Crits aren't anything more than a shot that deals double damage. Dealing more crits is worth precisely as much extra damage it gives you, which is not much. It may WORK for you, but pure damage or rate of fire would work BETTER.

    this game is fun :D

    More people should play it.

Looks like the initial influx had died away. So what better time to join up and make it easier for me to start a game :P

Seriously though it looks like the devs are gonna shift the game back into a beta stage while they introduce things like the match making system. Looking forward to it.

This hit Steam and really intrigues me so I thought I would bump it. Anyone playing or planning on playing? Everything about this looks great (the TB video sold me) but concerned about no AI to practice against....

I as well saw this on Steam and was interested, but a bit afraid of what the community was like... anyone playing it still?

I saw a kid get handed a JB poster by who I presume was his parents outside my store today....he tore it in half infront of his horrified parents.....There's hope for our youth yet!

Well despite the no AI I'm definitely interested. The forums are all in french so I'm guessing that means no community? Being told "you suck" in French doesn't seem as bad....

i guess, i just played a 2v2 game, and i got all the mechanics explained to me. It's actually quite fun.

Ok I think I'm down. How long did a game take and how hard was matchmaking?

game took about an hour, and matchmaking is atrocious. I got paired with the #2 ranked spot in the game, and he just told me what to do. Carried me to victory. I was a DPS destroyer, and I could essentially instagib one of the opposing enemies.

I played this in the Beta some. I want to support them, but they just can't figure out a proper way to make money in a field full of F2P behemoths (LoL, Dota2, HON, DOTA). I would of played it more, but none of my friends could break their LoL addiction sadly.

10$ 4pack seems really good to check it out. Anyone down? Wait, that's for the game + DLC ~ 4 items not 4 pack :P So, I still have to judge.

Is this essentially Space DOTA? The videos were pretty but I couldn't tell what was going on.

Grabbed this and played it a bit. Its interesting. It definitely could use some more polish, but yes its basically space dota with less focus on towers. Trying to decide between the dreadnought and cruiser. Rolling with shield/hull heal, rockets and the homing missile.

So far it seems the base ships are pretty balanced. The artillery ship is useless in a 3v3, it takes too long to aim in, and you do the same damage as the main gun of the dreadnought, but they can see your shot and dodge it.

Be aware that equipment is not trade-able between ship types.

I picked this up today and only got to play one round, but it was pretty fun. I like the navyfield aspect, but the moba side left some to be desired. The game was 3v3 and dragged on for about an hour fifteen, even after one of the guys on my team dropped around minute 45. The game was decided in the first 15 anyway but just kept on going

Still, I like the concept enough that I'll try to put in some more time and see how things progress.

Yeah the games really feel like they take too long, especially since it seems to be whoever gets the first few kills wins. I like the idea of the game, but the dota aspect really kind of ruins it for me. Might be, because I can't get into anything higher than 3v3, but it seems like your best bet is taking a dreadnought and spamming missiles to knock people out quickly. Trying to play support/recon/artillery is just asking for your team to lose against people who know what they are doing.

Also I would recommend for win rewards; Get the gun of your choice, then get medals to give passive skills. Then worry about the ammo and hull slots.

  • AvynteAvynte Registered User regular
Oh nice, I didn't know that's what medals did.

Just finished a 2v2, cruiser (me) + dread vs. two frigates. It was an absolute stomp from the first 30s for us, and still took 40 minutes to grind through the turrets + respawns. Oh well.

On a different note, the minion damage is taking some getting used to. They sure are strong compared to LoL

I'm in, Dyvion is my name so please add me. I'm using a Carrier right now. Tried fighters and bombers last run with a scout ship (stealthed, woo) and countermeasures? Didn't use that much. I swapped countermeasures for force field. Was in a 2v2 and both opponents had force fields which rendered my fighters and bombers useless.

Assault ships do critical damage so that should help the fighters do more damage on their strafing runs.

And I need to remember to turn off my engines. Ugh.

e: So my second game didn't go nearly as poorly. Although I didn't get a lot of use out of the force field. Probably if I went against another carrier it would be more useful... I'm trying out Escort ships for my next go. Fighters are very effective... So fighters, Escorts, The stealthed recon jobber and force field.

Although I really want to try out the support ship. I'm a fan of turrets.

It's definitely MOBA in space. There are currently 8? ship types. I believe. Corvette, Frigate, Artillery, Carrier, Support... and two others. You capture objectives and eliminate the enemy ship waves that are sent against your objectives.

Additionally, there is an enhancement system for rewarding multiple plays. You get to choose a type of item after a match, and get a random item to add to your ship. You can't trade items between ships though, they're ship specific.

Corvette, Frigate, Cruiser, Dreadnought, Artillery, Carrier, Support.

Corvette and Frigate are the light recon/fast movers. These are good at backdooring capture points. They are decent at spiking, and ok at team fights. Run the hell away if your opening barrage doesn't kill/cripple them.
Cruiser is the armor tank/medium range dps.
Dreadnought is the hp tank/long range dps.
Artillery is a shitty dreadnought (It might be good with more players, but I have never been able to play more than 3v3). The main problem with it is you can see where the shot is coming before it hits, so if you pay attention it's really easy to dodge. It also only does the same amount of damage as one of the dreadnoughts guns, with a longer range.
Carrier is decent, its a dreadnought that replaces its guns with powers that release ships. Honestly you are better off taking a dreadnought and using missiles though from my experience.
Support I haven't played yet, looks like a dreadnought with less firepower, and some neat looking powers.

Plasma guns give your shots AoE.
Protons let you snipe while stealthed/in a cloud.
    Disruptive apply a snare.
Electromagnet apply a skill recharge debuff.

I have no idea what ballistic weapons do differently. Basically if you are firing lots of fast firing, disruptive or electro are your best bet. If you are using slow firing heavy damage plasma is good because you can kill waves really fast, and even if you miss you still do damage. Proton is pretty circumstantial.

    Just going to post this.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mAN9zDYumM&feature=plcp&context=C4c42f65VDvjVQa1PpcFPmU4rYsxQ0vSAeaJNLEICbcks8ka3XOzs%3D

I downloaded the, at the time, free client after seeing that, and ended up buying the game soon after.

Now, the problem is that I haven't played the game for many months so I don't know how relevant any info I can give is. Also, the only other Moba game I have played is Monday Night Combat.

Back when I played the most common games were 5v5 and I would agree that they are much better than 3v3. Even more fun is 6v6 on one of the big maps. I stopped playing before the first dlc ship was introduced, the Support ship, but I remember there was talk that the deployable turret was a bit OP.

Even back then is was a problem that a game that was won in the first 15min generally still took an hour to complete, but most people knew when to use the surrender button.

Corvette. Scout, it's meant to give vision on the enemy and cap any lightly defended points.
Frigate. The rogue of the game. Best used to hunt down escaping enemies and generally give the last bit of damage to someone that thought they were about to get away safely.
Destroyer. Damage dealer. Don't for a second underestimate how fast you can die to a Destroyer piloted by someone that know what they are doing.
Cruiser. Tank. Don't fly this and think you're a Destroyer. Your role to to soak up a lot of damage.
Dreadnought. Support. Long range dps as you need to get away very fast as soon as the battle is turning since you just don't have the speed to escape if you wait a few seconds too long. I don't know if they fixed Command Field, but a Dreadnought could keep this up 90% of a battle and give a huge CP boost to anyone nearby. The Escort ship ability should never be taken, as it doesn't really protect as much as you think at first and it gives a CP boost to your enemy. I actually targeted an enemy' escorts before the ship to get the CP.

I mostly/only played a Dreadnought hence why it is the only one actually described in detail.

Experienced players have a huge advantage over new one, and not just because their ships are a higher level. Combat isn't really as intuitive as you think at first, and most ships have to be used in a specific way to be optimised. I have been in 5v5 battles where two of the opponents players dc'ed and the two experienced players on the opponents team made the game un-winable for us in about 10mins.

I just picked this up. Good times incoming!

Edit: My first game was really fun! Everyone was rank 0 and no one stood out as being completely terrible. The strategic nature of battles made everything very interesting. The videos of the game are a good representation of what to expect, except for the lag/stutter you see in TotalBiscuit's video - that has been fixed. I recommend it!

    Man this game is fun!

The last patch appears to have fixed the server issues. I played all evening during prime time and never had a problem.

Was there a recent patch? I was playing with 370ish people the other night with no problems. Hopefully they have things sorted and I can start recruiting my friends.

I've only played the carrier so far, just got it to Mk2. I'm thinking of branching out to other ships. The support is a natural second choice, due to the similar mechanics (using other items) but I think I want to go a more traditional route. (There are a lot of people running support).

I was looking at the cruiser. One heavy gun and one medium gun mounted on turrets in the front, two light guns on each side and one medium on a ... vs. the 5 light guns on the carrier. Do the heavy/medium guns pack way more of a punch than 5 light guns?

Yes, they do. But I can't remember if it is normalised with the reload times. The biggest advantage with the large guns is the range and alpha damage.
