Before anyone sinks comfortably into the assumption that this is as bad as the game is going to get, I warn you: that actual plot starts in the next video.
I got a literal fucking headache from that, just what? Why not just violate Samus with a redhot poker, that would've been more dignifying than that shit. Fuck!
The best part of that is the totally out of left field, "I wonder if he was unconscious as he hit the bottom?" comment. If there was ever a way to completely break the mood of things more than the crybaby bit before, that was it.

I really hope Retro makes the next Metroid game and it has some sort of subtle 'take that' against M:OM.
Also, for those of you not wanting to count: Samus has effectively defeated Ridley five times previously: Once in Metroid, once in Metroid Prime, twice in Metroid Prime 3, and once in Super Metroid.

But this time he's SUPER CEREAL.
See, I would kind of understand if this was their first meet-up since he killed her family/friends. However, after she's kicked his ass five times the only emotion I would expect is "Oh, for fuck's sake."

And when Retro Samus meets Meta Ridley for the first time, her expression is OH FUCK YOU IMMA TEAR YOUR HEAD OFF.

SIX. The metroid manga is canon, and Samus does the EXACT. SAME. THING. She encounters ridley, has a panic attack, gets over it, and then KILLS HIM.

Oh whoops, yeah, don't pay much attention to them japanese anime books. But yeah, apparently that takes place BEFORE Metroid: Zero Mission, so the first time she beat the shit out of Ridley, making it kind of acceptable for her to freak out a bit.

Oh yeah. There it's fine. However, the SIXTH time? No. She should not be freaking out.
And despite coming from the same creative genius and even featuring references to Adam, Samus in Fusion doesn't freak out the slightest when confronting Ridley notRidley. Like some of the arguments I've seen defending this scene, I guess 2D just doesn't have the technology to portray any sort of emotion, ever, so they left it out!

I get the impression that the manga has become a dramatized retelling of Metroid 1 by the time she goes to Zebes for the second time. But yeah, if you consider the entirety of the manga to be canon, the scene in Other M is even more obviously revealed as character undevelopment, since she's supposed to have gotten past this already. Which is pretty pathetic when you consider that the scene in the manga is probably where Sakamoto got the idea to have her flip out to begin with. And the cues Other M rips off borrows from Fusion ruin the story progression in pretty much exactly the same way, so par for the course, I guess.

Remember that the Ridley in Other M is also not actually Ridley. It's just some feral clone made from his DNA. It doesn't even know who Samus is. Or anything at all beyond whatever hunting instincts its species possesses, for that matter. It's also probably only a couple of months old. There's a bunch of baby jokes in there somewhere but I'm too tired to think of them at the moment.
It's even more ridiculous if your version of canon Ridley is the slowbeef/Diabetus one with its ridiculous high pitched Joisey accent. Also, if you've seen the Omega Ridley fight from their Prime 3 LP.
EDIT: I hadn't read the thread yet, heenato: well played.

Samus just glares at him for a second, and stoicly says "It's a livin'"
