Injured Quads

I know, medical advice and the internet and all of that.

So I damaged my quads playing soccer two weeks ago. I went zero to sixty, couch to field, and came away with a tweaked knee and ankle and a little bit of soreness in my quads. I jogged all week (sprinting hurt my ankle), pulled a groin muscle (everything below the waist is kaput), but no more pain in the thighs.

Then, last week, I go out to the field to run and practice some skills. I do a few laps, stretch out and everything. I get a jogging start and then go to sprint and it feels like two knives went through my quads. It was amazing the pain. I try to keep going but I can't. No extra pain from walking, but of course I was limping around for awhile. Rested it all week, didn't play in yesterday's game, and feel only a little twinge from them here and there.

What should I do? I figure there's some active recovery I can do, but I don't want to reinjure them testing to see if they're healed. I went out back and moved around a bit, kicked the ball around and the twinges were still there. It's starting to bother me mentally. (Technically, it's bothering me mentally again, since I was really down right after hurting them last week.)

you should start by taking a week or two of
quad pulls take a long time to recover. you going ot and trying to sprint and kick is just about the worst thing you could be doing at this point

Truly, I haven't used them since last Tuesday, when there was an incident involving a spider web to the face and an automatic jump back that brought the pain back all over again. Today, I merely dribbled the ball a bit and attempted to stretch them. When I felt the twinges I backed off.

Don't even warm up or stretch. Just rest for 2 to 3 weeks at least. I pulled my calf pretty badly last spring. I took a week off and tried to run again. That was a bad idea...ended up making it much worse and had to take a good 4-5 weeks off for it to heal.

If I understand correctly, you have not been exercising regularly for a while and have started running and playing soccer after a long break from physical exercise, yes? If so, how long of a break are we talking here? Six months? A year? Five years? Ten years? If it's been a year or more, you are very likely trying to do too much too soon and will continue to injure yourself until you start a bit more slowly. Don't assume your body can handle sprinting around a soccer field if you haven't been exercising for a good year or more. I would recommend starting a walking program when your body is fully recovered and slowly work your way up to jogging. From there, you can start to think about sprinting.

i am of the school of thought that mild activity is better for muscle healing than inactivity. walking or whatever to warm up easily than light stretching. you need to increase bloodflow to the injured area . heat with light activity then stretching. if light jogging doesn't hurt then do that, but avoid cutting or sudden changes in speed etc. i would stay away from a bike

I was doing heavy weightlifting earlier this year. High impact physical activity outside of lifting was two years ago.

You probably strained or sprained something in your quads, if you know someone who is a sports doc or a phsyiotherapist go get checked out, there is a few simple tests they can do to make sure you didnt do anything too damaging and they are pretty quick.

if you dont know anyone, then hit a walk in clinic and they should be able to do the same.
