This thread is dedicated to the awesome Comedy Central show Ugly Americans that airs Thursday nights after Futurama.

User-Annonnimus-Wiki.png

Ugly Americans is a show about just how tough it can be to fit into a new place. In this case New York City

It stars:
ugly_mark_r3.jpg
Mark Lilly.
The main character, Mark Lilly, is a goody two-shoes social worker who wants to be a therapist and generally make the world a better place. He works for the Department of Integration and is tasked with making sure that all of the countless immigrants that make their way to New York city feel welcome and find their place. His ambitions generally center around doing what's best for everyone involved and not hurting anyone's feelings. He tends to come off as kind of a huge douche. He's voiced by Matt Oberg.

ugly_grimes_r3.jpg
Frank Grimes.
Frank is the head of Immigration Enforcement and is not Mark's boss but acts like it more often than not. His job is to find and apprehend illegal immigrants and immigrants that violate the law. He tends to go above and beyond the call of duty when doing his job and has been reprimanded more than once for his aggressive behavior. Recently he adopted Justin Beiber as his son. He's voiced by Larry Murphy.

ugly_leonard_r3.jpg
Leonard Powers.
Leonard is Mark's partner in Social Work, the two of them sharing the same office and cases most of the time. Leonard's generally attitude of debauchery and irresponsibility are almost the polar opposite of Mark's, and more than once he's gone out of his way to place the blame on Mark when things go a little crazy at the office. He's also a six-hundred year old Wizard who once turned Mark into a woman by accident. He was briefly addicted to spray paint. He's voiced by Randy Pearlstein.

ugly_randall_r3.jpg
Randall Skeffington.
Randall is Mark's roommate, though it seems that he doesn't pay rent very often. He recently (just before the start of the series) got himself turned into a Zombie so that he could get more chicks. His role is to drive everybody nuts by doing whatever the hell he wants without any regard for the consequences. He will also sleep with anything that moves and most things that don't, that's one fo the perks of having a detachable penis. He has no moral code to speak of and will eat you if he damn well feels like it. Fortunately, he's pretty shiftless and lazy and would rather bang your mom to get back at you than go to the trouble of chasing you, catching you, and eating you. Despite being unemployed, He's a porn mogul. He's voiced by Kurt Metzger

ugly_callie_r3.jpg
Callie Maggotbone
Callie is a Succubus. She's also Mark's girlfriend and the half-daughter of the Devil. She shoots fire out of her boobs from time to time and kills people for fun. She's Mark's boss at the Department of Immigration and has tried to kill him at least once and probably several more times than that. All sources indicate that she's dynamite in the sack. She's voiced by Natasha Leggero.
Here's a clip of Callie and Mark raising Callie's younger sister who's also half-demon
ugly_twayne_r3.jpg
Twayne Boneraper
Twayne is a demon and Callie's boss. His end goal is stated to be bringing about the End of Days, but he seems like he's more interested in life as a professional flower arranger. He's a demon and is supposed to marry Callie and sire the Antichrist, but he's too scared of her, and sex, and pooping away from home, and guns, and blood, and dying, and pain. He misses his mommy most of the time, but he's worth a trillion dollars, so it's okay. He's voice by Michael Leon Wooley (The trumpet-playing Crocodile from The Princess and the Frog)

ugly_koalaman_v3.jpg
Doug
Doug the Koalaman is easily distracted, has no temper to speak of, and just wants to be left alone to eat leaves and live in peace. He usually needs a leash when they go on public outing because he tends to wander off. His good nature is emphasized by his large, open expression and his willingness to take anyone at their word. Other than Mark, He's the nicest, most trusting character in the show. Before coming to New York he was an assassin for hire called "The Murderbear".

Doug could be the greatest character ever created of any show. Ever.

    Grimes has the best lines.

Is it just me or have the last bunch of episodes not been as self-contained as the first season's episodes? It's not a bad thing for me because I'm a fan of the show but I can't deny that recently events are more random and jokes are rapid-fire. Someone just tuning in to the show would be hopelessly lost.

I haven't noticed that at all. Do you have an example?

I would say that during the first season the actual Immigration Office aspect mattered more and a lot of the stories started there. These more recent episodes (End of days, Facial cream, Soul exchange, etc.) occurred independent of that. Grimes was there just because it was funny, they were on a boat for no good reason, Twayne couldn't poop.

But to talk about the show being reasonable in season 1 when they had things like Treegasm and Man-birds seems a little generous.

I haven't given this show's second season a real shot, but I've seen some of Kurt's stand up. He's great. He's easily the highlight of this show for me.

Also, if you guys like Ugly Americans, there's a webcomic called Darwin Carmichael is Going to Hell that is in the same vein of UA and it's pretty damn funny. I use it as a filler between seasons and let a few issues build up.

I feel bad for Mark, he's so oblivious to the world around him. So far my favorite episode this season is the one where Leonard got wrapped up in the Harry Potter spoof.

Good show (although I thought the Zombie-Plant Facial Cream ep was actually pretty bad). Randall usually gets up to the best stuff.

Canada's Comedy Central is doing a good job of hosting all the episodes.
Is there a US broadcaster that's handling it?

I've loved this show. The episode featuring Doug's origin was the best one so far this season.

I've asked this before, but the only episode of Ugly Americans I've seen was the one where the ruler of hell has a competition to determine his successor or somesuch.

It was pretty much 22 straight minutes of not funny. Did I watch an off episode?

I love this show so much. Twayne is one of my favorites.

What I do hate is the 'volume' style of DVD releases. Ugh. Just do seasons. Whoever thought it was a good idea should be shot.

    I blame anime.

What's that, you say? Episodes 1 through 4 of Ranma are only $55 on DVD? AWESOME!

I love it when things are half-price.

Not a particularly memorable episode. Try "Kill Mark Kill" and if you don't find that funny then... I dunno... I guess I'll just have to hunt you down and extract your spine.

Was "Kill Mark Kill," the one with Mark's clone? That one was great.

Grimes: "Jesus Christ why am I still talking?!"

I didn't like the show at all when it first came on, I don't think I really gave it a chance. Then I happened to catch an episode where Mark was trying to get two trees to have sex. At that point, I was hooked.

Oh, I knew it was in Spanish. I just couldn't find an english version. If it had been in English it would be in the OP. But I think the visuals are awesome enough it doesn't matter.

I find this show really, really uneven. It's either great or bad and there is no in between. For that reason it's always worth checking out the first five minutes or so after Futurama and seeing which it is.

See, even in the worst episodes I can always find something worth laughing at. Even if it's just Doug doing something adorably creepy.

For a character who is just a likely to want to kill you as kiss you, and a "body" that is nothing but lines and digital ink, Callie is way too attractive.

    I'll be in my bunk...

That's one of the early episodes of that latest season.

It wasn't the best, but it also relies upon some knowledge of what has gone before.

This really is one of the best shows no one is watching. One of my favorites was the episode where the creature from the black lagoon is running for mayor and sold his soul to win the election. Despite doing everything in his power to utterly fuck up the deal because he thought he was a sure thing.

Also Doug and the Croation Man are my favorite background characters. Doug really is tops though.

The only bad part was that the best joke in the episode was the first one.

Also am I assuming right that

Only semi caught up on the second season, it feels a bit....different than the first season, why I can't put my finger on it. Different writers? Not sure. Still loving the show, definitely as one person said the best show no one is watching. Hell I'm amazed a second season happened.

One of the people on the show also does an awesome webcomic called Manly Guys doing Manly Things that has mucho manly men from various video games, oh and a pokemon obsessed side kick. http://thepunchlineismachismo.com/

It's written by a woman FYI.

    WTF is this?

Mark's first card was a Draw 4, you have to break suit before you can play a Draw 4.

That is not how UNO works!
