    Generally, I agree.

The only thing that seems out-of-place and a bit on the evil side (even for a game testing job) is the security presence. On the first day you don't assume someone is an evil, two-faced mole placed within your organization by a malevolent competitor seeking to undermine and sabotage the very lifeblood of your industry and decimate all that is good and wholesome.

You quietly take them aside and inform them they're not going to be working there anymore. Then you make them pack up their shit and vacate the premises. Guards are always a little much unless there's a serious concern that the person will break or steal something on the way out.

If the company is large enough ($) to have security guards at all, they are truly serious about protecting their IP because they know it is the life blood of the company. As a developer, nearly every company I've worked for has had security guards, badges we MUST wear at all times, NDA's, and now I have a security clearance. Sure it sucks to be fired over a "game" but a slip by someone could cost the company a lot of money.

As far as being escorted from the premesis by security guards, it was completely necessary because, again, they are protecting their IP. Telling someone with access to your network and IP that they are fired and then excusing them politely is just inviting retaliation. If the manager had done any less and she had stolen or sabotaged anything on her way out, then it would have been his ass being escorted from the building the next day.

This is a sad story, but it's a cautionary tale as well.
