Two thirds of US aid money for international health projects/programmes/etc goes to HIV/AIDS.
One third is leftover for every single other disease.
Outrageous
how much do your countries send, nerd
No where close to as much money.
Though relatively Sweden gives approximately 0.97% of its GNI whereas the US gives about 0.2%
A target was set in 1969 that all OECD countries would give 0.7% of their GNI
Although one may argue that Sweden's relatively higher amount of international aid is their way of being involved in international politics: not just that we're all lovely people (which we are).
edit: the US used to give about 0.5% of their GNI.
i reacted poorly when my simple complaint about strangers on a subway train being annoying turned into multiple pages of having to defend myself from stupid personal attacks
the reaction i was expecting was "man, yeah, that sucks", not "well Pony obviously you're part of the problem"
so i'm sorry for getting snippy with people, it's just an easy road to hostility when a person gets reacted to like that
so hey hakks depends on when on Saturday
I have work til 6ish but we can have dinner and stuff
I will probably be going to the Met in the daytime or whatever and show Gooey around if he is up for it so I should be free by then, but since I have to watch my monies I'm probably going to be the lame kid who brings a packed lunch
the talk of protests reminds me of a discussion I had once
back when I was still in the AUF
we were talking about how to do counter-demonstrations effectively
the example brought forward as a really well done counter-demonstration was during a anti-gay marriage demonstration
There was a substantial crowd, and instead of just trying to rally more people who would just appear to be of the same crowd from afar (plus I don't think you get permissions for simoultaneous counter-demonstrations)
they made a huuge banner and hung it on the side of a building in the demonstration's path
it was a huge red heart with "Adam+Even" (Adam+Steve) written in it, and "Størst av alt er kjærligheten" (The greatest of [all] is love) underneath
every news item about the demonstration had a big picture showing the banner and very little about the ones actually demonstrating
i have reached a point where a person could tell me there's a tumblr or a blog for the weirdest, most esoteric shit and i'd not even be surprised anymore
the internet is too big
too easy

This reads like: "I'm sorry I got mad because you are all so dumb."
WHICH IS NOT ENTIRELY INACCURATE. But amusing as an apologetic statement.
