Creature Design Thread, Pure and Simple

You know what, I'm gonna go ahead and get my silly goose nerdiness all over this thread.

Out of everything I've ever played, the game with my absolute favorite creature/enemy design is Phantasy Star Online. An old, DC era jrpg that was ported a billion times and everyone has forgotten about.

I've had Barlowe's Guide to Extraterrestrials since before I could read. That was pretty much straight illustrations of other people's writings, but it ruled so much.

I have Barlowe's Brushfire portfolio - sort of like a secondary complimentary work to Inferno.
And one day I WILL own Inferno.
@ Metzger Meister I actually found a kid's how-to-draw book based on Thompson's undead artwork. God only knows how that got approved.

I believe it's a thin wax/latex layer over a slightly smaller mannequin within - the tendrils are branches. I've actually been in this thing's presence. If you live in London, it's at the Saatchi Gallery and it and the accompanying exhibition are well worth a look.

The detail on the surface and hue of the skin just HAS to be seen up close. Exquisite bruised flesh cannot be captured photographically.

Android Jones did some fantastic artwork for these. He pretty much defined the Prime look and much of Metroid outside of Prime thereafter.

I went to see this again at the Barbican recently on the big screen as part of their animation season. Still the best Ghibli movie for me, and even more incredible on a grand scale.
