I was kinda interested in using the PSV as my entertainment system (Game system? Get outta here!) but with the latest reveal on the lack of internal storage and the insane prices on memory cards I've changed my mind.

I bet the next revision will have SD card support or something.

Max Payne in a modern third-person shooter could be good. It all depends on whether he's locked in there with them, or they're locked in there with him.

The rest of the game is superb though.
This game looks like it takes itself too seriously, so I doubt there will be anything cool like all the Twin Peaks references from the only real Max Payne games there are.

Probably not... Sony loves, loves, loves their proprietary formats.

While the ability to stream video games as you're playing them will be nice, I'm not sure the best strategy to fight smartphones is to copy their exact same features.

Images like these (with other characters) are all over the internet.

In response to PayPal sucking shit:
Wikipedia has a pretty good list of criticisms, but the reason I've boycotted them was because a friend of mine runs a website where she sells products that can be paid for via PayPal. She launched a new product, it was featured on a popular website, she got a shit ton of orders, and PayPal froze her account. This meant she couldn't actually pay the supplier for her product, and she had a fuck of a time dealing with PayPal to get her account unfrozen.

The best part is that this is a common occurrence if your account sees a large amount of deposits in a short period. As in, it happens all the damn time.

This interview with the new head of Rare oughta wake up this sleepy thread.
    ...

No big surprise to the studio’s new leader, Scott Henson, a 16-year Microsoft veteran who was given the role of overseeing Rare last October.

“We didn’t fall off the map. We might have changed and evolved. Our focus is different, but we haven’t fallen off the map.”

For gamers, it’s easy to think otherwise. That’s what happens when a company goes from working on some of the biggest video game franchises (Donkey Kong Country, Banjo-Kazooie) to the aforementioned Ghoulies.

“Fallen off the map is interesting when you sell over three million units,” said Henson. “I like that falling off the map. It’s great success in this industry.”

To be fair, Rare has done what many studios can only dream of, creating a successful IP praised by reviewers and loved by millions, something it’s made a habit of in its 26-year history.

“If you look at what Rare has done,” Henson continued, “whether it was Killer Instinct in the arcade or Donkey Kong Country and pushing pre-rendered graphics, they always innovate as a studio. That has stayed the same.”

“The studio created a new beloved franchise in Kinect Sports. There’s more than three million people that have this in their homes, playing and loving it. The difference is we started from scratch, instead of something people know, like Donkey Kong.”

What about living up to Microsoft’s $375 million?

“We absolutely have. We delivered as much to the platform as any other studio. With the success of Kinect Sports and what I believe will be a successful Season Two, I think Rare lived up to its potential.”

That, of course, is debatable. If anything, Rare has finally hit its stride, first with the Avatars- a project Henson says “goes far beyond anything the studio has ever done”- and now with Kinect Sports and its promising sequel.

His biggest challenge, though, is to put the company back into the mind of our friend on the plane, who like many gamers, clings to Rare’s past instead of what appears to be a promising future.

“It’s a new day,” said Henson. “We’re excited about Season Two and it’s something to celebrate. The title itself is about connecting people to video games. It’s a new Rare. It’s an exciting place to push boundaries for what’s possible.”

    Oh bugger.
Nintendo this week officially confirmed that it's planning to release a cradle add-on that will give the 3DS handheld another circle pad analog. Some might think it's an odd move for the leader in handheld gaming, but Call of Duty publisher Activision appears to be supportive of Nintendo's decision.

In a phone conversation today with IndustryGamers, Activision Publishing boss Eric Hirshberg called it a "smart move."

We specifically asked Hirshberg if Activision intended to support 3DS with more shooters since a second analog would make it more compatible with that genre and other genres that might fit better on the Sony's PlayStation Vita.

"Your thinking is very similar to mine. It does make the hardware more relevant and compatible to the style of games we make," Hirshberg responded. "I don't have anything to announce in relation to that, but I think it was a great move and it opens up that platform to more styles of games."

Perhaps we'll see a dual-analog supported Call of Duty on 3DS in the not so distant future?

Someone on 2ch postulated that there's a very exploitable market of people in their 20s/30s who grew up with RPGs that simply aren't being catered too. More importantly it highlights how early failures with the ineptly localized 360 and hopelessly casual Wii have sent the wrong signals, and made them overlook how much the PS3 userbase wants jRPGs. Specifically, I think if Mistwalker were on board with PS3 they'd be one of the most successful developers in Japan.

Anyway, amazing numbers of Xillia. I wonder how low 3DS will drop before stabilizing?

It came out a couple weeks ago, apparently.

They praised the fun of skillshots, a few fun guns and appealing environments but criticized the flat gameplay, a short 6 hour campaign, atrocious enemy AI and limiting multiplayer modes. IGN gave Bodycount a 6 out of 10 rating. They praised the several fun moments within the campaign as well as the gun fights but criticized the game for limiting what a player can do as opposed to what the game expects the player to do. They also stated that it lacks polish and entertainment value of video games it's trying to mimic.

I'm guessing it didn't sell well. Hence the layoffs.

My game collection is the one area of the house my wife has agreed to never mess with. That's my section of the house.

We're both selling some games to pay off some debt. She sold Earthbound, EVO, and Super Mario RPG, so it's only fair I sell some of mine.

Popful Mail hasn't gone up yet, but it will soon.. with the guide it's worth quite a bit, so good news for us. Albert Odyssey and Magic Knight Rayearth may hit ebay soon, too.

And on that note... how about those video games not going up in value anymore? I mean.. anything recent. It makes a lot of sense, sure, but it's kind of depressing. :P

Edit: Suikoden 5 was alright, though the conversations were really slow. And I liked Tierkreis well enough.

Well...with Digital distribution making it a lot easier to get old games at non-rape prices it is to be expected.

    Not to mention remakes/releases.

I was more talking about newer titles not being rare. You don't really have those limited run titles anymore. The only companies that are selling games with limited runs are producing just enough to fill the demand.
