I made the mistake of putting it as buy it now at $20. It sold within 10 minutes. Just waiting to have him give feedback.
Also hurry up ups man!
Jeez, yeah, that's too much to ignore. I just threw mine up there at a Buy it Now of $25, we'll see what happens-

I just got my Savage Kantus code from Amazon and I'm debating whether or not I want to try and sell it on eBay (I've never sold anything on eBay before) or use is because I actually think it looks pretty cool.
It's going for like $30 on eBay, which is ridiculous, and there isn't a shortage of good skins already in the game, and there's also a good chance of it becoming DLC down the line. But again, I've never sold anything on eBay before and I'm not sure I want to bother with that.
If that skin isn't a must-have for you, I say go for it. If you've got PayPal, selling that code will be a snap and you will be all the richer for the frenzied buyers.
The Gears 3 controller is also going for triple the price if it includes the DLC. The DLC itself is also selling ludicrously. I was lucky to find a decent price for both on Amazon.
Also, I just got the e-mail today that one of my sites got the game in for review and will send it my way. Kind of makes the whole Best Buy midnight launch pointless, but I don't regret it.
I've gotta say, I'm honestly surprised at the campaign so far. There's a surprising amount of.....character development. It's a lot deeper than I expected, and they make some good strides in helping you identify with the hopeless scenario that everyone is in (there's a particularly good bit involving crossword puzzles).
The banter between the characters is legitimately good too. Maybe they rubbed off me after 3 games, or maybe they finally got someone besides Cliffy B or a shitty comic writer to handle the script. I mean, even fucking COLE TRAIN of all people has subtle drama moments. It's madness.
My only issue is the backstory that apparently took place in a comic or novel or something, which means I'm missing the whole story on a few details. Don't suppose anyone knows where I can get those details?
As for multiplayer, so far it's been more hits than misses. I had one early match that felt really off, like the camera jittering around while my character is propelled fifty feet across the map from a shotgun blast. The ranked matches though have been much smoother, and I was doing really well too (hit 8 levels in just under two matches).
The only downside is the long wait for matchmaking in Ranked, but maybe this was due to the few number of midnight owners. At least I hope that's the case. Did they say whether they can update the multiplayer on the fly without patches, ala Mortal Kombat?
Anyway, I'm going to take a snail's pace with the Campaign, so no doubt most of you will complete it before me. If you're up for replaying older chapters at higher difficulty though, give me a message. I won't turn down co-oping with anyone here.
Also, kindly add me to the Gears meta tag: Dr Shizuma
Yes, I forgot to mention another gripe: the AI companions are still kind of retarded. I was in the first boss fight in the game, and Anya was just standing around getting slammed by tentacles.
Probably wanted to see what all the fuss was about. (ba dum dish)
Also, is Sam played by Fang (FFXIII) or Chloe (Uncharted)? That voice sounds really familiar.
Have done do I need to be friends with a PAer to join in on games?
If you're friends with the metatag, just go into the metatag's friend's list to see all the other Gears PA people, and you can look at the friend's of your friend's friend's friends. Still no gold lancer unlock I am sad =/ but there are more important things to discuss . Hardcore is way too fucking easy so far and im at act 4 the limited ammo thing is also kind of annoying. On the plus side I am really getting into execution , have always been a warzone guy but for some reason ive been playing execution more and having a blast. Also the limited edition controller looks badass as hell and im glad I went and got it.

picked up gears 3 on the way to work
EB/Gamestop Canada's big promo leading up to Gears 3 was trade in 2 games (worth 8 bucks or more) and get $50 off the price of the game. I forgot about that so I quickly phoned yesterday to confirm I still had 2 games that qualify and then I figured I'd run down after work and 'pre-order' just so I could get one of dem donwloadable codes. Dude on the phone said wait till tomorrow go come in because unadvertised but if you do the trade in 2 promo the day of release you get Gears 3 for free instead of having to pay 10 bucks.
So I go in this morning on the way to work, mention what the guy said to me yesterday and the 2 people at the registers have no fucking idea what I'm talking about and start asking me who i was talking to, when did I call, etc. Eventually they look in this mega-huge binder of printouts that I guess they get from corporate and after 5 minutes of flipping finally find the promotion. The computer wasn't doing it automatically, they had already totally sold a bunch at the normal $50 promo and apparently felt super bad about it lol
So I got the game for free and they threw me a DLC code since I told them about the promo It's uh.. Commando Dom apparently

Yeah, the woman who wrote the 4 novels also wrote for this game. The game being deeper doesn't surprise me at all due to that.
Not that she's some pillar of amazing writing, but she is an actual author. From the books I've read she apparently really liked Baird (I do too, sup) and added a lot of depth to Cole in the books. So, hearing that carried out in the game is unsurprising.
If they didn't properly explained "Previously, ON GEARS..", that should be a definite negative, though. Requiring reading of the books is kinda meh.

To be honest all of Gears games have been poor for explaining backstory. Pretty sure in Gears 1 they never even state what the Pendulum Wars or Emergence Day were
Beast mode is tough! You start with basic set of locust peons, like wild tickers, bomb tickers, grunt, etc. But you will get to use 2nd and 3rd level units as you progress along the levels. After few rounds, you are faced with wires and stationary weapons. You have time limit to kill all human players and things get more difficult. Oh and there are human heroes which can only be killed by executing. It's something new and good thing to break away from horde mode.
Oh man horde mode is more intense with many different units and variables.
Love the game so far and overwhelmed due to the fact that there are soooooo many things I need to unlock(medals and achivos).
And campaign is very well done. I just finished first chapter.

Yeah, the only way I knew about Emergence Day was watching Gears of War stuff before the game came out. Pretty odd things to never mention considering it's responsible for the burned-out state of the world.

Baird is easily the best character in the whole series, and to hell for anyone who disagrees.
The fact that he now has a comic foil/love interest makes the new character awesome by default.
Again, this doesn't turn Gears into some poetic sci-fi drama or anything. It's just astonishing they actually bothered to give a character as stereotypically dense as Cole Train even a modicum of character development.
After two games of "Game On Baby!" it's just a big surprise.
Also if anyone happens to have a link to the old PA Photoshop thread for Gears 1, I would love you forever if you posted it here.
the extent of Marcus' backstory in Gears of War 1 was
"Didn't you fight at Aspho fields?!"
"Yup"
and
"Marcus, you have a dad?"
"Yup"
I kind of liked all that, actually. I tend to like things that don't spell everything out, though, and just make oblique references to other events. It makes it feel like more of a complete world to me, where a bunch of shit is out there happening, just not to you.

claudia black, so yes, chloe from uncharted and morrigan in dragon age.
Also, I think Jennifer hale plays two characters within 10 minutes of each other when you're in hanover with the stranded.
Mutations are basically skulls from Halo. They either up/lower difficulty (and give you negative or positive score multipliers) or just enable wacky effects. You can enable them for arcade campaign, horde and beast.
I really have to say I'm impressed with the LE packaging. I'm a sucker for Limited Eds. anyways, but this is one of the better ones since Halo: Reach. The box itself really does feel like an award case - with the medal, "data disk" and flag - nice weight to it, doesn't feel cheaply made (not that it's expensively made bear in mind). I was under the impression that this was a steelbook game case, so this is a pleasant surprise. Definitely worth the extra 10 bucks!

Yeah the statue was.... much bigger than I thought it would be. I thought it would be the size of the action figures they had before. Guess I wasn't paying attention.
The best part of the LE was definetly the medal, with the inscriptions and stuff. Really cool. Even the foam packing inside the box had COG emblems on it.
Oh, and the game kicks ass too. I played some campaign solo (I was trying to avoid the horde spolier everyone was talking about), but I think I'd be having more fun if I was co-oping with my brother. So I'll just jump into horde tonight after work. Plus I'm just finishing the last book so I'd rather leave the campaign for after that. The "we're all stranded" video really doesn't do the backstory justice.

I'm curious what the difference is between standard campaign and arcade. Does arcade skip cutscenes?
Regardless, I like how you can gain exp and levels in campaign. It might make hitting level 100 not quite as grueling this time around.
Arcade gives you a killfeed like Horde and gives you points and multipliers for your kills as you progress, with a scoreboard at the end of each chapter.
@vgreminders - Don't miss out on timed events in gaming! @gamefacts - Totally and utterly true gaming facts on the regular!
