A friend of mine and I are having a debate: When attending prom, was dinner served at the dance, or did you go to a restaurant beforehand?
(My roommate and I saw a preview for some prom movie coming out, and one of the male characters complained about having to pay for dinner. My roommate scoffed, as he said dinner was served at the dance, while I disagreed. I think the "dinner @ prom" thing is an East Coast thing, but that's why I'm doing this survey. For science.)
Thomamelas and amateurhour, where did you attend prom?
amateurhour, alright, fine. I don't have any bad prom stories, but I'm pretty sure that after asking this one girl out to several dances during high school, when she was always "busy", her parents made her go to homecoming with me during senior year. It was clear she really didn't want to be there with me, and neither of us had fun. But then, I failed at hint taking. Edit: But I got better!

Sheep, I've been polling the people at work (live in Philly, work in Jersey), and it seems that having dinner at prom was kind of the thing everyone did out here (other than a couple outliers). Most of the people who had dinner at prom seem to have had their proms at some kind of banquet hall, like at a Marriott, or something, which provided both the space and the food. My semi-small town prom in Easter Washington State was at the big hall at the fair grounds. Nice place, but no food facilities, not that anyone would have expected it.
I'm in Saskatchewan here, and we had dinner at our Graduation.
But, we also had sort of a winter formal that I guess could have been a "prom" and dinner was served there as well.
Still, we didn't have anything we called "prom". We called that winter formal the Grad Banquet, even though it was in the middle of the year and we had a banquet (and dance) at Grad (and then the school-organised aftergrad party).

Yeah that's basically how ours was as well, including the school-organized aftergrad party where only half the people could drink and it was on a boat.

Ours was a completely dry aftergrad. The next night there were some parties, if I recall.
I don't know what was available at my school's prom cause I knew it would be boring and instead went to an art school's prom at the aquarium. My mom took pictures and everything and never knew I went to a different prom.
Also our prom was separate from our grad party. Which I also did not go to.

Grad was separate. Our grad party was an overnight event where we basically had a YMCA to ourselves. They had a faux casino set up, karaoke. And of course we found lots of hidden nooks.
NorCal. Had a prom junior year and senior year. Both were at a crappy Hilton located 40 minutes away from the HS, catered by the cooking staff (who were equally terrible). Junior year prom we ate at the venue, and it was bad. Senior year we went out to a more local place and had a really good meal.
I enjoyed my junior year prom/date more than my senior year prom/date, though.

Let's play Mario Kart or something...
Crazy Ontario folks.
However these were East Coast Proms.

also, this should totally become an embarrassing prom stories thread.

Even IF food was served at the dance, the classy thing to do is to hit the town with your date before hand and go get dinner.
Tell your buddy to stop being a cheap ass.
You lurker ;-)

I totally thought this thread said Porn and Food.
Joking aside, poor girl was mortified.
Though I think it's actually common across the country. We have a prom/grad combined.
I never finish anyth
Ate before, Dallas.
I am a Northeasterner and scrapple is definitely considered a Pennsylvania/New York thing for everyone that I've hung out with.
Senior Prom/Ball we ate there. Northeast.

You're all tainted by geographical proximity.
I assure you, you didn't miss very much.
