I am pretty sold on this movie, I think it was smart to detach from the Alien series, but still having connections for those who care. The special effects look fantastic, in a classic sorta way. Not totally sure about Theron yet, seems like a miscast, but hot damn this looks incredible.
God help me. The Filipino lady who cuts my hair at the barber asked if I wanted a beard trim and I said 'sure'. She cut off an inch of beard! My face is so cold! And so fat!
Oh God! Quick everyone we need to get him to the beard trauma ward. I think he's in shock!
Man, hair crises are the worst. When I was 11 I refused to take off my turquoise Chullo during the day for a solid 2 months because my mom had given me a bad haircut.

Bwhaha, pics please- I need to have some evidence to back up my position of never shaving my beard.
Also that trailer looks pretty damn cool.
Makes me kinda glad James Cameron made a ridiculous amount of money on Avatar- because probably no studio would spend the kind of money this movie look to have if it didn't, given that the last big huge new IP space movie before that was Chronicles of Riddick (I think).
Dammit, I was trying to head off the 'NUH UH STAR TREK CAME OUT THE SUMMER BEFORE NEENER NEENER' comments- though I'd guess Avatar started production before that movie had.
Whatever on both accounts, you know I'm right in any case! If Avatar hadn't come out this movie would be directed by Paul W.S. Anderson type and it would be Aliens Vs Predators Vs Harry From The Harry And The Hendersons You All Remember That Movie Right.
< Also, Santatar. I bet you all thought I forgot, just because I forgot.
Why would they have Paul Anderson direct an Alien prequel what is wrong with you
I think a more appropriate question is why would they have him direct anything.
Naked Milla Jovovich
Fine, I'll let him direct a movie called, 'Naked Milla Jovovich' and that's it.
Also son of a bitch, I've had a book in my amazon.com cart for months now (threw it in there before the move, kinda forgot about it), and in the intervening time it went out of print and jumped from $40 to $150.
Anywho, anyone have any suggestions for lighter reading for my upcoming plane trip/time in Michigan with access to only a Mom computer? I got Reamde and the latest Song of Ice and Fire book, but I could probably go for something shorter and less involved in between those tomes. Terry Pratchett is an option but I've forgotten which of his books I've read and which I haven't. Maybe some classic sci-fi I should get around to reading (though I dunno, do many 'classic sci-fi' books have a sense of levity to them)?
Also, if you're considering Pratchett, well, it doesn't really matter which of his books you've read before because they're always fun to read and re-read. Forever.
I think I've already read all of Chandler's books.
And yeah, Hitchhiker's I've already read like 4 times, was the first thing I got on this Kindle.
Old Man's War I might check out, it's one of those books I've heard the name of but know nothing about.
Also on the classic sci-fi thing, I've never read any Arthur C. Clarke, Heinlein or Bradbury- should I make those a priority to read/where should I start with them?
I probably should too. I've read some Arthur C. Clarke, mostly short stories, but I havn't actually read his most famous stuff. Or Heinlein. Although I don't know if I really even want to read Heinlein (despite liking a tribute to him). I'm not a huge fan of straight military sci fi and I've heard a lot of wacky stuff about his books.
Bradbury is fun though. Vonnegut is great to. Very different ends of the spectrum though.

Heinlein isn't really straight military. One or two books are (Namely Starship Troopers), but he's usually kind of a galactic hippie who's all about free love and orgies.
Atleast, that is what I got from Stranger from a Strange Land (which i thought was pretty awful tbh) and Number of the Beast (which was like reading an acid trip... only less visual and less interesting)

Then you have impeccable taste.
How do you like Dick?
Immature jokes aside, i mean Philip K. Dick. His books Ubik, Flow My Tears the Policeman Said, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, and A Scanner Darkly are all highly recommended by me.
I've read the latter two- liked them, but I have the feeling that I probably would have liked them more had I not seen Blade Runner, and wasn't going in expecting basically Blade Runner: The Book.
(I like Blade Runner. I like saying Blade Runner.)
I think it's going to be my goal to watch all of the Aliens, Predators, and The Thing this next academic quarter...
Also, I really want to play Alien Swarm again now that you've got me looking through Valve's catalog of stuff. Did they every make other maps for it or was it strictly meant to be a modders/custom maps game?

I love Blade Runner too... but the book is just so different from the movie that I had a hard time comparing them and ended up enjoying them separate but equally.

that seems like grounds for legal action
ahahahahahahaha
oh god I'm so sorry
ahahahahahaha
It's basically a prequel to Alien.
yeah, more or less.
It does involve the space jockey and/or its race of aliens. That's all that has been confirmed

That girl never fails to impress me.
it's not new IP.
your argument = ruined

What he's doing to The Three Musketeers hurts me inside.
EDIT: It's really annoying that there are two directors both called Paul Anderson, at complete opposite ends of the talent spectrum.

In a way he already did.

Then if you want something that is similar to straight up classic scifi and has some measure of levity, try Old Man's War.
Its kind of a tribute to Heinlein but it doesn't in any way take itself seriously.

Slaughter House Five, Breakfast of Champions, or Cats Cradle are probably all great choices for light/flight reading.

Already read all these...and if I recall, I did read them all on airplanes.

Welp, I just ordered two Tank plushies at 69% off.
