Getting the PC version of Resident Evil 2 running under Windows 7 - suggestions?

I'm unable to install the game to my PC. Whenever I try, or whenever I try to change the save file directory, the game spits up this error message:
Unable to find the file. Please reboot and try again.

Clicking the "Okay" button only makes the error reappear, and I have to close the autorun application using the Task Manager.

The obvious solution - running the game in compatibility mode - doesn't work. None of the other information I've found online have been able to help (this FAQ is incredibly helpful, but doesn't cover this particular technical issue).

The hope - and it's a bit of a stretch, I will admit - is that someone else here has been able to figure out how to get the game running on their PC. It's silly, but it's also essential for a project I'm working on.

Ah, never mind - got it working. Now I can only hope I got it to recognize the save game folder...
