taky, please tell me that the turian councilor will get his comeuppance. Assuming he's alive, of course.

I want more Chakwas yelling in the Collector Ship at my character for doing stupid things. It's nice when a game is compelling enough where I feel mortified by my choice. It also makes the bits where you get to shove it people's faces better. Like the future TIM and Citadel Council ones, I imagine.

I hope the Turian Councilor never gets his comeuppance just to piss people off.

ME1 doesn't count because that was obviously advanced Geth technology and not a Reaper.

I can just imagine the scene in ME3 where Shepard walks in on the TC with Shepard's ME1/2 love interest.

"Your squeeze..." *TC takes a puff of his cigarette* "...we have dismissed those claims."

Then Shepard's forced to watch in an unskippable cutscene.

Tal, I can't wait until you're forced to a put a bullet between the eyes of your hero, TIM.

It's going to be like that scene in MGS3 where Snake's mentor Boss is lying there beaten and broken, her face clearly on the screen looking at you with sympathetic eyes and the game doesn't advance until you pull the trigger. Except, in this case, you're going to be the only one who hesitates.

Alright, this has been going on forever, and I kinda want to know.

What is with your obsession with characters "Putting Shepard in her place" and the game "pissing people off"?

I mean, some level, I get. You want some limits on player influence, so it's not just a power fantasy.

But you're really going above and beyond here. And it's kinda getting weird.

    Huh...

    Oh...I just like trolling people.

I mean you have all these people who are constantly talking about how Shepard eats bullets and shits lightning. Isn't it fun to have someone who doesn't?

Do you really think I take any of this seriously?

    Pssshaw.

Besides, if you think that's weird, you haven't been paying much attention to the ME thread.

RPGs should in fact actively torture their players. See Demon's Souls.

See, there's a reason I play RPGs and not roguelikes.

I don't actually enjoy being sodomized without lube, which is why I don't enjoy ADOM.

I wouldn't even say that it is that the game is hard that makes Demon Souls unappealing(to me).

I would say that it is moreso because the game is a dungeon crawler with minimal story. Outside of the Elder Scrolls games I can't play RPGs that focus more on the gameplay than the characters/world these days. And even TES games tend to have world building to them because their gameplay is pretty trash.

I was just thinking to myself the other day that since playing Final Fantasy XIII, I haven't wanted to touch another JRPG since. I've just lost all interest in them after how grueling painful the first 20 hours or so that game actually is. I just don't have the patience to play a game anymore unless it's appealing from the start.

I'm a sucker for games with lots of obscure lore but not much main story, because it lets your imagination run wild.

One thing I have to start doing more in TES games is actually reading the books. They have a lot of nice stories to them.

  • -Tal-Tal Registered User regular
It is downright criminal how detailed TES' backstory is but how poorly-written its actual story is. All the cool stuff is left to rot in books.

I think the reason they make the main story in TES games so shitty is because they know more than half the people playing the game will never get to it.

Heck...I still haven't closed shut the gates of Oblivion and by my day counter I think a year or so has passed.

Everyone is talking about how a Vanguard will do a heavy melee. We already know, deep down in our hearts. Shepard will biotic charge a few steps forward, grabbing them by the head/neck as she does so, and then will slam their head into the ground as their body is yanked off it's feet.

Then Shepard will rise from the crouch, and the other enemies will try to run.

I want to biotic charge and skewer people into walls with the omni-blade.

I want Vanguard to have half a dozen buttons devoted to different ways to charge.

    Most of them incredibly lethal.

I want Vanguard charge to work with the Kinect. You have to run around in circles to build power then run into your tv to actually charge

Demon's Souls is all about the world building! It doesn't have pages and pages of Codex entries like Mass Effect, but every item has a story and everybody you meet in that game sheds light on how things came to be. It's a wonderfully crafted, understated environment to roleplay in.

You mean that time you cemented his reputation, immortalising him through his heroic sacrifice during the geth incursion?

  • -Tal-Tal Registered User regular
Sacrifice? He tried to run away and couldn't even do that right. He should have holed up in the Council Chambers and fired at Saren to his dying breath.

It's all about spin. The Council are martyrs and symbolize the threat that the Geth pose to all sentient life. In death their faults are forgotten, and their lives given a galvanized sheen of nobility. Never forget.
