#NBA2K12 to hit Steam and other Digital Platforms around 1 PM PST today. PC Players rejoice!
I'm probably the only person here that cares, but whatever. Rejoice I shall.
With Portal 2 being on sale maybe I'll finally get the chance to play the co-op campaign.
Is it 360 controller enabled? And is there a diverse range of options for the PC or is it just a quick console port?
If it's like NBA 2K11, controller support and basically a console port. I never saw the console versions in action, but aside from some choppiness during post-game recaps and highlight reels the game looked fantastic and performed flawlessly on PC. The usual video settings (AA, VSync, etc) were all adjustable in 2K11. I would tell you if anything's changed in 2K12, but Steam is being unusually slow and taking a long time to download.
How on earth is Crysis still $30.00 new? That shit should be $15, or even better, a tenner.
Two words: Electronic Arts
Honestly, I'm surprised it's on sale, but I guess EA has been doing sales on Steam every now and then.
edit: on the other hand, Bulletstorm is down to $20 new, so my snark was probably misplaced.
I'm hoping for Bulletstorm at $10 or less during one of the two sales, which would sway my hand to finally snagging it. Even $15 would probably do it, given that I'll have at least 2 more paycheques into the credit card by then.
I'll tell you what is odd; Dead Space 1 and 2 are both $20, despite DS1 being, obviously, several years older. I'm pretty sure it's been as low as $5 on sale, having the first and second game in the sequel cost the same amount of money baffles me.
And, though I doubt anyone's exactly been waiting for updates on the matter, I'm into Chapter 13 of DS and continue loving it. 10 had good atmosphere, 11 was fairly fun, then 12 was pure awesome.
13 thus far has a good build up developing. I had a minor enemy type spoiler pop up in my perusings a while back, so I know I'll be dancing with something unpleasant soon.
Fucking regenerator.

Forar, just wait until you get to the last three rooms in 13. (A stacked chamber of three rooms, open in the middle.) You will die more there than the rest of the game combined.
Drovek wins the prize. I'll send you a PM, Drovek.
Thank you very much, man!
(Now let's download this and rock like it's 2007... like, if I had a good machine back then. But now.)
Can we read the story?
I'll leave that up to the winner! Drovek?
Oh, sure sure
Hope you guys like it too!
This was the last thing Steven expected.
He was well prepared: every technique polished to near-perfection. He fought his nervousness and calmed it down. At least he hoped he looked calm.
It took him a while to realize why he was on his back, facing the ceiling: He slipped on someone’s sweat and fell down in front of many people; the room dead quiet.
This was not the start of a black-belt exam he wanted.
I've never found ars technica stuff to be particularly helpful. They usually drag some heavy bias in with their reviews and such.
Yeah, they seem to go out of their way to be the "alternative" review source, much like Destructoid. They aren't blatantly contrarian, just focus on things most review outlets don't.

I'm going to go ahead and second this. Ars, while great for tech news, typically drags out some pretty odd things in game reviews to make a big stink about. I'm not saying they're wrong about RAGE specifically, but their reviewers don't seem to be the best at looking at the big picture. They get very focused on certain things based more on their own expectations than the actual merit of the game.
But hey, just one guy's opinion here.
Everything looks beautiful when you're young and pretty
So, I played Alpha Protocol for a few hours. I finally plugged in an xbox360 controller, and I'm enjoying it a lot more. There's some aspects about it that could probably have been improved (ie: removing the time limit on dialog options,) but it is a pretty solid game.

I'm firmly in the camp that thinks the timed dialogue is actually a positive. It keeps the flow of conversation going and makes you think on your feet.

The time limits on the dialog were my favorite design decision in the whole game. I would have preferred a liiiittle more info on what you'd actually say, but the time limit was brilliant. It made conversation more of a game. More challenging, at least.

Finally done, and definitely enjoyed the last handful of chapters.
The Force Gun is civilization ('cause nothing says loving in a game with regular "OMG IN YOUR FACE" jump scares like being able to say "fuck you" to everything in front of you), and a fully upgraded Pulse Rifle with 1500 rounds of ammo puts out a whole lotta work.
Enjoyed it, hope the rumoured work on DS3 comes to fruition.
Obviously the "stinger" dialogue indicates the setup for another, but no official word has been made, though some very minor stuff was leaked not too long ago.
Anyway, while the Regenerator took some dealing with, and the "3 stacked rooms" was a whole pile of action, the change to more constant/regular combat actually made it less nerve wracking for me. Regular foes I can deal with. Having to wait 5 minutes in between setpieces can make me antsy.

Bwahaha, oh god, some of the options gave you completely unexpected dialogue in that game. It was so bad sometimes, and yet that in itself was kind of charming if you just rolled with it instead of save scumming the dialogue.
I made backup copies of all of the installs after getting the disc itself, and just recently found the hard drive I was using at the time in a box at my mom's house. I took it home, threw it in an old USB enclosure I had lying around, and fired it up in my current PC as an external drive to see if the data was still there, and it was. The disc was in the box as well.
Between a hard drive I was using in middle and high school and the games/shareware I found, it's been a fairly nostalgic week for me.
So, am I the only person on the planet that has that terrible Judge Dredd game in my Steamlist? I want to do some co-op sometime, to share the pain.
Not sure if I like F.E.A.R. I mean, I do, but I don't like the scares. I'd rather play a horror-themed FPS.
Fear was never really about the scares...well, it was SUPPOSED to be, but it's honestly more about the fact that you have a shotgun that makes people explode in clouds of blood.

FEAR is more creepy than it was ever scary, which added a nice little edge to the FPS proceedings. The game never actually scared me but it did make my skin crawl a few times. And since the shotgun gets all the love (myself included) I'm going to take a moment to say that the dual pistols are kick ass and god bless Monolith for proxy mines and remote charges in addition to grenades. You can never have enough explosions in my opinion. And when you can throw a grenade, trigger the slo-mo then shoot the grenade as it gently lofts into a group of baddies causing their body parts to go in different directions in slow motion... well, I need new pants for moments like that.

My response to both of these well worded posts...
HV Penetrator!
Short of the stake gun from Painkiller, where the AI was neglected in the face of pure numbers and variety of foes, the Penetrator was one of my favorite guns in first person man-shoots.
There's something about welcoming your flankers with a grenade, slowing down time, and watching as the concussive blast blows them into the air (as well as apart in some cases), destroying geometry in the its wake. Next, while the guys who thought they were so smart are but floating body parts and red mist, you pin the guy running straight at you's sternum to the wall and watching it ragdoll obscenely.
It was a constant release of happy juice into my brain every time that happened!
FEAR makes you feel like the action hero in a John Woo movie where you slide kick and scissor kick fools in slow motion while nailing their heads to the wall with the penetrator.

And that is so much fun. But the stress of being scared, man...the stress
(actually it's not really scary at all, but I want to shoot more mans, not go through the prerequisite scary zone every 20 minutes or so)

So why is it still €50 here?
Not that the price of Bulletstorm affects me personally. I already bought it at full price on Steam earlier in the year.

Check out the Penny Arcade World of Tanks thread to join us in some fun times.
In Magic Land, maybe!
Still 50 euros here and it has never been on sale, as far as I know.
Thank you very much, man!

Yeah, I have that too, and it's the KS version, which came out in 1996. It made it run on modern computers.
Steam Support is the worst. Seriously, the worst

Does anyone wanna split a two pack with me? I can paypal, direct debit or just buy you some stuff to equivalent value when I fly home on Friday night

There's this pesky problem of needing a second person.
If only unreliable humans could be replaced by robots.

That is a pretty great cd.

I had that disk. Hell, I might have that disk somewhere still. The original Need for Speed was a huge time waster for me.
