to their guns on it.
All I'm gonna say is the whole point of the Secret Cow Level was the juxtaposition. This new secret level is perfect for it. And if people start swearing up and down the wall about how it's a disgrace, or how Blizzard sold out, etc, those people will no longer allowed to have fun or appreciate humor.

I read the barb and sorc wizard skill lists, along with the leaked info about what each of the runes do to the skill.
I will punch anyone in the face who makes claims about "lack of customizability". Seriously. That shit is whack.
