is there a way to deal with the drug dealers without murdering them? doesnt seem to be a convo path and my atempts to woo them into submission by my awesome basketball skills seem to have failed.
You can takedown anyone, even civillians. Non-lethal weapons are also an option.

i pondered that but
that doesnt seem to me like taking care of the problem in the long run, since they will just wake up sooner or later, i was thinking more along the lines or arresting to convincing them to leave tindell alone?
hmm. So I was using non-lethal takedowns and dragging thugs to a hiding place and when I came there a third time I noticed some were dead...
Question to anybody who has completed the game and earned the pacifist achievement: did you have any npcs that just 'died' along the way?
I had a weird moment recently; after non-lethally taking down a bunch of gang-bangers, some nearby punks got angry and started shooting at me. I didn't engage any of them, but instead waiting for their hostile status to go away, then went down a ladder into the sewer.
When I came back up later, about 4 punks were lying dead on the street. :-/

There's always the CASSIE aug. AKA the "Don't bother me with your stupid fetch quest bullshit and just give me what I want" aug.
Everything looks beautiful when you're young and pretty

Luckily you're playing Deus Ex and it doesn't care about your logic. Those guys were still sleeping when I left Detroit.

I tried out the CASIE aug on the dick in the police station in Detroit, and after not being able to make heads or tails of it, I reloaded an earlier save and spent the points on something else.

You have to keep an eye on their personality type and when it comes to using the pheromones just use whichever was the most prevalent throughout the conversation.
The notes on the right give you an idea what choices to use in the main convo. For instance with the dude in the station it mentions
something about needing reassurance and forgiveness, so you basically defend his actions in shooting the kid and say it wasn't his fault and it gives you sway with him.
It has two functions. The main function, which I believe works on any conversation, is a meter that displays their personality type. At some point in the conversation you're given the option to spray pheromones at them which will influence their thinking. Then you use the dialogue options that play toward their personality type. The other function, which activates in the more important conversations, gives you an analysis of their personality and how they behave in order to pick the right dialogue option plus a persuasion meter that tells you how well you're doing. It's a really great augment. A lot of fun.

Holy fucking shit. That sounds rad. Especially the pheromones part.
The social aug does not work on every conversation. It's only real function is to get to the Pheromone-Spray part and be able to guess which final conversation will win them to your side. It helps to get information otherwise lost, but of course it isn't a game breaker, and one doesn't really "need" it.
As for the game breaking logic, to their credit:
Up to end of Detroit, all of this IS all one night, so perhaps not out of the realm of possibility that the tranq shots used will have a long term, multi-hour effect. Though I agree, how knocking them out "handles" the situation is lost to me.
I came across a dead cop or security guard with a Praxis kit beside him. I grabbed it, an EMP went off, and when my sight cleared there was a Purity First dude coming my way. I mowed him down and it was the hostage-taker guy who I let go free before. What's up with that? Is he just trying to randomly murder me or something?
Because he failed horribly. He didn't even get a shot off before catching a double-load of shotgun to the chest. I'd almost be sad if he had some speech prepared and I stopped him before he could get a monologue going.
If you let Zeke live from the beginning of the game, he'll be the one who busts through the door. Taggarts aid is Zeke's brother so he has ties to purity first, which explains why the random purity first guy popped out. Also it's a trap to try and kill you.
Edit: whoops didn't read your post close enough, you already knew who it was.

Yup. And there's only one point that it ever fails. And it's hilarious.
I'm getting tired of relentlessly checking bodies to see if I accidentally killed anyone with my tranq gun. I'm hoping it's just a glitch, as I know I've never fired anything lethal except in boss fights. I guess I'll find out at the end of the game.

I'm carousing through the soundtrack right now randomly. It all sounds very appropriate to their titles. Which are kinda spoilers in a sense.
1) I took out a thug with a takedown, then dragged him outside of his normal patrol area. To check and see if it was just dragging them around that killed them, I spent a minute dragging one of the thugs around and down some stairs (edit: a different dude from the area that I took the thug to).
2) I checked their statuses, and they were all still "ZZZ".
3) I saved my game, and reloaded and the one thug that I grabbed from another spot spawned as 'dead', while the others were still alive.
4) I took one of the thugs in that area, and dragged him into the location the other thug would normally spawn in.
5) I saved my game, and reloaded and that thug spawned as 'dead' when I reloaded.
So it has something to do with the zone the guys are in. If you drag them too far away from where they spawn, they'll appear as dead when you enter that zone again.
edit: I did not use the tranq gun on any of these people. I will try it again using it though.

apparantly, sometimes, a tranq gun to the head kills folk.

Do you have the Icarus yet. Make sure you have that.
I don't have it, but I don't think I've come across anywhere yet where I've felt like it would have been useful.
They tried to bury us. They didn't know that we were seeds. 2018 Midterms. Get your shit together.
You've just arrived in Heng Sha. The fluff of Heng Sha are news stories where people fall off of roofs and die.
That and Cassie.
Also Invisibility.

Does that stop the countermeasures?
Anyway, I don't think I've ever started a new playthrough immediately after finishing the first one in an fps before.

Took just long enough in China without it to find the LIMB clinic before I had it.
I explicity used takedowns though. So... I dunno. Knocking everybody out again just to see if it happens a second time.
Nah, you win when you take them.
With all the possible prizes to boot.
Really, if it is possible to hack the Red thing it's a great idea.

I think he means the big red box that starts the trace and it does stop the trace by ending the game with you gaining the contents of all datastores.
Okay. I tried the following:
1) I took out a thug with a takedown, then dragged him outside of his normal patrol area. To check and see if it was just dragging them around that killed them, I spent a minute dragging one of the thugs around and down some stairs (edit: a different dude from the area that I took the thug to).

5) I saved my game, and reloaded and that thug spawned as 'dead' when I reloaded.
So it has something to do with the zone the guys are in. If you drag them too far away from where they spawn, they'll appear as dead when you enter that zone again.
