I wish getting revived removed that death from your score. Whenever I get revived and insta-killed again, it counts as dying twice, which makes me mad.
... Why are you caring about kdr? This isn't deathmatch, the winner is not the one with the lowest deaths.
The general interaction and relationship between players is murder. They're allowed to care about their success in this department, especially when the full product is going to keep close track and extensive record of how good you are at this.
Yes, that's kills. Not deaths. You're not worse at murder if you have more deaths. If anything someone with 2 deaths in a game is probably not helping their team secure mcoms.
Edit: There is no problem in tracking deaths, or even talking about deaths or whatever. But it is weird to get "mad" over quirky death counts when deaths don't really matter that much. Kills and points do though.
Deaths do matter, as they measure your consumption of team resources (tickets), and thus your efficiency. Sure kills and points are more important, but dying involves loss of a ticket and loss of valuable time which could be used killing mans, healing buddies, and securing objectives. Plus, I like my KDR high, dammit!
In 2142, your death only counts once your revive window closes and you are forced to respawn. They should go back to this. They should also track teamwork score separately, as they did in 2142, so you can more easily identify the useless hill humpers.
Deaths matter. Your kdr is a poor indicator of your skill in a game like battlefield. It's very hard to get huge amounts of kills, it's not very hard to get a fair kdr. And bragging rights is what we're talking about in the end no? I could never tell my friends to suck it because I have lower deaths than them. I won't be proud to have 4 deaths in a round because I never took any risks either.
To each their own obviously, but it's still weird to get mad at death counts when they aren't even necessarily an indicator of ticket usage.
I bought medal of honor so I could get my exclusive access to the BF3 beta and wag my butt at everyone and brag about it.... then they gave it to everyone :P
Anyways... the shit just doesnt run well on my computer... I can play pretty much every ther game in existance at high settings but this one is funky... Im holding out hope its just the current build. The main issues are:
*Everything seems sluggish and sometime repeats... Theres a lag almost in everything my avatar does... sometimes Ill hear gunshots and then like 10 seconds later drop dead. This makes it really hard to kill anything.
*When im scoped sometimes the entire scope on my screen dissapears and reappears.
*Sound fucks up constantly.
Anyone with a beefy rig experience these problems or should I dishonor my family and buy it on a console?
knowing your computer specs might help us out a bit
(I have the dual core proccessor... not the quad core)
The dual core is probably your biggest issue. As I understand it BF3 does make use of 4 cores in a significant way. I have heard that the sound effects are a not insignificant part of the load to the way they are calculated. That may account for the sound issues. That 260 M isn't anything to write home about either.

Yeah, but when 2/3's of your death is due to hit detection issues (there was a game where none of my hits registered at all) and other glitches...it just get frustrating.
Oh well, here's to release. Hopefully it'll be a much more polish product by then.
Well, I tried to like it but this just isn't my play style.

I think you mean Quake 3
also, finally got BF3 to stop crashing, then two hours in it slaps me upside the head with a BSOD.
Alas it was not meant to be. However, my recon rampages are getting a lot better. It usually culminates in me doubling behind the enemy assault force and then shooting them in the back of the head with my pistol as I stand over them majestically. Seriously, people have zero situational awareness. And I want my REX.
I also just came across someone using the DAO12 with dart rounds. Ogods it was glorious to behold.

To expand on that. Your computer meets the minimun system requirements, but does not meet the recommended. You should be able to play the full game if you set everything to low, but do not expect to be able to crank the settings with a 3/4 year old laptop. Sorry.

Can you update the video drivers on it? That sounds like the source of a lot of these issues.
The problem: The more i play it, the better i am at it. The better i am at it the more i die to bugs. The more i die to bugs the less fun it is and the more frustrating it is. Its no fun when you just die to bugs and poor netcode.
Also seen two aimbots so far. These guys weren't even hiding it. Alas no PB on beta
Also about the last assault unlocks in beta atm if anyone wants to know:
It's the two starting weapons
The M412 REX, MP7 and 93R aren't available as well.

Yeah, this is exactly what happened to me. Hence, ya'll better buy the game and let me know if the release is not so damn buggy.
I wouldn't mind rez just flat out not working if that position is still under direct fire but I think that would be hard to implement
I haven't played BF3 yet so tell me if I'm wrong but...
Could we not kill two birds with one stone by saying "Medics cannot revive while suppressed"? Yes, no, maybe?
Since rezzing is already hugely nerfed since BC2, this would kill it. No medics would run out to try and save you/a ticket if all they'd need to fail was a single bullet missing them. It would be super hard now that you've only got a short window to defib someone.
That prevents plausible rezes as well. You can be behind cover without any danger and be unable to rez because some stray bullets 2m away just suppressed you.
Note that you can only be rezed once.
Also note that suppression doesn't blur the whole screen, it simple does a cone around the center, so you still have full sight on the iron sight. This allows snipers to peek and snipe the support/other class that is supressing.
Edit: so it looks like that some weapons have two requirements, they require rank + X score, or class score + X score. Didn't notice that before.

I don't think the CPU is that bad a bottleneck. I'm running the game very smoothly at 1680x1050, everything on high, and I only have a Core 2 Duo (E8400 @ 3.0 GHz). A GTX 460 and 4 GB of RAM rounds out my specs. No overclocking, and using the latest release drivers rather than the beta drivers that supposedly increase BF3 performance. I'd look more to the video card as the bottleneck, so perhaps the beta drivers might help a bit? And perhaps updated sound drivers as well. I have a sound card instead of using the onboard, so maybe that's why I'm not experiencing the sound bugs. Not sure

Nope. I'm 54 and have that amount of points, and I've yet to unlock any of it. The REX/MP7/RATFUCKER can't be unlocked in the Beta. The same applies to the M39 EBR and the last two Assault unlocks, the G3 and Sig.

When you're suppressed, your shots are less accurate. I've saved myself plenty of times by returning fire on someone who had me suppressed, suppressing THEM, and getting behind proper cover. And I seem to get countersniped a lot less when using the suppression perk, so anecdotally suppression seems to be at least somewhat helpful.
I feel the accuracy penalty for being mostly or fully suppressed could be a little higher though. I'm fine with the amount of visual blurring they've added...much more and it would just be too annoying when even stray bullets hit near you.
I hope they address rambo recons running around with no scopes one/two shotting peeps. It's kinda annoying to run into the rambo recons in this game who go all out with this method. Don't get me wrong, its effective, but its also irritating. I feel that its not working as intended.
Why? Recons are SUPPOSED to be ahead of the force picking people off and getting shit done. I've been playing Recon this way for a while now because back in the day when the class was called special ops, that was kinda the entire point of the class. Then they went and merged it with the sniper class and suddenly everyone forgot that Recon was supposed to be a precision problem solver. They started camping on hills a mile away and doing fuck all. Now with the scope glint added and a bevy of red dot semi-auto rifles/universal SMGs at our disposal, there's really no reason for the Recon class not to be the vanguard force pushing ahead and shitting squad beacons all over the map. In a defensive situation, the Recon should be running around and countering anyone trying to be a sneaky git. I'm not saying that the Recon shouldn't occasionally play at being an overwatch sniper, because it's definitely a handy thing to do at times but it's definitely not their main role.

I think the complaint more stems from how overpowered the starter sniper rifles are than from the class going solo behind enemy lines. There's just not enough downside to the starter sniper rifles not to use them as better assault rifles. They fire fast, kill in generally 2 hits or less, and have seemingly no more movement penalty than any other assault rifle.
For people experiencing crashes to the desktop: I switched to Chrome to decrease the RAM used and the game hasn't chrashed nearly as often as with Firefox.

Please note that a desktop 460 is about 40% faster than a desktop 260. Also, mobile GPUs and CPUs are around 10% to 20% slower than their desktop companions. Also, the e8400 is a good deal faster than any of the CPUs stocked in that notebook.
I hate to break it to you, but your laptop is simply not going to be able to play BF3 on high. You should be able to manage low settings.
