July went a 10 pool vs 14 pool, did zero damage. Masses lings at low eco while getting a fast baneling nest, takes out Losira's expo. July gets an expo of his own but after losing a few ling/bane wars Losira kills it. Losira has kept his drone lead and doubles July's supply. July gets roaches first, Losira walks a handful of banelings into them for no reason but has re-expanded. July tries a final all in with roach/ling/bling while Losira's ling counter kills all but five drones. Losira holds the all in with spines and roaches.
My friends sucked me into this game and so I came here to learn more about it. Um....so, is there a way to enjoy/be good at this game without being creepy about the pros who play it or is that kind of a prerequisite.
You could not know there is a pro scene and still get good at the game and have fun doing so.
Really the key to getting good is realising that the most important skill in the game is spending your money and making workers, and having fun is about enjoying the competition of the ladder, or enjoying the people you play with outside of it, or both.

My buddy told me to learn the 4 gate rush and profit, I have been practicing the build order, but if I don't win in the first 8 minutes I just start twiddling my thumbs.
Rub pictures of Whitera on your body to improve your macro.
That was my ticket into Masters.
The best way to get better at the game is to never all-in until you're at least in platinum. Seriously focus on almost nothing but making workers, expanding and improving your army. Make sure you have detection out to scout weird shit and just build a huge army. Eventually when your opponent attacks you and loses because his macro was worse, you rank up. Tada.
I'm still not sold that Protoss is the race for me, part of me wants to pick zerg and devote myself to it because everyone says it's the hardest for new players.
Also my terran friend likes to own me with a really early marine/maurader/medvac rush like it's stil 2010. How do I hurt him?
What league are you in? If you're below diamond, the only advice when anyone is sending any units at you is "macro better"
If you don't like just protoss, playing random is an option. If you really want to get better I'd recommend picking one race and sticking to it though.
Oh that's easy then. Play random. Have fun. Focus on economy (workers/expanding) and building enough production buildings to spend all your money. That's it. If you like one race more pick it. Otherwise keep playing random.
I never forget that Mig. In fact, when I hurl swears and insults at all-inning Terran it's all I think about.
I think my favorite thing about Artosis is that whenever someone asks him a direct question if it's not a joke or he's not giving a joke response he makes a serious effort to give the most genuine answer he can.

"One EMP on all those archons, and that's going to be it"
This is actually a lie, that's not how EMP works in SC2
It's Tasteless-is-wrong day. Archons suck en masse versus Terran because bio just kites them all day (and they're shit versus mech) and the few in front barely get any attacks in. "I hope my opponent has a heart attack, doesn't move his units and I can encircle his army entirely" is not the best strategy.
There's a difference between Snipe, the ability, and snipe, shooting something out of the sky before anyone can do anything about it.
Ghost only have 6 range and do 10 (+1/upgrade) damage to a warp prism since it's not light. Storm range is 9. Unless he EMP'd the prism and got 3 clusters of shots off in a row in it from his 4 ghosts it wasn't happening. Again, opponent has a heart attack, etc.

arghhhhh whyyyyy
HongUn opens stargate, plays it badly, but still forces Losira to make hydras.
Then he decides to not make units good against hydra/ling.
My sense of identity has returned!

So when I noticed "hmmm, this sure is a long break" and reset the GOM player, the game was over ='/
July GG's and I question my priorities.
proxy that stargate
e: Btw, thanks for the July/Losira summary 815.
1/1/1.
I am surprised.
He's writing a post as we speak
The probe losses might have been too much even if he did, though.

Ugh, no tasteless, you can't snipe a warp prism.
how didnt that work?
It's simple 815165: When a Protoss fucks up an engagement, he loses the game. When a Terran fucks up an engagement, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

EDIT:
That's, what, 100 free damage on how many archons? That would have ended that fight before it started.

Probably about 2? They're pretty fat.
sigged. with a bit of paraphrasing.
