the boss fight in the leak was not poop from a butt at all
might not have been the best thing in the world but it was fine and is such a small part of the game that it's barely worth mentioning. if you hate it just knock down the difficulty and finish it quickly

Protip: How about we don't talk about the fucking leak? Even if it is in hindsight.

The game comes out in nine hours and people have had copies of it for the 360 since last week. There's really no point in still pretending some of us didn't play it.

Its times like this I wish I could reach through the intertubes and slap people. Seriously, we already had one thread locked because of it and it is piracy so lets just leave it and carry on.

holy lol, i just found out another friend i told about the deal last week totally fucked it up -
Him: 34?
Him: wait a minute... where was that at?
Me: wait
Him: i went to that link you sent me
Me: ok ya
Me: it was 34 dollars...
Him: and for some reason i think t fucked up
Me: er..
Me: how do you fuck up typing in a coupon?
Him: THERE WAS A COUPON!?!
Him: thats retarded.
Me: it's 15% off
Me: and then they have a 20% off coupon that stacks
Me: THAT'S THE ENTIRE POINT
Me: wtf i told you this specifically
Him: erh. whatever. it was still cheaper than on steam
Me: ask for a refund asap
Me: and then rebuy it
Me: their support people are super good
Him: its too late - i already claimed the code
Me: ok
Me: i don't
Me: http://www.greenmangaming.com/
Me: look at the front page
Me: in huge front
Me: about the coupon
Him: what i don't get. is why the coupon isn't just automatically inputed
Me: it's not some special deus ex coupon you doofus
Me: it's a site wide coupon
Me: you can use it on anything
Me: i mean i feel really bad for you now
Him: erhhh its only like 10 bucks
Me: lol ya i suppose
Him: you can just get me 2 beers next time we go out
Me: why would i give you beers
Me: when you're the retarded one
Him: BECAUSE YOU NEED TO PITTY ME.
Me: more like make fun of you
But I really hate it when a game is criticized for not going the "modern" route on reflex. The old approaches had virtues too, and going with health regen, two weapons, and ADS without bothering with five minutes asking "does this fit our game better than the alternatives", that ain't a virtue.
The vast majority of video game journalism is absolute garbage written by college drop outs that couldn't hack it in the real world. Is it any surprise that the same idiots that cry IT'S A CAWD RIPOFF would also cry IT'S NOT ENOUGH LIEK CAWD?
Seriously, we already had one thread locked because of it and it is piracy so lets just leave it and carry on.
Honest question: Is it really evil piracy when even the guys at Eidos were like "eh whatever, it's cool, enjoy it" ?
Better question: Is it piracy if one owns the game? I'm fairly certain one can't steal something they paid for already.

Gamespot review is up. 8.5. Means nothing since they gave Deus Ex 1 an 8.2

Jesus jumped up Christ just shut up about the leak. Don't you guys understand 'Better safe than sorry'? Discuss game content when the damn thing unlocks for the masses.
It would be extremely wise to not mention the leak. Just wait until midnight, then talk all you want. Even if you're not in a region where it's unlocked. But talking about it now might lose us the damned thread.
No I don't.

This has nothing to do with Deus Ex, but you're ascribing continuity where you really shouldn't. Greg Kassavan gave Deus Ex 1 an 8.2 a decade ago. That is a really long time ago, and a bare fraction of the same people still work there as far as I know.

And moving away from nefarious talk, we should just get the thread locked anyway, since the game doesn't release til friday for me, it'll help me stay clear of spoilers

Pfft, being scared of the mods is never a good way to live. (Also, we're not saying anything at all about actual content, just discussing ethics due to massive boredom since we're all sitting here waiting for Tuesday)
So they say the game is roughly 25-40 hours on your first playthrough. Carry the 1 and that's about 15-20 hours for people who have played video games before.
That's pretty good. Multiple endings may add some meat to the replays as well.

Ars Technica is the only site that I bother reading reviews on due to them being the only trustworthy website left.
Ben Kuchera is a classy gent.
Regarding scores: 8.2 is pretty good considering what a mess Deus Ex's interface was. I loved the game, but I can't bring myself to play it anymore. Seems this one has some pretty noticeable flaws, too (batteries for stealth kills that you can recharge by drinking a potion eating a piece of food? Pffffft), but 8.5 is no where near a bad score.
I don't like that takedowns are tied to battery. If I can sneak up on two separate nearby guards undetected and take one out silently, I shouldn't have to wait to recharge and do the same to his friend. Getting close enough to do a takedown undetected should be the cost of the skill.

Are you some kind of crazy bizarro person? Deus Ex had an excellent interface. Practically the only thing that could really be considered a problem with it was that you couldn't drop items by dragging them out of your inventory.

They limited it because with the system they have set up you would be able to run around and kill everybody in the world with ease by pressing the "I Win" button over and over again otherwise. If they had gone with a deeper melee system it might have been possible to do what you want, but they opted for cutscene kills and this was the best way they could find to balance it.
Couldn't resist the $34 offer from Green Man Games based on all the glowing reviews. My body is ready (to be horribly mutilated and replaced by machine bits).

It's pretty obvious you don't own it until they actually give it to you.
Not that obvious, considering:
a. You've paid them already, and it's done. In business to business sales, finishing the product early results in a 30 second phonecall,
"Hey, this is Joe's Metals, and your work is done. Can someone receive a shipment Tuesday?"
"Yeah, sure. Thanks for getting it done so early."
b. Really, you could only consider it illegal or morally wrong under the most legalistic, pedantic system that has nothing to do with social benefit or justice. If I sign for my house at 10:00 am and start putting furniture on the lawn from the moving truck at 9:00 am, you could say I am "trespassing," but the opinion of any reasonable person would be that I got an early start to no one's detriment.
Pirating a game you've preordered is less morally wrong than failing to hold the door for someone right behind you, if at all.
Since there's been some confusion, you are still not allowed to talk about the leak on this fucking forum. The people who did are no longer allowed to post in this or any other Deus Ex thread. Please report them if they do.
Please do not simply sit around and metamod without using the report button.
So I watched the launch trailer. BAD IDEA. I saw something pretty mental that I wish I hadn't seen and it is now scarred into my grey matter because I was expecting something spoilery:
Fully augmented man! Holy shit! Man or machine? Godlike man machine?
Just watched Johnny Mnemonic. I'll have to say Minority Report's vision of the future was more in line with what DX:HR seems to be. Johnny Mnemonic's version of the future is too grimy, and borderline post apocalyptic.
But it had augs! Crazyass street preacher was one of Dolph Lundgren's best roles.

So what sort of playthrough is everyone planning on doing for their first run? Seeing as I expect most people will go stealth, I think I may try my hand at a straight up combat-focused character, with a side of strength and agility.

Many fridges will be thrown.
I'll go for hacker/sniper. That'll probably be a stealthish character? I also love getting super human augs like super jump or super speed. I'd hate to pass those by.
Really I haven't read up on the game much at all, so I'll have to look at the progression system to decide.

It is a Steamworks game so there's a pretty good chance of yes.

... goddamn it I want to play.

People still read Gamespot? Has anyone taken them seriously since Kane & Lynch? Or worse yet, the Force Unleashed II video review?

The future starts so slow.
Too bad I won't be able to play it tomorrow.
They tried to bury us. They didn't know that we were seeds. 2018 Midterms. Get your shit together.
