Ah ok. I feel like I need to read some 40k books, but there's so many. Where's a good place to start?

The Horus Heresy books. Horus Rising is the first one. It's the backbone for everything else that goes on in the universe. There are maybe one or two "meh" books in the bunch (personally I didn't like Flight of the Eisenstein or Mechanicum) but there are also some books in there that I'll reread because they're so well crafted. Legion and Prospero Burns really redefine the way people look at two of the Space Marine Chapters.

I think it's a great starting point for you because you won't have a lot of preconceived notions.

"My name is Hurtado Bronzi. That's all you're getting." ;)

"Sometimes things aren't complicated," I said. "You just have to be willing to accept the absolute corruption of everybody involved."

It must be strange to be in a relationship where your balls are so tightly bound that you have to pass all your purchases by your significant other.

Here's how my marriage works. I buy what I want. My wife buys what she wants. We both know what the other one buys and we both make sure to stay within budget. She doesn't care how much or how little I play or buy games in any given month. I mean, why would I be with someone who disliked or did not want me to continue something I enjoyed?

I know, the logic behind it is just... crazy...

I once saw a guy stop by the game case that was nearby while I was browsing dvds. His fairly obviously high-maintenance SO came by and bitchily asked "don't you have enough games?" I felt so bad for him :(.

    Rubbish.

For my warriors of chaos I took off every horn, spike and over the top giant weapon. I made halberds that are more akin to real life size. Kept the awesome large shields.

Honestly, they look even more menacing now than before.

My SO is perfectly happy to listen to me rave about how awesome the Thunder Hammer trailer was as long as I don't expect her to pay too much attention or actually play the game or anything like that. Much as I'm happy to listen to her talk about what she likes in her hobbies, without actually being interested in the details.

Within budget means maybe one game, considering buying new school stuff for three boys cuts into it heavily.

You should eat your kids and buy videogames with all the money you safe on groceries.

And I mean eating them in a completely non-sexual way. I'm not some kind of sexual deviant or nothin'.

Haha, fair enough. Every guy just likes to say that it's "the wife" not letting them get stuff when really it's because they have oodles of kids or something, hence no money to spend on more than a game once a month or two or so. Start blaming the children, it'll make it easier for me to understand.

So today I was playing and you know me I love me my stomp so I found me a big pack of yellow guys right. I activated fury and stomped the lot of em, the whole room, stunning all of them. Then I used the rest of the fury bullettime to cap each stunned motionless yellow guy in front of me in the head with the bolter.
God this game is going to be so good.

(For those who don't know, when in fury, aim with your gun to activate bullettime)

Screw Krieg, Catachan's only export is awesome guardsmen. How awesome? Half the population dies before it can walk. Those that survive that get to deal with a world where everything is hostile. The water can kill you, the bugs can kill you, the plants can kill you, hell absolutely everything is potentially lethal. Not just lethal in the sense of "oh that shit can kill you". Lethal in the sense that "Vines and lichen destroy anything you try and build, and the native fauna will gather in larger and larger numbers just to team up to murder you unless you go somewhere else. Why do people live there? Because they can. Imagine an entire planet of knife wielding Chuck Norri running around round house kicking anything that moves because if they don't it will likely eat them. If you dropped a naked space marine, and a naked Catachan Devil into the Jungle and had a competition to see who would live longer the Space Marine would likely be dead in a month and the Catachan would be offended that you tried to get him to leave.

How deadly is the wildlife on Catachan? Glad you asked
The Great Barking Toad (Catachanus bufo moribundus) of the Death World of Catachan is considered the most poisonous creature in the entire galaxy; fortunately, it is extremely rare. When threatened, it emits a cloud of toxins that kills all life within a kilometer, including the Barking Toad itself. The poison is so virulent it can penetrate even power armour.

Imagine a DeathStrike Missile only toad shaped. The mother fucking frogs are ap2. Catachan is a planet so fucked up a nid invasion would make the neighborhood safer. What does Krieg have? Oh we virus bombed it and now live in caves where we have to change filters periodically.

You know why no Space Marine chapters recruit from Catachan? Two reasons. First because Catachans would make a mockery of the "intense" training Space Marines go through, breezing through it like it was a walk in the park on a warm summers day. Second because Space Marine Power Armor does not have enough room to support the gigantic pair of balls you need to survive growing up on Catachan.

Rumour is it won't be coming out until a month after it's Realworld release (and that this will be the case for all THQ and Bethesda games) due to pressure from certain high street retailers. You can still pre-order it here and get Darksiders as the pre-order bonus. Don't even need to download it from there (although you can) as you get a code you can use to activate/register it on Steam.

    Chaos Space Marines.
Effectively a normal space marine on acid/steroids. Sometimes with added wurbely bits.

You forgot the part where the space marine gets tossed in the engine room of the Event Horizon and spends 10,000 years in hell worshiping dark gods.
    It's kind of their thing.

I saw other people had recommended the Heresy books. I can't speak for that, I haven't read them yet.
If you're looking for Imperial Guard, the Ciaphas Cain series and the Gaunt's Ghosts series are good reads as well as good places for newcomers to start. Both of the series have been collected into omnibuses, so you can save a few bucks and some shelf space.

Or just visit the Critical Failures forum and ask in the 40k thread there. You'll get lots of suggestions.

So, question. We know the game comes with a bunch of chapter skins and stuff. Do we know if it has a Deathwatch skin? Because I know of a few people that have Space Marine preordered that would love to be able to run around as Deathwatch.

It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.

Gaunts ghost is a really good one, anything Dan Abnett is pretty good 40k stuff.

Horus Heresy is pretty good, lots of info on how the Choas vs Imperium started which is pretty neat.... they have a lot of good fluff in there

You can make a Deathwatch skin. A mod for the demo already does it, so it's doable in the full version.

Would those work in multiplayer? Given that some of those mods didn't work and made his head invisible it seems to me like that sort of thing would get you banned pretty quick.

I think you could probably make a sort of Deathwatch marine from the creator using the fancy shoulderpads on one side. Probably be a DLC at some point though, but I could see it being easier to do if you can upload custom badges.

I doubt they work in Mplayer because they just replace textures of Titus model in game.

Im sure there will be DLC for us nerds

Basically in the chapter creator you get "pre-sets" which use the colour schemes of chapters (and I'm guessing Deathwatch will be one of them). The DLC chapters still use those, but make use of chapter specific tiems like helmets, symbols, pauldrons etc.

In multiplayer you all seem to have helmets anyway, cause of course you aren't awesome/high ranking enough to go helmetless.

Finally saw and paid attention to the TV commercial. Got it makes the game look cool.

My first impressions during the demo and decision to cancel my pre-order (due to feeling very "meh" on the single player sampler) are wavering. Odds are I'll end up picking this up once I see some solid reviews (Read: PA reviews) of multiplayer. Since that's what I'm most interested in.
