Honestly, yeah. That's what I think we will run as a counter to the constant Assassin abuse, but I honestly don't think the community as a whole will embrace Recon the way it really deserves to be.
I doubt Blast Shield will make you impervious to predator missiles and airstrikes.
I wonder why they're making Assassin so powerful. At least in Black Ops I could disable their radar. If they were going to make mine useless, then I'd make theirs useless, too. I guess I just shouldn't expect much for balance from the people who brought us OMA/Danger Close and Lightweight/Marathon/Commando.
I'm both looking forward to and dreading the game at the same time. This is an abusive relationship.

Yeah. I don't expect Blast Shield to be any different from Flak Jacket / TacMask in BLOPs. I just don't understand why it's acceptable that Assassin's so blatantly overpowered. The UAV stuff, I guess I can see, right? If they wanted them to be immune from detection, that's one thing. But why add in the Counter UAV and EMP stuff? Where's the logic in that? Assassin straight-up counters the majority of what Support can do. And Blind Eye straight-up counters everything else. What's the point in having streaks, if everyone's immune to everything? What's the point in having customization at all, when certain perks are glaringly obvious choices.
We're going to be running Recon just so our mini-maps aren't useless. Honestly, yeah.
I really think that running Specialist may be one of the better options now. Streaks won't do anything anyway. I might as well have a ton of perks, including the ridiculously powerful ones everyone else has that make them immune to fucking ... everything.
And you know what? Since Recon "paints" the target on the minimap, I think anyone running Blind Eye should be able to be targeted by automated kill streaks while they're under the Recon effect. I mean, when you "paint" somebody, the whole idea is that you point them out to your support, right? Recon should be the straight-up counter to both Assassin and Blind Eye, in that regard. Sure, you can run around undetected most of the time, but if I tag you with my Recon perk, my air support should probably take notice.
Can someone help me understand why everyone (not just in this forum) is so worked up about Assassin? What makes it so different than things like Cold Blooded & Ghost?
do we know if the support killstreak where youre a chopper and mark targets will pick up blind eye/assassin users? cuz if so, im gonna be running that whenever assassin becomes a problem in a match. and if not, fuck this game.
Can someone help me understand why everyone (not just in this forum) is so worked up about Assassin? What makes it so different than things like Cold Blooded & Ghost?
Cold-Blooded and Ghost are very similar: they both keep you off the UAV/Spy Plane, and allow you to go unseen by enemy air support. In Modern Warfare 3, Infinity Ward essentially realized (we thought) that this was too potent an ability in the absence of Stopping Power and Juggernaut, and decided to split it up into two perks: Blind Eye and Assassin. However, each of these new abilities were given a huge boost in effectiveness to close the gap.
Blind Eye is a tier 1 perk, and it functions as the "invisible to enemy kill streaks" portion of Cold-Blooded / Ghost. It allows the player to go undetectable by enemy air support and sentry guns (so no red boxes around your character when someone's piloting a Predator Missile and whatnot, and automated streaks won't target you). The Pro version grants you additional bullet damage to enemy air support and sentries, and allows you to lock-on faster with launchers. All in all, that's actually pretty solid; that's not where the issue is ...
... the issue is with Assassin, the new tier 2 perk. It functions as the "undetectable on enemy radar" portion of Cold-Blooded / Ghost, and steps it up a notch. Not only are Assassins immune to UAVs, but they're also immune to Advanced UAVs (the MW3-equivalent of the SR71 Blackbird, which could detect Ghosts in Black Ops), as well as Heartbeat Sensors, Portable Motion Sensors, and Thermal. And to top it all off, they're also immune to Counter UAVs and EMPs (the latter of which is an 18-point Support Streak).
Assassin Pros are effectively undetectable by any means except for eyes on target. There are two exceptions, however: the tier 1 Recon perk (which obviously competes with Blind Eye), that paints your target on the minimap when you hit them with explosive damage (and bullet damage, once you go Pro); and the 10-point Support Streak, Recon Drone. Think of Recon Drone like ... an RC-XD, basically, that has a little camera mounted on it. You fly this thing around and "tag" enemies, which then show up on your team's radar, kind of like an SR71 from Black Ops.
The perk's just ... incredibly powerful. It really is. It's just about the only thing worth using, and the consequence of its overuse (along with Blind Eye) is that Core modes will essentially turn into Hardcore modes, where your minimaps might as well not even exist, and everyone's squatting around in dark corners to avoid visual detection (nothing else can pick them up, after all!). And even if you manage to get some bad ass streaks out ... they won't even target anyone using Blind Eye, so ... good fucking job, I guess.
Which is why I think the Specialist Strike Package is starting to look a lot more appealing. With it, you don't gain air support or equipment from scoring kills; you gain additional perks, instead. You start off with 3 perks, like normal, then you gain a 4th at 2 kills, a 5th at 4 kills, a 6th at 6 kills ... and then at 8 kills, you unlock ALL of the perks, and essentially become a walking Swedish death machine. I see very little reason not to run Specialist now, to be honest. Nothing I could toss up will even matter anyway, so why not just have every perk?
do we know if the support killstreak where youre a chopper and mark targets will pick up blind eye/assassin users? cuz if so, im gonna be running that whenever assassin becomes a problem in a match. and if not, fuck this game.
Yes. Recon Drones will detect Assassins. And the Tier 1 perk, Recon.
But that's it.
Other than eyes on target, those are your only ways of detecting Assassins.
I just don't understand why it's acceptable that Assassin's so blatantly overpowered.
I think I've figured it out. They can say they've "fixed it" for Modern Warfare 4, or whatever title comes next, to get people excited about that new release.

You're implying that IW actually thinks through their perk design. That is utterly totally clearly hopelessly untrue.
You know, I can understand Treyarch's mistake. No one had actually seen the game without Stopping Power. It would have been easy to not see the sleeping dragon that was Cold Blooded. I didn't.
But this is just ridiculous. An 18 point streak. 18. The work of an entire game for all but the very best players. And you know how to counter it? I can tell you the exact button combination.
Start, A, scroll to Assassin class, A.
Congratulations. You just shat over some guy's hard work even though you didn't have your Assassin class out to begin with.
And it just shits me. UAVs don't even needed this much design attention. I'm repeating that, with emphasis.
UAVs. Do Not Need. This Much. Design Attention.
Seriously. This is for the argument that we shouldn't just be looking at our maps all day because that's not skillful and somehow choosing a perk is(?). There are already ways to counter UAVs. You can run a launcher and shoot it down. That was originally the best way. You'd be doing your whole team a favour, it took like ten seconds, and there was even a deserved trade-off - you were out of the fight and might get shot in the back while you stare up into the air. That was the point. That was the reward for not running 5-7-11. You got to see the enemy team unless one of them did some hard work to wipe the slate clean - or they dropped the Stopping Power. If that hard work didn't appeal to them, they could run the CUAV. Only a 4 kill streak. 3 if you were desperate to get it out fast. And once again, it helped your whole team.
Then BLOPS came out and we got ANOTHER way to counter Planes of all sorts - the SAM turret. Only 4 kills and a little bit of waiting around - yet again, NOT HARD - and you could then destroy all of these apparently easy-mode 3 killstreaks.
But apparently every fucking method of detection on the planet is unfair and skilless and OP and needs nerfing, except when I'm using it because my UAVs should work because I chose a perk and that's skill. Or something.
I said it a few pages ago. CUAV and SAM turrets are the whole reason I still play BLOPS. Those streaks let me accept Ghost. At least the playing field is somewhat even now. For ducks it's blackbirds because he runs with a full party. But none of those are good anymore. SAM turrets are at 8, CUAVs won't work, and there is no real blackbird anymore. It's a UAV sweep with directions - because we all need the help to realise that the enemy is probably heading from their spawn towards the action, don't we?
I'm rambling, but the point is, I can accept now that there is an anti-UAV perk. You want to ignore my 3 killstreak because of what you did in class creation? Whatever. But if YOU want to see ME, then you have to deal with my countermeasures. Except you don't now. Not really.
I just want to say something else. Ghost is a selfish perk. It is. It's selfish and I hate that. It makes you not care about the spy planes that are constantly up. In fact, it makes you welcome them. Otherwise, you're not getting anything for your perk, right? And those two or three players who aren't running Ghost? Fuck those guys, I've got mine. Ghosts, the guys who are best positioned to shoot support down, are also the ones with the least incentive to do so. Launchers, CUAVs, SAM turrets - all ways to help my team do better. But why would I use them? That would waste my perk.
I can't hate Treyarch for not seeing the terrible potential of Ghost. But fuck Assassin, and fuck IW. I'm going to buy MW3. But I'm seriously thinking of leaving it in a few months. I have better things to do than rage at people who don't understand their own game.
But rage aside, I'm just hoping Sitrep Pro is easy to get and amazing. Same with Recon Pro. Isn't it funny that you need a Pro perk to somewhat kinda mostly counter vanilla Assassin - and that there is NO counter for Assassin Pro? Just something to think about.
Quickdraw might help too. Yeah, I'm banking on Quickdraw.
...Okay that shit about Assassin not being picked up by Advanced UAV is about the dumbest fucking shit.

Seriously doubt MW3 will sell even 500,000 copies on PC.
Sure Activision don't really need to care about the PC since it is less than 10% of their revenue but shit like not being able to play a ranked match and fill bars unless someone hosts the game through their matchmaking service (which if it's anything like MW2 will blow) where the only way to get away from hackers/cheaters/shitty hosts is to leave is wrong.
6 months into MW2 when the population started thinning you couldn't play a match without a hacker. Fuck I can still play [email protected] or CoD4 without any hackers simply because of dedicated servers with dedicated admins.
Those perks do nothing other than enforce that, actually. They effectively factor out the automated killstreaks leading to said engagements, and unless you're one of those unfortunates that uses thermals that doesn't really affect you much.
Your problem based on what I read seems more in line with combating playstyles, not perks.

Yeah. And sadly Assassin helps support that playstyle. And it has no hard counters outside of recon at the moment.
That being said I'll wait to see how MW3 and Assassin turns out. As long as half my matches don't turn into games of hide n' seek like they did in BLOPS I probably won't care too much.
Not gonna lie, going to buy this for the campaign on PC and then cry about multiplayer.
