It's even more puzzling on my side because really, I don't know WHY they surrendered - the enemy jax said something like "gay team" when I wasn't aware teams, not the persons in them but the TEAM itself, could have a sexual orientation. From my solo top point of view, the only reason a surrender was a good idea is they couldn't stop me from farming no matter what they did - when they surrendered I had something like 170 CS and around 5k gold unspent, the only guy who had more total gold than I was our Xerath who had nearly all the kills of our team. Even then it wasn't much, we were in the lead but nothing you couldn't come back from, ten kills to five, two towers to one.
It was a pity because I honestly don't recall having a better time last hitting than today.

Lost 5v4 after 75 minutes. I managed to get my team back together, but they decided to be stupid and not wait for the opposing team to attempt Baron. Naturally the ONE game where the opposing team has a leaver, we lose.
Play a second game, and I knew things would be bad when Cait leaves me (Taric) and goes bot while Veigar lanes with me. Oh, and he gets dick for CS. Much better to to use weakass Qs and Ws on Singed. Despite this, we manage to get a few kills in top and pretty much win our lane. But the other two lanes fall apart.
So just awesome stuff all around.

i don't really get swain's changes actually. I'm owning after he's been nerfed repeatedly - was me doing poorly with before the nerfs just one of those cases of people not really 'getting' a champ?
That's precisely it. They just changed how much healing his ult gives you pretty much, so it's just that you now possess a working knowledge of his style of play.

Well, you see, no one plays him, so no one knows what he does. Then he skullfucks someone in lane and they're like o_O. Like, they might understand the basics of don't get caught in Nevermore, but they probably don't expect the Torment chip or just how badly he'll win an ult trade so long as his is running

Depends on the champ. Trundle is usually jungling, so he only needs a certain amount of Arpen and then the rest could be AD. However, only his bite has the AD scaling, so he could get away with more Arpen or even AS.
A champ with crazier scaling like Pants or Riven probably wants AD.
It also depends what you're going to buy. If you intend to get a LW, less benefit to the Arpen you have. If you're going for something like Ghostblade/Stark's/BC, then yeah go ahead and stack it.
Champions that scale well with AD will usually take AD quints and armour pen marks. Some champions that scale really well (0.9/1.0) might take AD marks too.
Also certain junglers might take just enough armour pen to reduce monsters to 0 armour and make the rest AD or AS, in order to maximise jungle speed.

I'm running full ArPen right now, but I think I'll switch my quints to AD, it'd probably make Trundle's jungle a bit faster, and I bet Talon would benefit from the early damage too

Being about to hit 20 myself, it seems if you should have a ArPen and MagicPen page, and that armor is never a bad purchase as it works with both , and will be beneficial on about any of the champs when jungling.
Sound about right?
I think I'm about 8 games for 20. 450xp or so away. Think I'm at 18k IP

You can't really go wrong with buying a full set of armour pen and magic pen marks, and then flat armour seals and flat magic resist glyphs. That will give you two generalised (AD and AP) rune pages to use with any champ you play until you can afford to lay out some specialised pages. You can round those out with +AD quints and +AP quints.
With 18k IP I would advise you splash out on an additional rune page, assuming you only have the base 2 at the moment. 6300 ip just for another page hurts but you really will need at least 3 by level 30 if you don't want to get annoyed by it. Better to just get it out of the way now.

Seriously, what the fuck is with all the 4v5s lately? Being on the giving or receiving end of one of those is never fun. It sucks because I was absolutely rocking ass as Vayne (10/2/2 at the 15 min mark) then one of our team (Cait) left and my score turned to shit, the game turned to shit, and my fun turned to shit.
I hate leavers/afkers. I can understand connection interruptions and brief moments of AFK for phone/bio/wtf but tons of people just fuck off at the first sign of challenge, or if they're getting pushed out of lane or whatever.

edit: this is also why I've been playing so much dominion lately. 4v5s are at least over in 10 minutes instead of 40.

I was closer to 19k than I thought so went and bought a page. I'm also closer to level 20 then I though. Got 150 for the last 2 games. Maybe 2 quick dominion games.
Had a great game last game even though I went 2/4/4 as brand. Pushed around ez mid. Made him spend some money on health pots and mostly farming at will. Did trade one death when I missed my Q. Their jungle shaco got me a few times though. One time I thought I could burst him down and somehow failed.
Also tried to clear a creep wave a once by shaco. Ate boxes, died. One time followed near dead shaco into a group of boxes and died.
...
But our jungle fids was on the ball. Calling out respawn times, controlling dragon, ganking. We lost some towers, mainly die to frikken shaco. But even though we were down they quickly surrendered. We had a huge gold and kill advantage. Me and fiddles were stacked with ap.

Deathfire Grasp is #1 Swain item. Then spellvamp. Zhonya's is #3, or #4. Spellvamp is very useful for sustain on Swain. His passive keeps you up on mana. Your school is not better than my school.

So why is it that Yorick guides almost all seem to recommend flat AD marks over armor pen? Is it for the boost to early sustain, or does he just not get that much out of armor pen?

Uh. The only power of Swain's that gives decent spell-vamp is, well... Given that he's all DoTs, it's only good to keep his health up while farming, and honestly, pulsing his ult for a couple of seconds on minion waves is fine for that. It's not going to keep you alive in a teamfight due to the nature of burst damage.
I dunno. My usual Swain build is Rod of Ages, Merc Treads, Deathcap, Zhonya's, Abyssal, with the last items as the most relevant defense item depending on teamcomp, or a Rylai's for general bulk+hilarious ultimate slow. I've had great success with this. I've never gone with a Will of the Ancients or a Deathfire Grasp. Am I in actual fact Doing It Wrong?
Did a solo botmatch with Teemo to get a feel for his abilities, then dove into SR.
Not too shabby. I had a severe case of "AAAAH what do I buy" so my items are all over the place. Decided for a BT before a Mandred's Bloodrazor for some reason.
My only death was a Teemo duel in mid at the start. Damn poison.

I can give advice for Pantheon:
Red: Armor Pen
Yellow: Flat mana regen
Blue: Flat magic resist
Quints: Flat damage
this has been my most successful runepage so far. Can exchange the magic resist blues for more flat mana regen if not up against magic damage.
