Thank god they lowered the bullet damage and/or changed the netcode. That part of the Beta was the sole reason why all the hype I had for the game died when I played the Alpha. The hype just sunk farther into its grave when I tried the Beta for a few hours. From what the devs are tweeting, it seems like they're shooting for 3-6 chest shots to kill at medium-ish range, which is about 1 bullet less than BC2's softcore mode.
Can we please not use this word. Goddamn. This is not a nice, relaxed porno.
I would play a softcore shooter!
So what word would you have us use instead? flaccidcore? droopycore? limpcore? notquitethathardcore?
So he says lethality is back to BC2 levels (which is apparently a bad thing with most of you, since y'all lauded the beta's hilariously buggy lethality) and says virtually nothing about the other, myriad issues that bedeviled us during beta/preview/whatever-the-hell.
This provides no information about the circumstances of his playtesting or anything. All this confirms is that DICE is promising radical, untested changes for release.
And with DICE's track record, that can only mean great things!
It's not like DICE or EA has a super giant Q&A team working through bugs... Crash7800 had stated that the only purpose of this beta was backend and battlelog testing with a large scale audience.

Seeing as hardcore is the deviation from the norm, how about we just call it regular, or battlefield?

Hardcore to be renamed to Deviants.
CorriganX on Steam and just about everywhere else.

I don't know about you, but I would liken my experience playing Battlefield to that of watching pornography. Loud, explosive, chaotic pornography.
I really hope they don't actually change the damage model. It was perfect the way it was.
Agreed. While it might have seemed overkill at times in Metro in Caspian, with the much wider spaces, it felt perfect.
Yeah, I spent the last few hours of the beta essentially sniping people with the M27 and RPK, and it made me realize how much I like the way they had it set up.
Oops, someone phone the fucking army. Apparently, video games are exactly the same as real life in every sense!
All that time they waste on training, they could save a fortune.
The point is, the more lethal weapons don't render tactics and coordination useless as he says. In fact they make them much more important, since charging head on will likely just get you murdered.
His point on reflexes is also complete fucking bullshit, since more survivability gives the "tactically challenged" greater opportunity to use superior reflexes/connections to circle strafe and bunny hop around like PCP addled lunatics.
Of course you're completely ignoring that... so what we have here is you having a go at me just for the sake of having a go. Whatever, come at me bro.
The other thing a day and a half on Caspian taught me is to never ever take a tank anywhere that cuts your 360-degree visibility to less than about 15 ft, or any halfway-intelligent support is gonna ruin it.
I just wanted to apologize if you were on the shit end of my jet while you were still parked on the runway. I really wanted to see those air to ground missiles before beta end and in my blood lust some might have suffered.
It was considerably harder to level up the jet in the later days of caspian, once everyone had stingers and the AA missiles. The only decent points were getting a chopper before the people had a chance to bail out

Don't forget the few of us chopper riding assholes who intentionally rolled with heatseekers loaded for the sole purpose of counter-trolling jets.

This right here.
Decreased lethality doesn't reward anyone in the long run, and it sucks out much of the tension.
Sounds like a bullshit reason for making the guns less lethal. Half of the fun (for me anyway) were the oh shit moments I had because I was pinned down due to a couple people rushing hilltop. Had the guns done less damage, I might've just ran in screaming and firing away with my shotgun.

Truth. Going from BF3 to BC2 made me feel like I suddenly had super powers. I got REAAAAAAAAAALLY ballsy with how hard I'd rush people (and it usually worked )
If they want to reduce the lethality all they have to do is fix the netcode.
Really? What part is difficult? Not going from 100 to 0 health before you register a single hit? Not dying while you're completely behind cover? Not having to deal with a handful of prone wankers camping your sole spawn point (Metro)?
I'm just wondering because I went back to BC2 and am having a blast. The people I shoot die, the bullets hitting me register, and I have to deal with 1/10th the sniping/camping.

It helps prevent camping, particularly on consoles. You cannot afford to run a "Goldilocks" sensitivity if it means you die before you can react more often than not.
I thought BC2 worked pretty well, honestly. You didn't fall over dead if someone looked at you wrong, but you didn't need a whole magazine to kill anyone with aimed fire either.

Lethality for BC2 on consoles was higher than on PC.
You won't need extra time to react if you strive to maintain situational awareness and move from cover to cover like you should in any FPS.
Edit: If your play style demands that you receive a warning and given ample time to react before you die, then you need to rethink your play style. You should constantly be checking behind you and on your guard for anyone to round the corner in front of you. Decreased lethality only allows you to be careless while decreasing tension and engagement ranges. With lethality as it was in the beta you can get into firefights with nearly anyone you can see which keeps the pace/tension consistently high, and allows the buildings and micro terrain features to be more than just set pieces (I'm ignoring the fact that much of the rocks didn't have hitboxes yet, because we've been promised they will in the retail version).

I have to be honest, that lethality reveal has reduced my hype for the game to about half of what it was before.
I really don't want to have to put 7-8 bullets into a guy and I will scream at my monitor if the game becomes "I just flanked 3 people. I can MAYBE take down 2 before I am out of bullets and the third kills me" again.

My hype level is 0
I don't hype for anything except the chance to have sex with an attractive member of the opposite sex and even then, meh
granted the demo was a disappointment and I doubt DICE's "capable" hands are going to able to fix the game so hey maybe that has something to do with it

The beta was great for me. I had a shit ton of fun and the only problem was the "sprint damage" bug.
If they left it as it was I would be happy, but NOPE they gotta change everything and fuck the game over.
*sigh*

Yeah, one thing I'll say in favor of the demo was that damage was spot on (provided you consider a bug-free situation—sprint bug and all that noise was awful but hilarious).
The hit detection was balls though
whose fucking idea was it to have client-side hit detection
really
fucking swedes

Someone else said they were shooting for about 5-6 bullets for a kill. So, not as bad. More lethal than BC2, but not too lethal. I like this.

Lethality more like BC2 sounds good to me. Gives everyone who doesn't have skillz but still loves Battlefield a bit more room for error. It's fair, and I think for most people it will be more fun. It's not a big difference, and it's certainly not game-breaking.

The problem I found was that with lag and the client side hit detection even though I knew I only had to shoot 2 bursts to kill someone I ended up firing a hell of a lot more because even though they were probably already dead, they hadn't died on my screen yet.

Fuck it right up it's pathetic bullet spongy ass.
Time to go back to " 1 clip per enemy, if you see two enemys, you will lose" mentality.

oh that's right i forgot telling it like it is bothers some people
I also don't believe in god
I mean, yeah, it makes you look "edgy" and like you are "smarter than the fools who believe the shit DICE says" but still, le dumb.
I treat you like an idiot, I can call you an idiot?
Cool! I am now free to call everyone names!
Just because you stick it in her butt does not mean it's a vagina.

if a man hands me a butt and tells me it's a vagina, it doesn't mean it's a vagina
Edit: regardless of whether or not I stick anything in it
Edit2: and what dice handed out was most definitely a butt
