Honestly, +99% jump attack damage, +60% damage when attacking from behind. Add in bonuses to sharp weapons (highest damage dealing weapons), and I honestly believe Xian can one shot a Thug without even needing Fury.

Purna does it with a single shotgun shell, tbh.

Meh. Get a lucky Shock Mod proc and everything falls over for a good headstomp. Sans Rams for some reason. Happened to me on the "final boss" for great hilarity.
Man, must have broken quest triggers something fierce in my solo run with Sam B.
Act 1 stuff:
Can't get the quest from whatsherface in Svetlana's hut, which rewards the Heavy mod.
The guy on the radio that's trapped in the bunker to the south still hasn't talked on the radio and thus isn't there, and the Weighted mod is where he is.
Just remembered something I wanted to share; beware of Molotovs on escort quests. While faster than your usual escortee, the NPCs retain the usual lacking sense of self preservation.
I was running a guy somewhere when we come to a little 5 foot drop into a pile of zombies. He says I should take care of them. Feeling lazy, I toss a Molotov onto them, and they burn to death.
He tells me I did a good job, and then jumps down into the pit of fire, causing him to be set alight himself and dying, causing me to restart the escort.
Mistakes were made.
First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER!

Throwing a weapon with paralysing touch mod and having it proc on the first hit is wonderful. Especially when its a Ram standing around unsuspecting and you flick a machete into its skull from behind as Xian.

My last boss fight was pretty easy too. Well, the second part. The detox effect on my rifle kept triggering, so he was pretty much stunned the whole fight.

Backstab seems more useful with spectre skill when playing coop than solo. I think you might be understimating just how fast her fury builds. (The video is crappy, but illustrates the point)
Ok, I'm admitting I am doing it wrong, and need to learn how to play. With that being said, how in the hell do I pull off Xian's "jump attack"? I always just thrust over their fucking head, never a slash, never hits a damn thing. It's just easier to jump kick em down then slice their head off.

Yea, i did shock rifle, pretty much the same thing. Stayed stunned the whole time, after i ran out of ammo i switch to flaming shotty...that did the trick...
anyone else notice the part where your to get into the hotel, to use the raido to talk to the main plot guy.
That the lifeguard makes it sound like your going to have to trek through the hotel from the ground floor to the top to reach it, and to keep an eye out for the guys who went before to try and use it. yet when you enter the front door....
Cut scene! your using the raido.

Got to give this a try last night, few questions that I couldn't find answers to.
Is there a trick to stomping? I've been jump kicking and then just kicking them repeatedly when they are down. Was kinda expecting some slow animation I had to be careful to use around multiples. Kinda like dead space.
On the PC, can I save without going back to a safe room? Is there a way to figure out what is a safe zone? Right now I have just been running back to the bodyguard station.
Still trying to get the hang of knives with puma or whatever the gun womans name is. Stabbing them when down seems to work but I can't seem to get a head shot off when they are standing.
Oh also is stamina just the endurance bar or is that health? Trying to figure out if she has any health regen talents, only saw one for stamina on kick kills.

You need the middle skill in the combat tree for the slow stomp and the last one for the jump stomp.
Lmao. Those screenshots in OP are ridiculous; someone want to point me to the settings to get my game to look like that?
ya just buy it on 360
Mine looks like that more or less, but it involved some hojiggery. Gotta find a file called Video.scr in User/Documents/DeadIsland/out/Settings and edit it via Notepad. Make sure you check the comments at the top of the file; some of the settings actually require lower values to look better (pretty much everything involving "quality", I believe).
Graphically speaking, I'm actually really impressed with the game. It runs incredibly well for me; I've got it jammed to the max and I don't think I've ever seen the framerate under 50 FPS. It also looks completely gorgeous and provides some awesome vistas at certain points.
I can't even open that, I just get the option to 'Test', 'Install' or 'Configure' and unfortunately only testing it works. There's no 'Open With...' option at all.

Hey fellow PA'ers,
Picked up the game recently and it looks like it would be fun to co-op online with this game.
Currently I'm a lvl. 7, (+4 hrs in as character Purna) and have brought some survivors off the beach to first safehouse. My playstyle is more about exploration and just being mellow. Not really interested in goofing around or avoiding story elements.

Yeah I was expecting a huge trek, but honestly that wasn't a big loss in my opinion.
I mean at that point we've already gone through the hotel once, and I wanted to hit up the jungle and the game abided.

I don't get this either - I put one point in it, but it seems like I jump and hit attack and then she just pokes forward. It rarely ever connects.

Get a bigger blade. Knives don't swipe well, axes and swords do....

When you get halfway down a skill tree, you get a special 'stomp' move. You'll see an icon appear on the heads of enemies who are down but still alive, and when you aim for the head and hit 'E' (or whatever your stomp button is) you'll do a special animation that insta-kills them, but takes a bit of time. When you make it to the bottom of the skill tree, the stomp move becomes way faster.
On the PC, whenever you log out of the game, your level/item progress is supposed to save (some have reported issues, but that's how it usually works). However, quest progress is not saved, so turn in quests before logging out or you may have to start them over. 'Safe zones' are any location where friendly NPCs are standing around.
Don't use knives, as a general rule, except to throw. They don't do much damage, have terrible reach, and break quickly. In the beginning of the game, pipes and paddles work pretty well, and even if you do get some talents for edged weapons, don't turn down a good blunt weapon until you've got a good supply of blades to switch between.
Stamina is not the same as health. When you do any action (such as attacking or jumping) a bar will appear in the bottom-middle of your screen that will deplete with every action, then fill up as soon as you stop. That's stamina, and getting more is generally a good thing, though Purna needs it somewhat less than others since later in the game she will have plenty of firearms, which don't use stamina. Purna has no health regen.
Yeah, having some range on my weapons is definitely proving to be important. I found a few decent pairs of brass knuckles a while back, and eventually abandoned them in favour of some bats, a hammer (that's a bit short ranged but hits like a truck so I keep it around) and a mace I bought from a vendor for like 6 grand and have yet to actually use due to the expected bill for repairing it compared to what I'm currently finding/earning, but figure I'm due to break it out and start wrecking things in the face with it shortly.
First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER!

Now if only I could work out where half there stuff is, ie: post processing etc.
Machettes are the lords of sharp weapons. Even a white handmade one will greatly increase your killing potential. They are the perfect balance of range, stamina usage, durability, and chopping potential. All other edged weapons bow down to the mighty machette (save maybe katanas, I haven't gotten to use those yet except on my sam b game and he had 0 reason to use a katana, he's sam b not the fucking black samurai).
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
Favorite mods? I've mostly been rolling with electric as the knife chick. Thinking about trying out some new ones. Any suggestions? Got a couple of the developer ones at level 24.

my sam b has two watakashi swords and a katana. they do the bulk of my killing, and then i use blunt two-handed weapons on thugs and tougher enemies. bladed weapons are just too good to pass up, especially when even a blue one can do 1100 damage with a mod.

Hilarious my friend had that exact issue with the same escort. I never did because I cut every fucking zombie I see.
And on Sam B no way would I give up my durability+ weapons to use some sword. The pick of destiny with magic wand is a one hit kill on most zombos anyway.

Many of the weapon mods have the similar effect of occasionally 'paralyzing' an enemy, either because they are flailing due to being on fire, spazzing with electricity, or puking due to the mod that is actually called Paralyzing. The main difference between them really is that the last one only affects your victim, while the other two have something of an area effect, which can also hurt you.
I've begun to realize that a LOT of the damage I'm taking in Act 2 comes from my own weapon effects hurting me when they are on a zombie and I don't realize it because I'm trying to fight another zombie in the crowd. Still love them though, I can't help myself.
