I ought to clock up the cpu on this beast one of these days. It's definitely the bottleneck.
If it's heat, it could be as simple as the crappy heatsinks that Dell has been known to use.
It was an issue on the Inspiron 600M units, which aren't far from your 6000. Basically in order to keep them running well, you had to open up and clean out the heatsinks once monthly.
