the only worthwhile pistols are the ones with the 15-round clips.
give them a good pride mod and go to town on everyth.
magnums/revolvers/heavy pistols suck.
the best bang-for-your-buck gun would be the Shock Rifle mod on a good Auto Rifle.
also, once you max purna's fury, it's much more useful because of the area heal. finished a group of enemies and you're low on health with no restoratives around? pop a fury.

I don't understand why you think heavy pistols suck. It feels like a 15 round pistol, just with higher damage and a slower fireing rate. My experience with auto rifles has been the opposite as well. The recoil and low damage make them about as good as pistols, I never had the chance to use them in large groups of zombies where stray bullets may still find their mark. I haven't really used them extensively the rarity of ammo has kinda warned me off them, I might have to try them more though.
Purna's fury is amazing for taking out large groups of Zeds, which makes it great for a lot of Moresby. The multiplyer for xp is also quite useful as you can get up to 3x fairly easily. I do use it if I am on low health, but I usually hunt down a zombie pack before I do.
That's strange, because the best gun I had was a blue Speedy Magnum. It started out at 500 damage, and I was only finding regular Pistols doing around 370 by the end of the game. Granted, it was slow as hell, but man could it kill people. My Pride pistols never proc-ed their electric crits anyway, so I didn't find the tradeoff to be too bad.

I had a six-shot magnum with amazing stats that I received in the middle of my play-through and kept it until the end. Every new pistol I came across didn't come close to its' stats and I was pretty happy with it.
Finished the game in about 22 hours. Was wondering if I should run through it again as the same character and same stats as before and try to fully unlock all upgrades, or if I should start over as someone different.
regarding heavy pistols - it's generally true that they have more damage, but their accuracy is pretty crap.
It isn't? Shoot slower or something. I've never really had issue with heavy pistols. Ammo efficiency~
It's not like they have much use outside of Pride and going for crits on big zombies anyway, but with enough damage they can do all right against small groups to conserve precious, precious shotgun ammo.
So did the PC version of this game get the patch that was supposed to go out? I hate that I can't see if Steam updates my game at all. And googling it just give me a ton of articles about how the game needed a day 1 patch or something.

when you launch the game, the version will appear in the main menu, at the bottom on the right. you should be at 1.2.0.

I definitely prefer striker for the auto rifle.
When it procs, it is devastating.
I used Detox on the rifle (more time to get headshots), Pride on the pistol (stomp), and Striker on the shotgun (last bit of damage in case I only winged them)
umm i kept everything new game plus i think if you select a chapter to start you lose items/mods? (but i havent done that yet) allegedly you get to redistribute your skill pts that way?

Supposedly it also adjusts your level to something chapter appropriate if you pick a chapter...so be careful with that.
So I'm a handful of hours into the game as Logan, but find myself not wanting to throw anything and I'm not really interested in the throwing mechanic... should I start over as a different character?

So, weapon mods...
Is there really any reason to use a melee mod other than electrical? Because I'm loving the hell out of paralyzing special undead and then stomping their heads. Floaters were just not a problem with this.
Also,
The Developers mods you get from the skulls. Are they actually useful, or just good for fucking around? Not sure I want to drop the 10k and inventory space for something that's not going to be something I'll use.

Toxic mods are better for Xian because electrical when it procs (and with xian it'll proc all the fucking time) tends to nickle and dime your already limited health pool, where as toxic makes the fuckers puke and doesn't do any actual harm to your character.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

I thought that Deathstalker was the best for most bladed weapons because of its 6% crit chance bonus. The electric mod for bladed weapons that has 6% is only useable on Machette's. At least in my playthrough, Katana have had superior damage.

If you don't think you'll ever use it then sure why not. But I gotta say, chucking a knife into a suicider as it walks by a thug is all kinds of satisfying. Not that this is specific to Logan, just a comment on the throwing mechanic in general.
Lawl, I like how no one even commented on her getting shot at the end.
I know Jin had a...
...rough time in the game and suspected that something would happen to her during the finale, so I took all my loot back before fighting the boss. I was slightly surprised to see her get shot, but more surprised over the fact that I didn't really care. I've said it before, character design in DI could have been a lot better.
And I agree with most others here. The ending was crap and didn't make much sense to me.
One of the problems with characters (all characters) is their dead eyes, and lifeless faces, despite the fact they could talk i still couldnt convince myself that survivors werent zombies....

One of her prized possessions is a picture of her standing in front of the hotel, wearing the exact same ratty t-shirt and overalls? You'd think she'd own more than one shirt, especially if you're going to either go swimming or have your picture taken.

I never saw eyes clipping through eyelids, that sounds like a graphical problem that doesn't effect everyone to me.
Edit: I think the first Act was the only thing that felt odd. What with every single woman ever, zombie or not, wearing a medium sized two-piece. Only saw one or two guys in trunks, but not one single woman in a shirt or at least pants. Was weird.

I wasn't thinking so much of technical details, but rather the character concepts themselves. Despite the attempts to give the Fab 4 backgrounds, none of them felt like complete or even interesting characters to me. This could very well be my own problem and nothing that bothers anyone else. When I started playing, I felt genuinely lost, because I didn't want to play as any of them. I ended up picking Xian, because her "theme" was stabby, stabby and I thought DI was mostly about melee combat (the guns turned out to be a welcome surprise).
The game is great, but I agree that a couple of extra months of work could have turned it into a modern classic. The last two acts felt rushed to me.
So guys, I remember a post with a few recommended PC mods for the game. I would definitely like an FOV change, or is it too much hassle/risk for the benefits? Also something to stop alcohol auto-switching to my current weapon warrrrharrgablll
So this game goes from periods of running well, to running like shit. I get stuttering, and fps lag. It's made worse when I turn, and it lags at the same time you get minor screen tear, resulting in fucking terrible, prolonged screen tear that occurs almost whenever my character turns, and actually gives me a headache. It's very disorientating.
Now this happened suddenly the other day, it was running fine, and now it has bursts of running like shit. It'll switch back and forth in quality. I've updated my video drivers, and it helped for a little while. Could it be my video card is dying. Or maybe its overheating and my computer needs a good clean?

Try turning your computer off, leaving it off for a few minutes, then rebooting and straight away running Dead Island. If you get the problem straight away, it's probably not heat, if it takes a while to set in then it's probably heat.
