Hello,
I see these threads come up in various permutations, but not mine: wanna play a game with a gf who is long distance for a while. she has a mbp from 2009 but mac but no mouse right now. On the table are:
1) frozen synapse
2) spiral knights
3) TF2 once she gets a mouse.
any other recommendations?

Starcraft!
Are MMOs a thing you guys would do, or are you looking specifically non-MMO?
I just started playing this cute little game called Glitch, which is browser-based but pretty addictive. It's not really great as a game for teamwork and taking down bad guys, but it's definitely enjoyable to discuss and collaborate.
And it seems like all is dying, and would leave the world to mourn
Starcraft is fun!! Speaking from experience, and I used the trackpad the whole time!
(but make sure you DONT play 1v1, I am so serious, I have never hated my boyfriend more than when we played starcraft against each other and he nuked my base because I didn't understand how ghosts worked. He was also fuming when he underestimated me and I destroyed him with a carefully built army of mutas)
Unless you're both on the same level and/or merciless slaughter of your base doesn't bother you
Also sometimes we'll both play the same game that isn't a multiplayer (like sushi cat) and see who can get the higher score
Then even though its not multiplayer per se, it can still be interactive!

Diablo II is also still fun, if you can put up with the 2001 graphics.
I don't know the specs, but will your computers play Portal 2?

I came in here to recommend Portal 2 as well.

Thanks for the suggestions. I hadn't even thought of SC, I will give it a shot. Playing co op seems better, consistent with your wise counsel. We'll give portal 2 a shot. The problem is that I'd want her to play through portal 1 to appreciate glados properly....
I think we'll avoid MMOs. Too dangerous, if nothing else. TF2 went really well! She figured out the secrets of the pyro fast (wait, all I do is w+1??).
Boot camp the Mac. That opens up the world of steam $10 indie games.
Also from my personal experience shooters can be...iffy. I spent a lot of days after HS let out scriming CS, she had never played a shooter before we tried BFBC2. One of us enjoyed that game much much much less than the other. The.. quirkiness of TF2 probably makes it a decent choice tho.

Browser based games are probably a good bet. MMOs are also probably not bad.
...actually ceres pretty much covered it.

The gf got her own profile when i wasn't paying attention. Going to have to watch the advice I dispense from here on out...
