Electric stove problems

For some reason my stove won't go above ~150 degrees (if that) and has a very strange smell to it. As said, it's electric so it's not a gas leak of any sort.

Thoughts?

Maybe one of your heating elements burned out? Should look to see if there's a burned/dmaged spot on one of them somewhere.

the main thing is to turn on the oven and make sure both burners turn red (but if it's done preheating, one will turn off, so check before it's done preheating.)

This original post was from August 22. :-P I'm sure they have their problem, whatever it is, sorted out by now.
