So, playing ME2 for the first time, and this has probably been asked a million times before, but I've avoided this thread for fear of spoilers, so;
What DLC should I buy? When should I buy it? Where does it fit into the story when I do buy it? Right now I've recruited Mordin, Jack, and Garrus, and I'm currently doing the Krogan mission. Thoughts?
Shadow Broker is the best DLC, but Kasumi is pretty good, and you get a squad member out of it as well.
Overlord is next, and Arrival probably comes in last.
Do you have the Cerberus network stuff? If you're buying it it's fairly heavy-priced, but Zaeed is a decent add to the team.
The weapon and armour DLC is nice, but a long way from essential.
Having just played Shadow Broker for the first time, I strongly recommend it. Best mission in the game by a long shot, in my opinion, and has a very satisfying resolution. I enjoyed Kasumi a lot, but if you don't plan on using her in your team, the DLC is obviously less essential, though getting Flashbang on Shepard is awesome.

Lair of the Shadow Broker without question. It can be played at any point, its more or less the same no matter what (with a few bits of dialogue different depending).
But seriously get it.
Now.
Just one correction. LotSB can't be played until after Horizon. But you can't meet Liara until then anyway so it makes sense.

play Kasumi and overlord before the main quest is finished and leave Lair and Arrival for after is how I'd do it.
Shadow Broker and Kasumi are the top recommendations. Shadow Broker is probably the best DLC since the invention of DLC, and new squadmate Kasumi is awesome, plus her mission is interesting and she brings the best SMG in the game to the table. After that, Overlord and Arrival if you're still looking for more. I enjoyed them all but I found the first two dramatically better than the latter. If you do get Arrival, make sure to do it after beating the game, since it's cooler and makes more sense that way. Recruit Kasumi ASAP, and may as well do her mission at once if you use SMGs. Shadow Broker can be done whenever after meeting Liara; I prefer the post-game dialogue changes, but if you do it earlier you can get resources whenever you visit an added location, restocking after two missions or so. Overlord can be done whenever, it's its own thing.

I can't really add anything to SoundsPlush's comments, so I'll just say that he is exactly correct.

A properly spec'ed Vanguard will be able to charge A LOT. And with his new power that synergizes with charge, the class is awesome.

Charging lots? I know which class I'll be playing as my first run, rather than my traditional winfiltrator.

Thanks for the tips, will buy Kasumi and Overlord when I get home, seeing as I haven't found Liara yet. Will buy Shadow Broker when I do, then Arrival a bit later on. Sound about right?
Oh, and one more thing, I'm playing Infiltrator and having a bit of trouble wrapping my head around it; right now I mostly just snipe dudes. What's the most effective way to use the cloak? Seems kinda useless.
So I lost my ME2 save (due to a reformat and not saving my Steam stuff right), so I'm grabbing all the DLC again and going to do a run through. Interested in this "Genesis" thing I just bought.

To be honest, I've played the Infiltrator three times, I think, and I still find it kind of useless. It's an escape button if you catch yourself under fire, and easy way to reposition without making yourself vulnerable, and another to really front-load your damage on a Widow shot. The longish cooldown and frozen health and shield regen make it not so great at guerrilla tactics.
A while ago I surmised that it'd be a lot better if you could turn it on and off freely until you've used up the entire duration before triggering the cooldown. As it is, it's only good for getting to a place or getting away from a place, but not both.

Honestly, I kind of hope in ME3 that there is an ability to upgrade cloak so that it doesn't instantly disperse after one action.
Cloaking as a sniper is boring, because you're just hiding behind cover and using it as a damage boost and soldiers are still better at it even if you spec for it. Cloaking with the SMG to get behind enemy lines and shooting them in the back so they scramble for new cover while exposed in a a vicious crossfire, on the other hand, is awesome.
For the guy that was trying to get his ME1 downloadable content (BDtS free with the PC), I had to go to the EA support online chat and get a code from them to get it to work. It was rather quick and painless, and was an interesting mission so probably worth the hassle.
I thought Pinnacle Station was ok. It was interesting to run each of the missions once, but after that they were a bit repetetive. The major problem is you need to download Origin (i think - at least I did) to install it. The biggest advantage is the equipment you can get from it. Overall I'd say probably not worth the money.

This is correct. If you just want to snipe, Soldiers are empirically superior to Infiltrators. Infiltrators are best at, well, infiltrating enemy lines and killing them from behind.

Is there anywhere I can buy a package deal on ME2 and get all the DLC in one go? The Digital Deluxe edition on Steam, is that it?
I own ME2 as a physical copy but I want to give that to one of my colleagues and get a digital version plus the DLC that I never got around to getting. Anywhere?
On another note, I am replaying another great Bioware title, Neverwinter Nights 1, and am realising just how much of a sucker I am for Bioware romances.

let's hope they dump the stupid thing about shields stopping biotic powers in ME3
No, the digital deluxe edition doesn't include the DLC and isn't really worth bothering with. Sadly there is no ultimate edition or indication of a future one yet, and the DLC almost never goes on sale on PC.
You know, I've beaten ME1 three times, and I anticipate more in the future, but there are some decisions I can just never bring myself to make. Like killing the rachni - it's bound to be more interesting to have them on my side in 3 than to have them dead. Anyone else have that problem?
Ohh, you guys are going to be so mad when your physical copy precludes a digital litho! Stuck with your "physical, can hold it in my hands and admire it" version, weeping.
yeah i'm not getting the digital deluxe version of ME3 this time, not after how lame the DD version of ME2 was
Ugh, I remain annoyed about the ME2 digital deluxe edition to this day. The real salt in the wound was including a "soundtrack" that only had like 12 songs on it, and then glancing at itunes showed that there were actually a good 30 or so on the official soundtrack. And the digital one was missing most or all of the best ones. So I paid extra for DD just to pay even more to buy the fucking soundtrack again. Oh, and the videos that were like 10 minutes long (though Seth Green joking about wanting to record in the booth with Tricia Helfer was funny).
All the DD version had going for it was the DLC, which probably would've been just as costly or cheaper to buy seperately.
But yeah, I've already got my physical CE pre-ordered on Amazon.
