Slalom. Only int hat challenge do they want you to touch the flags.
The trick is to make an even wave so that the flags are near the peaks of your turns: Whne you hit a flag you should already be turning to get another one.
So, got this game Saturday and it absolutely rocks. Just moved on to Peak 2 and it's nice to see a shift in the course design between different peaks.
The controls really do feel perfect. I felt kinda dumb when I realized you can do any uber trick, not just the one it showed on the bottom on the screen when you jump.
One thing this game suffers from is you-better-have-an-HDTV-to-read-our-text-itis. Luckily I will be receiving the cure for this awfult ailment soon.
Controls took a bit to get used, but once I did, it's pretty money. I almost did an Uber once. Things went red, and it went slow and my toon hit an overhead gaurd rail. :'-(
Well I rented the game and played for a few days. Unlike a lot of people, I have practically no problems with the controls. In fact I love them. I got the hang of the uber tricks pretty fast after going in the uber practice screen. I still fail them once in a while, but I don't feel it's the controller not properly detecting the motions. When I fail it's usually when I don't perform the motion the way I learned to pull them off flawlessly.
My only gripe with the controls is sometimes when I shake the controllers to recover from a wipeout the game will detect my motions when I respawn and I will wipeout a second time in a row because my character started flipping again.
Even tho I love the controls I'm glad I didn't buy the game. I reached peak 3 and can safely say that the game is definitely lacking in content. Most of the tracks seem to be a copy from SSX3, and there really isn't enough tracks in the game. They instead chose to increase the lenght of the game with tournaments which is basicly just repeating the same tracks you already played.
Trick based levels are also too easy, especially slopestyles. You can usually get first place with a 1 or 2 ubertricks in the whole track. For the rest of the track all you have to do is spin and grab whenever you jump.
The progressive music system is really fun, but there's too few tracks. I always end up hearing the same tracks all the time. I also hate the fact that you can't customize your character like you did in 3, hate the character design, and hate the fact that characters don't talk.
I won't buy this game, but I'm really looking forward to the next SSX on Wii, hopefully with the same controls, more tracks, customizable characters, and more music.
I'm now pretty annoyed. I worked for hours on my Slalom to get the gold on the mountain, and NOW I find I have to get it in a TOURNAMENT?!? The same stupid impossible course! Needless to say, I can't do it. I put some points into Mac's speed and I can't handle him like I could earlier on it.
i dislike the mountain system and the menus. if i don't have to point at the screen when i am playing the game, do NOT REQUIRE that i point to make selections.
which is a shame cause the controls work pretty darn well for me.

The Edge stat covers handling, how well you can control. Speed is the opposite. If you have a board that changes stats, pick one that increases Edge. And if you haven't already go to options and press 1 on the wiimote, you can tweak whether the game relies solely on the nunchuck or the control stick. Slalom is much easier using the control stick.
Weird how everyone is havin a different problem. Overall, I like the controls, but completely suck ass at grabs. Left and down seem to do the same thing, and half the time my guy just kind of stands there looking retarded when I try. Oh well.

I saw this game in the store today 50% off and I just couldn`t resist (I was planing to buy the game at release, but the medicore feedback held me back then). So far, I have enormous struggles with the controls - I have no clue how to do tricks or how to land properly, and I couldn't pull off a single Ubertrick no matter what I tried. Curving and grabbing works perfectly fine though, and I have lots of fun with the racing-style challenges

To do tricks, just flick the Wii Remote in different directions. To land, tap the A button before you touch down and your character will right themselves. For ubertricks, rather than draw the trick on screen with the IR pointer, move the whole remote in that shape. In other words, hold the remote horizontally, then move the entirety of the remote through the shape in the air, keeping it horizontal the whole time.
The tutorials are really helpful, so if you haven't checked those out, you should. This is one of my favorite games on the Wii, and it was nice to see the thread pop back up again!

Yeah the Uber tricks are difficult to pull off. But I like it that way. The tricks are worth a lot of points and you gotta earn those points. No longer is it a simple matter of press these 2 buttons at the same time and get a bajillion points lol!

Great, I definitely have to check this out thanks!
Actaully, I played two times through the tutorials 2, but I still don't get it :P
I did a contest with my brothers today on who can do the first ubertrick, and we haven't yet decided a winner. The problem seems to be that the character already starts spinning around in the air before we can even beginn drawing lines, thus making complety different moves. Maybe if we could just hold both the Nunchuk and the Remote still ...
Yeah, about the other thing, I noticed that if you flip around with the Wii Remote like crazy you can do all sorts of different moves, but I really just don't have any idea of what I'm actually doing there, and more often than not this results in a spectacular accident - I still need some practice here me guesses
All in all, I think I like this game, although it has been extremely frustrating so far. I also suck at most fun sport games, so maybe that's another reason why I just can't get it right
You can still do a Ubertrick motion while your character is spinning. In fact you gotta do it to maximize you points: Jump and start spinning then press the Ubertrick button, do the motion.
Wait, where is this 50% off at? I was wanting the game but couldn't afford it when it came out. I still cant afford it but I have money and wand to buy it anyways...

Heh, I saw it selling for €30 in several stores here in Austria, which I consider a good price for a game that was released merely 4 months ago in Europe. But I encourage you to look elsewhere, there sure are a lot of places where you can get it even cheaper
