Infernal Machine Lashed Together of Megabits and Flesh
So last night I was merrily typing along surfing the boards when a cataclysm occured. Blue Screen of Death with the words: Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I think at this point flashing red lights when off with bells and alarms along with that robot from Lost in Space, but that is besides the point. So I attempted in my non computer savvy way to alieviate the problem in a fruitless attempt to breathe life back into my little machine. Safe mode, ran some scans with spybot, adaware, registry mechanic and got nada. Doesn't look like a virus, just a hardware malfunction. And everytime I tried to reboot windows everything would load and then crash again
So this morning I shlepp on down to our local contigent of the nerds at the Geek squad ready to proudly present my lappy as an example of MS gone wild. I boot it up ready to pounce on the error message screen as it rears its despicable head when windows loads and....nothing. FUCKING NOTHING. So I can't prove anything is wrong without shelling out 100 bucks for a diagnostic. Fuckers couldn't even tell me what the error meant.
So I turn to you noble people of SE. You who have experience and knowledge in the dark and arcane arts of computing. What the fuck is this DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL bullshit and how do I fix it? I could go to H/A for this but they are about as dense as a bag of wet cement.
tl;dr - My PC is fucked hella's over, help me SE you're my only hope, how i shot pc?
Dudes, if you Google that error, it will tell you lots and lots of stuff about it.
It's a very common error. It means one of your drivers tried to access an illegal memory location (ie, it done fucked up).
If it only happened once, just reboot your f'in computer. :roll:
If it keeps happening, note the driver mentioned and try to update/replace or last resort, uninstall/disable it.
Oh nevermind I just read that you can't even boot the computer, my bad.
You're probably in for a full system re-install if you can't even boot it.
You can try doing a "repair" install though, if it will let you.

Seconded.
I have seen this one a few times before though as a precursor to CPU death. Be forewarned.
This can also be a sign of your RAM failing. Obtain a copy of Memtest x86 or run the Dell diagnostics to find out.
Also, you should right-click "My Computer" and select manage. From there select Event Viewer and read the Application and System event logs. Check for any Red X or Yellow warning signs. Warnings don't have to be bad, but the Red X ones are. And usually in the System log any red X will point you to your offending hardware.
also you need to update your BIOS. You're running A03, and I believe the latest revision for your machine is A08. Do update that.
edit again - current update is A09.

grab it and run it. if you find any errors at all while running the extended test that you have ram that's going. If it's out of warranty, the newegg prices on ram are pretty cheap.
you can check http://www.kingston.com/ for the type of ram for your particular laptop, and I'd recommend kingston ram to go with it.
Edit. based on your service tag you posted your warranty was up last year.
Edit2: i'd also recommend going to 1GB of ram if you need to replace it.
In all my years I have never seen a Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL that required a reinstall or system restore. Full chkdsk after replacing faulty hardware, yes.
But never a reinstall.
DCOM I'm not really worried about at the moment. Most DCOM issues are stupid and worthless. What error is the SCM pulling? Doubleclick for a summary. Most all of them are going to be the same.
I'm not having any major system problems but thought I'd post this for those of you that want a good laugh.

Did you fuck your DVD Drive? I did this once and lets just say my computer isn't as accustom to semen as the porn star I was watching is.
If you didn't do this then try fucking your computer. Sometimes all it needs is a little love. And plus, semen is an ancient healing oitment. Try it sometime.

no you cannot have a sig that size. especially with compression that crappy.
Yup, nic card. Unfortunately that 6000 could have been packed with one of 10 or so different nics. Find out which one and download the newest driver available from Dell.com. Here also you can get your BIOS update. Always best to try free solutions before spending the money on a new NIC card (which is actually fairly easy to replace on your lappy)
I still won't fully discount a RAM issue, either. Best to still run memtest and be sure.
You update your BIOS by downloading the newest one from Dell.com. I'm pretty sure it is a simple update on yours requiring only a restart. No inserting floppys or making bootable CDs.
You have a dell right? Go to support.dell.com and look up downlaods for your model of laptop, there will be an autorunning FlashBIOS update for your model that you can run from in windows

also, just a thought. You say this is a laptop - how is it set up? Are you just setting it on your bed, or is it sitting on a desk, or what?
Usually on my bed.
k, it may be a heat issue that started this mess. On a bed doesn't really allow for air circulation underneath and around the computer. Get a piece of wood you can set it on, preferably with a small riser, to allow air to get around it.
To update your bios, go here and follow the instructions.
Either a piece of wood or one of those handy dandy laptop cooler stands that you can get from CompUSA or the like. They're actually not too shabby. And thanks Rank for giving him a link to follow!

go get CPU-Z, run a report and post it here.

Like a physically damaged hardware component, rather than a driver issue.

[edit]oh wait no it's not
oh knock it off.
Otaku, go get memtest and run it for as long as it takes. Watch for errors, and let us know if and when you get them.
edit: before you do that, though, do as RedImpulse said and update your bios. That alone might solve the problem.
If you replace your HRIET card with a newer model you shouldn't have any more problems.
Well, sweets for the sweet, I guess.
your = belonging to you
their = belonging to them
there = not here
they're = they are
You know they have P4s now?
Also, machines that can fly.
SCM seemed to be having a field day:

EDIT: Update BIOS? k.
also, just a thought. You say this is a laptop - how is it set up? Are you just setting it on your bed, or is it sitting on a desk, or what?
If you didn't do this then try fucking your computer. Sometimes all it needs is a little love. And plus, semen is an ancient healing oitment. Try it sometime.
Usually on my bed.
Go to support.dell.com and look up downlaods for your model of laptop, there will be an autorunning FlashBIOS update for your model that you can run from in windows
k, it may be a heat issue that started this mess. On a bed doesn't really allow for air circulation underneath and around the computer. Get a piece of wood you can set it on, preferably with a small riser, to allow air to get around it.
To update your bios, go here and follow the instructions.
