Anything in the saint's book is free game. It has nothing to do with the plot, though more assassinations won't pop up until you get farther in the game.
It does kinda, actually. I cannot get Stag stuff to spawn anymore.

I think I got a bug in a mission, which sucks.
It's the one where you go in a plane and pick up that pulse-rifle blowing uppy thing and then drop out inside a tank. (because you accidentally blew away the cockpit ) I shot all the STAG-dudes during the fall but then it still said that I should kill them all and I kept falling forever.

Yeah, I miss STAG now that they're gone.

That developer diary in the OP just about sold me a copy. It looks like last generations GTA in a new engine.
Not really. All you need to know is you're the Boss, the leader of the Third Street Saints. They started as a 'noble' gang looking to clean up the streets, led by a man named Julius, who recruited you when you were just the Playa. This was SR1. Things happened, and you were out of the picture for a while.
When you came to, the city was in control of new people and Julius was long gone, the Saints now nothing but an old homie on the way to death row, a few supporters who'd dropped their flags a long time ago, and...You, now that you're back. You proceeded to haul together a new bunch of homies to replace your old crew, and started cutting piece by piece of the city away from the other gangs and into your hands. This eventually led to you taking it to Ultor, a megacorp who was looking to have the entire city and every industry in it in their pocket. This being a videogame, you proved why doing this to your city is a Bad Idea.
Now you own Ultor. You own Stilwater, your home city. You own the Saints, who are huge as fuck. Are you a muscleman, a lardass, a Brit, a Russian Ladyboss, a dark elf, the incredible hulk, a bloodthirsty zombie? That's up to you. Pick one and get crazy. Maybe go do super-plastic-surgery and pick a different one. You have your options.

only thing i can think of is to flip around and look up the other way, although it sounds like you already did, did replaying hte mission give you the same problem? you can select mission retry from the escape options in the pc version

Just unzip the .xtbl file into the same directory as saintsrowthethird.exe.
I've only done minimal testing on this, so things might be broken. In order to make this mod, I just used Gibbed mod tools to unpack the camera file and increase all the default_fov values by about 50%.

I don't know if this has been touched on but I see a lot of concerns about the game's length. Wasn't it revealed that this game had more mainline missions than the second? Because I think the perception of length has to do with how respect was reworked in this game from currency that had to be grinded and spent in order to advance the plot to character experience.
like every mission in SR 2 had a neat, long cutscene, right? and SR2 was a clear and cut "X missions to defeat gang 1, X to defeat gang 2, X to defeat gang 3, and after those thrree are complete, you do the final missions.
in SR:TT you do the intro boss, which happens to be the final boss, then it's some weird fight against the remaining gangs in random orders. Like they're doing some kind of story instead of a systematic order. so it feels like you're just fighting one gang storyline instead of three + final missions

Which seemed kind of odd to me once I realized it, because I had been thinking that Kinsey was the Decker-mission person, Angel the Luchadore-mission person, and Zimos the Morningstar-mission person. I'd run out of Angel missions driving tigers around and was left thinking, "Wait, why aren't we going after the Luchadores now?"
Does anybody else get the feeling that Hulk Hogan was supposed to play Killbane and not Angel? It seems so odd to have that voice coming out of a "little" guy like that.

Yeah, I thought that too, but that's not how it is at all
I mean, you even get some missions from Kinzie about the LUCHADORES, and not about the deckers.
Also, am I the only one bugged by the distribution of missions and characters? What I mean is...
Most missions in the game come from either Kinzie or pierce, actually. Angel has alot, but less than either of those two. Zimos gets very few. I suspect that's because you had already taken out the leader of the morningstar, but still. And Shaundi is BARELY around, actually. I mean, you see her alot in cutscenes, but you barely get any missions from her.
There's a lot of things in the story that didn't feel nearly fleshed out enough, like:
The gangs in general. None of the key gang members really felt like they had much time spent establishing them at all. The Lunchas and Deckers never even really get a proper introduction. Killbane has what, like, one line before suddenly becoming the big bad? Loren and Kiki's deaths had no impact because we didn't get to know them at all.
The Gat thing, obviously. Poorly explained, and treated like an afterthought.
Shaundi's whole deal. It felt like there was an entire character arc missing for her.
Viola just goes from enemy to loyal and accepted Saint like nothing. Some scenes where she's perhaps getting shunned by people like Shaundi, and adjusting to switching sides and so on, would have made her a more interesting character.
The pimp was a pretty pointless character who just kind of shows up, and then just kind of vanishes soon after.
One thing I'm hoping about some of the mission-pack DLCs is that they work on fixing that, exploring some of the elements they couldn't.
Post-gamey spoiler:
If nothing else, more time on Mars will be worth all the moneys.
Oh, question: The season pass gets you the Nyte Blade DLC. Is that an immediate thing, or is that supposed to come out soon or what? I've been planning on buying everything at full price for maximum company support, but I might just grab the pass next paycheck if it's the only way to get that stuff. I need all the things!
Just finished with the "prologue" and I think I'm not going to play any further. I loved Saint's Row 2, but this has just been a non-stop glitchfest for me. I can't begin to count the amount of times a mission has just arbitrarily ended in mid battle; the whole thing feels incredibly unfinished.
And its not like I'm asking for perfection here. Its not a AAA franchise but dear lord, the framerate drops have been atrocious. My personal favorite was the game not making it clear that for gang clearouts you just need to kill the marked ones, even as more enemies pile high. Eventually I tried the next gang clearout (the first one in the game) and the framerate stuttered like a slideshow, a helicopter took me out, and the game nearly crashed. Finally beat it out of pure luck.
And dear lord, the story.
So... huh. I didn't even realize Johnny died in the opening until the characters were supposedly "mourning" him. Later on they talk about them attacking the funeral procession which um... okay, I guess that was on the bridge or something?
Similarly, I didn't even realize the belgian was dead because the cutscene was rather unclear if the ball rolled over him or not. Terribly lame, and I'm someone who actually thought the first two told a decent little gangster yarn.
Is there any cool melee finishers with the purple dildo? If melee weapons don't change your combo attacks then that's rather well... odd.
I would buy this game again over and over until my credit card stopped functioning if they gave me more story missions, if that's what you want Volition you have my sword
Also my fully souped up, modded body, nitrous enabled, black and yellow smart car is far more fun than it has any right to be!
The Emu is the best car. Fact. The Vespa would be the best bike if not for the glorious sound of the Espada. So fun to bomb around town on my special widdle kitted-out gloss black and chrome chopper.
Right now though my main source of gameplay hours is browsing the internet with the game alt-tabbed out, with my huge number of bought properties raking in the cash for me.
First day back to work... first morning since the 15th that i havent hopped out of bed and right into Saints Row. I got the shakes real bad man... This game is, without a doubt, my GOTY. I haven't touched Skyrim or MGS HD or anything else since this game came out.
All gang related combat challenges are mopped up, just gotta grind out some of the other ones. Distance traveled took a while to get the first time... Plowed through all the missions as LatinaBoss(new favorite boss btw, she's awesomely crazy) to complete as much of the challenges as possible and I got a little protip:
DO NOT attempt the final mission without a lvl 4 RPG and "No Ragdoll-explosions" ability. It is an exercise in frustration...
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
Uh oh, I think I may have screwed myself out of one of the assassination targets.
It's a Zimos target, and I'm supposed to go to an area of the city and grab one of a rival pimp's hos to make him appear.
I've driven all over that section of the city and haven't seen anything resembling a ho to grab. (Exdept for one lady dressed up like a slutty cop, but that didn't work)

Actually, any woman works. There's another mission farther on where
You have to not only kill hos, but piss off the syndicate as well (3 stars at least). That one was bullshit because once you piss off the syndicate hos stop spawning and there's syndicate everywhere. And of course when there are hos, there are no syndicate around..
Also, beat the game last night. Loved every minute of it. I also played both endings, but I think I'm going to load an earlier save and do it again because
I did the "happy" ending first, then played again and got the "bad" ending. I'm worried that mission packs (or SR4) will give the option to load a save and I don't want to live in a world where I don't have Gat OR Shaundi. I'll start from an earlier save and do the bad ending first and then the good. I like that it lets you do that so you can get the unlocks from both.
Does anyone know if there's a NewGame+ or anything of the sort so I can keep all my toys/cars/costumes/unlocks from my first play through?
I was in my penthouse lair once facing the elevator; I turned around and for some reason the entire place was suddenly FULL of pallette swapped, overweight hookers.

Is it necessary to play SR 2 before this?

I think that just about covers it.
Would this be the same Ultor as the one from Red Faction (both being Volition games)?
Also, level 50 respect at the beginning of Act 2. Amazing what a VTOL does to your bottom line.
"...only mights and maybes."
That doesn't seem very short to me.

Now I REALLY need the season pass.
I don't even have the choice because THQ/Steam in the UK is being silly and doesn't list SR3 or the DLCs for sale
I have access to a US and EU proxy but since all my payment options are from the UK steam won't accept them.
If anyone wants a £20 game from steam in exchange for the Season Pass DLC I would be much obliged 8->
I might be able to pull something off on Friday when I get my damn paycheck. I make no guarantees, though.
You NEED it for the bike! I feel like Tetsuo on this thing! Kaneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeedddddddddddddddddddddaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
