Come to think of it, this is the only metroid LP on the forums, isn't it?

I think there was a thread with a collection of LPs for the Metroid series, not unlike Legend of Zelda, but I'm not sure how much of it was completed. So yeah, currently this is the only Metroid LP on the forum. Not shabby so far either. Can't wait for someone to shoe-horn in other LPs from the series! <.<
Edit - I'm currently just now starting to watch a TAS run of Metroid Fusion that completes the game with 0% item collection. I'll link it if it's got really, really zany shit going on. I know people hate TAS videos because "waah you can't actually do that stuff" but I like the deconstruction of a game's mechanics that TAS videos reveal. Pretty much read the link in my sig. :P

Meccaprime on SA did a 0% run of Metroid fusion, and it was only Tool asissted for one part, since it's literally impossible to skip a missile expansion without tools. That was an interesting run.
I know! I should do a blind LP of Super metroid! It will make me internet famous! (Note, this is a terrible idea, no one ever do this)

Because it hasn't been done before! Hey while I'm at it I'll do another of my 100% speed runs.

Here's one of the Super Metroid TAS runs, not 100%. It makes Samus like a goddamn ninja-god-queen.

Yeah, Super Metroid is pretty much the most compelling argument for how TAS videos can be interesting. :P
Admittedly not many games are interesting via TAS runs. But Super Metroid... it's usually the one I link people to that makes them concede to the idea to some minor degree, at least.

Also, that video just reminded me - Ceres is the name of a miniature planet in our asteroid belt. So it can be assumed that the research station at the start of Super Metroid is pretty much close to our home, Earth.
Edit - That bit in the video, at about 7:04ish where Samus wall jumps up that spot and morphballs through, I've managed to pull it off but it took a LONG time to practice, and I've only successfully worked it into a speed run once. My thumb was sore as fuck trying to nail it on my practice runs but it's doable.
The Varia Suit adds them as, according to a few sources, places to put heat regulation devices.
When I was a kid I always assumed the shoulder balls were where she stored all those missiles. Now that I'm older I know she instead uses magic (sidenote, I blame Sailor Moon for Samus's armor being magic). As for the arm cannon, one of my favorite little details from Prime was how you could use the x-ray visor and see her flashing different signs with the hand in the cannon to switch beams.
Also my only problem with the suit is really not a fault of these games at all, but it occasionally reminds me of the terrible graphics from another excellent game.
Appropriately, the GIS result page I found this pic on had a pic of Samus in the sidebar.
Samus's height includes the suit, so minus the boots and the helmet she's probably like 5'11 or 6' even.
Goddamn it klemming, I can't stop watching the reMovie. I had things I was gonna do this evening but fuck it, this is more important to sit through.
We finally agree on something. The line that convinced me to watch all of it? A toss up between "Bounty Hunter League of Awesome" or "Few people know that I am the princess of the bird people".
The first time I had heard the term "Crybaby" used as a name for a homing beacon was on Firefly. But I mean, they called it the Crybaby, not the Baby's Cry, which is dumber.
Yeah everyone, stop talking. This is a Klyka LP, we're not supposed to show interest.
The think that always kinda bugged me about Samus's gun arm is that there really isn't enough room for lazor parts, missiles, AND her hand. (That zoom-in during the intro movie is silly in the same vein as the Transformers movie closeups on some transformer's eye showing the whirling blades within)
I know all that's explained via Chozo magic, but for the longest time I always thought she was missing that hand and just had a robot gun arm instead.

I have to say though, Samus' Japanese voice is pretty cool.
The first time I had heard the term "Crybaby" used as a name for a homing beacon was on Firefly. But I mean, they called it the Crybaby, not the Baby's Cry, which is dumber.
that was also a thrown together beacon that had no other purpose than to broadcast a fake SOS.

It wasn't the name of an SOS.
And Mal hadn't just spent 5 minutes talking nonstop about babies.

"This report is maybe twelve years old. Older than the baby, who is dead. Parliament buried it, like the baby was buried, and it stayed buried till River dug it up, brought it back to life so it isn't dead, like the baby. This is what they feared she knew. And they were right to fear because there's a whole universe of folk who are gonna know it, too. They're gonna see it. But the baby won't see anything. Because it's dead and the baby isn't alive to see. Somebody has to speak for these people. You all got on this boat for different reasons, but you all come to the same place. Except the baby, who is dead, and a baby, and dead. So now I’m asking more of you than I have before. Maybe all. The baby gave all. Because it died. The baby died, I mean. Sure as I know anything I know this, they will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground swept clean. Like a baby's bottom. A baby who is dead. Like the baby. Who is dead. A year from now, ten, they'll swing back to the belief that they can make people…better. And I do not hold to that. So no more running. I aim to misbehave. Like a baby would.

While Fusion, the game, was pretty decent and miles ahead of Other M in every way imaginable... the Fusion suit is a goddamn ugly mess.
On that note, I really, REALLY hope the next Metroid title picks up the story at the end of Fusion. And I hope the Other M people stay far, far away from it.

Sakamoto....the father of all things Metroid?
You realize Team Ninja just had their hand in the programming and CG...the story/dialogue was all Sakamoto.

Gunpei Yokoi was the daddy. Sakamoto had a big hand in some of the good ones, sure, but this?
This is Lucas territory, and I don't want Lucas touching anything ever again.

For the last time, a third company was involved in the cinematics of the game and ultimately designed how Samus looked in the game (alongside the other characters), following guidelines (but not direct commanding input) from Sakamoto. Plus, Team Ninja was in control of implementing the story / dialogue. In gameplay too.
Yes, Sakamoto is a massive fuckup lately, but each part of this trio behind Other M fucked up Samus.
See, the cinematics were fine, in fact, they looked fucking awesome. The gameplay was fine, there were a few gaffes, but it was fun.
The only thing that dragged Other M down was the storyline/dialog. Sakamoto's job.
That torpedo of a turd sank the entire ship.
Disagree. Character design went out the goddamn window.

I don't get how you guys manage to put everything on Sakamoto, even though a lot of your beefs have to do with Samus being subjected to Team Ninja's typical treatment of women. A director's control is not absolute, necessarily. There is such a thing as input. And Sakamoto seems to have taken it, only he unfortunately took input from the wrong people. And if that wasn't the scenario, then what happened was a conditional agreement. As in Team Ninja said, "We'll do this, but only if Samus goes our way."
I really doubt that was the case. Japanese game development is a whole different beast and sometimes the director has almost complete control of the project. That really seems to be the case with Other M. I don't doubt there were compromises made, but he really had the final say on everything and often made specific requests. If Team Ninja couldn't convince Sakamoto to keep the game with the nunchuck, I doubt they had much say in other primary aspects.

So Team Ninja and that company behind the cinematics are clear of all errors? I'm not sure I buy it. But... your point about Japanese development is a strong case. Hierarchy is a very, very important thing in Japanese culture in general (especially in business).

The line "Adam Malkovich. I hate that bastard." really sold me on it.

I lost my shit at, "Why not something cool, like 'Dragon's Roar' or 'Cat's Meow'?"
Edit - "'Oops, we broke our ship!' sounds more like it..." 8->

Weird that the gameplay is still quite good.
Don't worry, if the bulk of dumb cutscenes are done for the moment/people have gotten their complaints of their chest things should slow down a bit.
We finally agree on something. The line that convinced me to watch all of it? A toss up between "Bounty Hunter League of Awesome" or "Few people know that I am the princess of the bird people".
Or possibly the reply to the top comment.
