are there seriously people out there buying these things and expecting to use them for over-the-air broadcasts

i think you're discussing a pretty small minority, there

I honestly rarely ever use my TV for Over-air broadcasts, but I would have expected it to be able to do it had I purchased one. So I am kind of glad the point was made, because I've had these in the back of my head as a cheap alternative to a 3D TV.

Edit: to clarify, it never entered my mind that it wouldn't do over-air broadcasts.

Well, I've always said that when I have my own place I'm paying only for an internet connection in regards to entertainment services. Between OTA television, Hulu, and Netflix, I can't imagine ever running out of things to watch.

I didn't even realize that was released. It was at E3 2010, right? Then it was a no-show at E3 2011...I figured it was vaporware at this point.

It released about a month ago at $40. It didn't review well.

I've heard mostly positive things about Sorcery. It seems to be a fun game, bogged down a bit by Move.

Maybe I just have unusually high standards. It should have been Sony's showcase for Move, a lesson on how to do Move implementation right.

If it was "bogged down" by Move, I would consider it a failure.

And Sony STILL doesn't have a killer Move game.

shooting games are awkward with kinect, but i played some of the new SOCOM with the move controls and not only was it confusing and hard to aim, i also got tired extremely quickly (more so than jumping around playing kinect)

maybe it's my weak baby arms but it seems like a lot of effort to just shoot a dude

Are the light-gun type games for Move any good? I'd love to try some of those out but may be misremembering it having more titles in that genre than it actually does. House of the Dead? Time Crisis?

  • cloudeaglecloudeagle Registered User regular
House of the Dead: Overkill is pretty damn spiffy, especially if you're amused by the concept of a black guy named Isaac Washington calling everyone within a half-mile radius "motherfucker." Because I certainly am.

Just get used to using the "quick calibrate" function a lot if you are particular about the cursor being exactly where you are pointing.

ive got real low expectations for move games, so i figure $20 is a good price to pay for what is supposed to be the best move game around (however faint of a compliment that may be). i got my move stuff all ridiculously cheap anyway, for the sole purpose of playing some light gun games with it.

Just an FYI RE: Amazon Sale, the codes for Victoria II and Sword of the Stars complete pack that Amazon sells are not Steam redeemable, having bought it when it was previously on sale. Upon contacting Paradox they confirmed that the version of those games that Amazon sells cannot be used in Steam.

    Johannes, Jun 05 11:45 (CEST):

    Hello Donnicton,

The Plentiful Paradox Package on Amazon contains both games that can be activated on Steam and some that don't have that feature. Victoria 2 and Sword of the Stars Complete both lack the functionality to activate on Steam if bought on Amazon since they sell the non-Steam version of the game. I'm sorry but you will not be able to activate those games on Steam.

    Kind Regards,
    Johannes

Some games will(Crusader Kings II), but others won't but still will. You'll have to either be told by someone who already has or via trial and error.

The Amazon rep said on CAG that the Paradox games will all be Steam activated. And everyone who bought the previous pack will get Steam codes.

"I just got sign off from Paradox to re-issue Steam Keys via email for Victoria II and Sword of the Stars Complete Collection to everyone who purchased the original Plentiful Paradox Package.

We'll likely deliver these via email, since it is a Friday though it probably won't happen until early next week. I'm hoping to have emails out before the holiday though (4th of July).

    Cheers,
    Tony"

I would say primarily organizational. You can add non-steam games to Steam, though. I have all my Origin/Blizzard/Steam games loaded into Steam so I have a one-stop location for all of my games.

You'd be surprised by how many people base their buying decisions on whether it's Steam activated or not. And there are actually quite a few people who hate Steam ("it's DRM/spyware/bloatware!").

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning on sale today at Gamersgate.

    $36 for the base game
$6 each for the DLC packs
$28 for base game + DLC packs

I realize that makes no sense, but there it is.

Gamersgate apparently does not have the Weapon/Armor pack that Steam has.

$8 cheaper for the base game + DLC than just the base game?

The game and DLC alone are 40% off; the collection is %60.

Still makes no sense, but [insert joke about 38 Studios financial straits here].

Steamable? If it is, you can just redeem it on Steam, then grab the missing DLC.

Doesn't look like it. but "EA Access" (Origin, I presume) is required. Also, Origin has that pack, so it might be available that way.

Not steamable, and yes requres Origin.

Don't worry about the weapon/armor pack, it is completely worthless. Seriously. You'll find better gear in the first hour outside of the tutorial. It looks cool; and that's about it.

But yeah, $28 is a great price; I'd heartily recommend the game to anyone who enjoys action/rpg's.

Well then, the question becomes...$28 now or roll the dice on Steam having it lower?

I think the most Steam could beat it by would be $3.

Man I don't trust buying games on anything but Steam and Amazon and I was proved right again to trust my instincts. Tried Gamersgate for the first time for Reckoning and I am throughly confused. Added to cart, created a account and then got a receipt in my email. Where do I put in payment info? Where is the game code?

I would be surprised if steam beats it; with both DLC's. The "complete" package on steam is $80 right now. It'd have to be what, 66% or so off to match the current price...so...its a wash. I guess it could got 75% and go to $20, but I don't think "ea" published games ever go that low on steam sales.

I got the boxed copy so I can't say if the steam version requires origin too; but the boxed one and digital downloads elsewhere did.

EDIT: The steam "complete" one has the weapon/armor kit too though, so if someone actually cares about that, it might factor in.

Gamersgate is the only other place I buy from other than Steam; I have no issues with them.

When you're in the middle of a transaction, if you haven't actually paid yet, they will send you an email about it. All payment and game downloads happen on their website. Go back to the website, in the upper left you'll see "Cart" Click it, and you'll be taken to the payment page! Do the normal stuff. Afterwards the game appears in the "Games" section of "My Shelf" on the left side of the screen as you're logged in.

If Gamersgate could get away with doing a 60% off sale, there's a good chance Steam will finagle a nice price cut. The problem here though is since Steam sells it(the full collection) for more than Gamersgate, the only way you'd save money by comparison is if the Steam sale dipped to 75%. Which could happen - even though it's a fairly big budget title and is pretty recent, the fact that 38 Studios is belly up could make it more likely than it would be otherwise.

Gamersgate sells the collection for 60% off of $70($28). Steam sells the collection for $80, the absolute best you could expect is 75% off of $80, for about $20. The only difference between the two is the weapon/armor pack that isn't really any good.

Do you find yourself frightened by unfamiliar things? Don't worry, it happens to all of us as we get older. O_o
