So the BC2 beta allowed 2 weapon unlocks and basic gadgets for each class... I'm wondering if BF3 is going to follow suit.
Some interesting info is that apparently snipers cannot hold their breath to steady shots while being suppressed. I'm not sure why they feel the need to make recons even worse, but by all means, go ahead.

So they can't pick off the Support who's keeping them down. That can be done by someone else, but being able to shoot the guy drowning your position in lead is dumb. No-one sticks their head out in the middle of a shitfest like that.
Late to the party here, but the effects in that Guillotine trailer - particularly that first explosion - are unparalleled. I really, really hope there's at least one night map in the multiplayer, because goddamn.
Regarding the various new tidbits.... Transport pilots getting rewarded is fantastic news, really dig that.
I was iffy on first mentions of spawn beacons, but squad spawning in via parachute totally redeems that through general awesomeness.
Firing stingers from passenger seats? Ha, ok... I'm picturing madcap misadventures as an attack chopper tails your shitty jeep, trying to hold a lock on it as the driver thrashes over all manner of shitty terrain.
And yeah, a sniper not being able to concentrate, hold their breath and steady for a precision shot while all manner of shit rains around them seems pretty fair to me.
Huh, looks like destruction will be severely toned down in the console versions. A guy over at SA posted this to show just how much of the building gets easily destroyed on the PC

I really wish I could watch that trailer right now. Curse my damned work filters!
I saw a kid get handed a JB poster by who I presume was his parents outside my store today....he tore it in half infront of his horrified parents.....There's hope for our youth yet!

I love how in most trailers, there's some poor schmuck getting knifed in the throat - and its holiness is noted by cutting out the soundtrack so we get the full effect.

That's why you have to rip his dogtags from his neck.
To remember the poor fellow's heroic sacrifices after he has departed from this Earth while serving in the line of duty.
In Modern Warfare 3 you kill 8 mans and call in an airstrike.
In Battlefield 3 you ARE the airstrike (jumps out of plane, stabs man in the neck on landing).
AKA: gottabegaming, gotta, gottabeajerk, and Mr. Wave's Point/Click Adventure.
NO ONE EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!Oh bugger.

I'm going to be switching between BF3 and MW3 and PC and 360 like no man's business. I'm going to get to hate and despise two completely different games, two completely different machines and two completely different communities at the same time!
Xbox Live - Minty D Vision Steam - Minty D. Vision! Origin/BF3 - MintyDVision
I've seen wookies in BC2 hop out of Blackhawks and then spam C4 all over before detonating in mid-air. They usually end up dead one way or another and get no kills at all but it's pretty fun to see
In Battlefield 3 you can airstrike with a knife (jumps out of plane, stabs man in the neck on landing).
Those tanks won't know what hit them.
I can see it now. C4 bombing runs. Spawn on a jet just as it's over a tank. Toss c4 down ahead of you, pop it, and land into a knife kill.
Way back when BF2 was launched, I remember going around in the MEC's Flying Cow Chopper with some PA folk while dropping AT mines out the back onto tanks.

Still playing BC2 on my crappy satellite net. Very slowly working my way toward platinums with every gun still I may yet consider playing BF3 online if the netcode copes even better than BC2!

For those in the alpha (particularly you, Scat), how did the lethality of the weapons perform? What I mean is: in a game like CoD, one or two bursts dropped an enemy; in BC2, sometimes it takes an entire clip to drop a player (and always felt like 2 shots to drop me).

The Alpha had weapons about as lethal as in Black Ops, but with more recoil and muzzle flash. You could take someone down in one burst at close range with the M16, if you could get one of them to be a headshot.
The addition of semi-automatic fire makes it that much easier to take someone out at long range. The engineer's G36c set to two-round burst was fucking brutal out to quite a ways away.
They've supposedly tuned it down for the Beta, but we'll find out.

Good to know. I hope it drops this week, really interested in trying it out. I liked BC2 but going back and forth between BC2 and MW2/Blops really was difficult to adjust to.

My adjustment for BC2 is "Treat every gun like you're using a silenced Skorpion. When you run out of ammo after killing one person, three shot everyone else with your 1911."
Did any of y'all get to use a battle rifle yet? I want to play a middle-distance recon, but missed the alpha and won't have a gaming PC 'til November at the earliest.
I'm excited as hell, to get my hands on some Battlefield 3 (one word: "Jets"), but there's a little voice in me I won't ignore that desperately hopes you can play as insurgents... for Karma's sake.

Assault got the G3, which is a battle rifle. It was really fucking good and, more importantly, felt extremely beefy.
I'm not sure if Recons just get the M14 or what the deal is on that. They only got the all-kits and their snipers in the Alpha. But they also had no gadgets or anything useful. The only reason you were a Recon in the alpha was because you really loved sniper rifles.
The poll taken of "What's your favorite BF3 Alpha class?" coming up with Supports and Recons both showing as 16% worries me. That a class integral to keeping people on the front lines with ammo was played as often as a class that is useless just fucking boggles my mind. But whenever you got revived in the Alpha, it refilled all of your ammo, so that may be why.
BUT NOBODY USED THEIR GODDAMN PADDLES SO THAT DOESN'T MATTER EITHER.

Thanks! That's exciting to hear about the G3. Yeah, the classic complaint is that most recons don't play the right way, i.e., they camp a lot and don't help the front lines press forward. For the sake of fairness, in a recon kit that includes only a sniper rifle and pistol, it can be hard to do that, which is why the battle rifles sound like a great option.
Only 16%? In general when I join a pub battlefield server (any battlefield) I assume that a quarter of players on each side will be on some hill playing out their teenage sniper fantasy. Sometimes I'll die to one of them, but most of the time they're preoccupied with each other. This has been true since bf1942 where sniping was extremely hard, yet it didn't stop countless people from trying and taking up the bottom spots on the score boards.
This is why developers should never lock down player numbers, you must account for dead weight in pub games.
Keep in mind that about 60% of the map in the Alpha was a subway tunnel, which cut down on snipers quite a bit compared to what we'll probably see on the wide open maps.

Plus those fuckers sound weird (the V-22, not the Blackhawk).

But the 1911 is 7+1.
Not in the Alpha it wasn't. There are all kinds of different magazines for it, anyways.
Ewww
Loved the 1911 and tompson in BC2
You and me both brother. I built almost a whole new rig recently. I am chomping a the bit to get my hands on the beta.
Thats not bad at all considering most other FPS on the 360 don't hit 720p at all.
Well it's technically 702p, they're just cutting a few lines off the top and bottom so they can maintain performance at 30 fps with AA.
So they can't easily snipe the support class that's firing at them, obviously
