I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but tac lights aren't this bright during the day in real life.
Not to mention the fact that the intensity of light is an inverse square of its distance from you, but in this game they're pretty much the same brightness at any distance.
(it's not a reality simulator)
And I gotta say I have never been blinded from a long distance by these lights. At longer distances they're just enormous indicators that reveal the enemy
If it's so completely unrealistic, then what is the justification for it then? It certainly doesn't make the game more enjoyable.
It doesn't blind you, but it can completely obscure the person using the tac light.
Which is the whole point of it. It's a tactical light. It's used to obscure you and your squad so the enemy have a harder time putting bullets in you
I have stared into Satan's asshole, and it fucking winked at me.

I hope we're not seriously applying the "realism" logic to a Battlefield game.
This is a series borne out of situations where you could parachute out of a plane in a dogfight, shoot the bogey with a rocket launcher, and then re-enter your aircraft while it tumbles to earth.

No. No.
Tac lights are used to illuminate dark rooms when you're clearing them with your squad, and even then that is only for when they provide better visibility than the NODs you'll be wearing because you only use tac lights at night.

Again, if it's not for "realism", then it must before for "fun" right? How is this more fun?

You asked what the justification for the light was in the game and I just gave you it. It's a tactical addon for your gun which adds depth to the gameplay. I personally enjoy it a lot and I don't suffer much at the end of it either

I really need to try out the light a bit more. I mean,if you couldn't turn it off, I'd say it was a horrible idea, but since you CAN, I think it's a great utensil for winning close combat engagements.

I guess it's because DICE and other people thinks so, dude. Me, I haven't been bothered by it too much over the bemusement of me landing half a dozen shots out of my machine gun only to do about 80% damage, while the other guy shoots me once with an F2000 and I'm suddenly dead.

dudes I just played my first round of this and I have to say: It's fucking awesome.
Anyone else realize that the weird black half-pipe you sometimes see in the Kill-cam is actually the black background with smoke that you see when the round ends?

You know I just picked up on that as well. was a total OOOH moment.
I have to agree with Sladvan and all here. This game has some pretty fucked up stuff, the damage from assault rifles, tac lights*, and auto squads. The auto squads is a big problem, because in the course of three rounds I already ended up in one squad with two campers (1 sniper, 1 other) who weren't even camping in a good spot.
I'm really surprised by how bad this beta is. I could see them fixing it, but this is, thus far less fun than any other BF game I've played.
* Speaking of NODs, that's exactly what this reminds me of, which is getting shit flashed directly at you with NODs on.
Hooooray for the teather glitch...I love having 3 giant fucking rods sticking out of my view showing where my squad members are...and being able to see where all the other teams squads are.
Holy fucking glitchy batman!
Also fix the goddamn crater/ground glitch already DICE.
Yesterday morning my car was broken into, and they tried to take it but couldn't. So now I have to spend my morning taking the car to the shop, instead of playing buggy messy field 3.
I realize this is a beta, but I gotta say this beta has actually put me off the game quite a bit.
I've had some fun moments but the long list of bugs and just general "ugh really?" instances is giving me serious pause about picking this up. Not to mention trying to p[lay with friends has given me a fucking ulcer trying to make it work.
I haven't read this thread much, but is the PC version buggy as well? That would break my heart as my original plan is to pick up a new puter for this game, but after seeing it on 360 I am thinking I am better off saving my cash
So...is it possible to make a squad pregame and join the same game together? I had issues trying to do so the other night but it was right after the 360 outtage so Im not sure if that was the cause.
Game has some bugs though. Im sick of folks clipping through the ground to get to MCOM A in the first stage of the map.
Also, why doesnt EVERYONE spawn as recon to set a mobile spawn on their first life of a stage? C'mon! Mobile spawn followed by support+gernade spamming a MCOM is always a good time.
Ive enjoyed every class so far. Recon seems to be my best cause I can fight close combat with the pistol way easier then the other weapons and long/mid range with starting sniper is just easy mode it seems. I havent tried Engineer yet, are they as pointless as they seem compared to the other 3?
Engineers will be useful on other maps, and the first stage of metro (if they re-introduce the LAV?), where there are vehicles.
Though I do quite like going engineer on the last stage to smash people in the upper floors.
Remember that, in all likelihood, pretty much all of these bugs will be gone at launch!
That's entirely possible. But I'm still going to wait a bit to make sure, just in case it takes them a few months. Was previously on the fence about pre-ordering, but it looks like this nicely makes that decision for me. I may change my mind again if we get another map or mode though.
So Newegg has this for $12 off with promo code EMCYTZT796, am I likely to get a better price anywhere or should I pull the trigger?
KMART will have a $20 off you next gaming purchase voucher with it when it comes out opening week, but that would involve going to the store and whatnot.
Also I think walmart should have a gift card deal soonish
At least you can leave and join new squads if your current squad is too horrible for you
Not really, your pretty much tethered to that squad unless you hit leave/join/leave/join 50 times till it finally cycles you to a different squad.
Oh and good luck joining a game with a squad of 4 and being all on the same team and still in the same squad.

the only bugginess I've noticed so far is the game will crash pretty much every other round. . . but I'm not on the beta drivers yet so that could be a problem on my end. Also, lol at the "you must have beta drivers to play message" then you click OK and it starts the game anyway. It also runs silky smooth for me compared to when I played BC2, but then I was on a Q6600 with 8gb ram back then and I'm on a 2500k with 16gb now same video card though (gtx470 for anyone who cares).
I love that they tightened up the controls to be less like super-floaty-on-ice company 2. They're nice and crispy, much closer to that of battlefield 2 and anything quake 1 through 3 based.
also that they brought back prone, though I'd like to have lean functions as well.

Not trying to call anyone out but both law enforcement and the military are trained to use tac lights the way Neil describes. I have a buddy who works at TDI in Ohio and using a light (even a "non-tactical" flashlight) in the right circumstances can be used to "hide" things behind it. It has to do with the way the eyeball works. DICE is clearly trying to simulate this.
That being said you are right about it being way to bright in the day. As far as I understand it it wouldn't work during the day where the surrounding brightness has already shrunk your pupils to keep out the excess brightness.

They make good target practice.
AAMOF it makes it pretty fucking easy for me to spray in a direction and hit someone.

It's only strong in CQC, and even then if you're fighting indoors you're often giving away your position behind walls etc.
It's more annoying than anything else.

They are forever the best class
EDIT: Wanted to point out that the SCAR sucks tho.
Come to think of it, that probably explains why I'm seeing a far few engineers running around.

"Voice chat and squadding will be on the battlelog side of things"
Good thing is that with enough bitching, we got some changes to the BC2 scoreboard done, so this will hopefully be remedied the same way.
