The Foot Pain

While running on Saturday, my right foot started to ache a bit. As I had bumped my run from 3 to 5 miles, I chalked it up to general strain and stretched/relaxed it that night and it was fine the next morning. Went running again on Sunday, and it started to ache occasionally at about 2 miles and ache constantly by time I got back home. Again, elevated it, wrapped it, and kept off of it since. However, the dull, aching pain has pretty much not gone away whenever I put any weight on my foot (entering day four now). I'd think it a sprain but it is located on the center of my foot, on the outer right side (about halfway between my pinkie toe and my heel).
Looking for any thoughts about what it might be, and what a doctor would do about it. I have insurance, but this is a very important time for my work and getting away is pretty rough if all that will be done is suggest I keep off of it for a few days.
Probably stress fractures on your metatarsals or something. You should probably get to your doctor when you can. I'd see if you can't get to the doctor during lunch or something and get a time to do an xray or otherwise.

Yeah, see a doctor when you get an opportunity or can make an opportunity. You don't want to play around with ignoring foot pain, it's absolutely miserable to live that way for any length of time.
yes, definitely stay off of it for a few days. it may be a stress fracture, etc., OR just an agitated nerve.
I had an agitated nerve under each of my big toes, which apparently was the result of several years of too much pressure on my toes. i noticed it after i started running longer distances. the doctor said it was non-surgical, but that i should wear a particular, orthopedic wrap to protect it while running and to relieve the pressure, and guess what... it healed! (took a little over 2 months, though, while taking ibuprofen.) it may take time, and you may get antsy, but be sure you do what's necessary to relieve the pressure there so that it doesn't get worse. best see someone who specializes in orthopedic care (and more specifically, a podiatrist). good luck!
Time to stay off it for a few days.
Advil and Aleve are my recommendations.
If you've gotta work out - hit the pool - all the cardio and weight resistance with none of the impact.

did they see a break or just evidencec of bone healing?
i got a stress fracture in my metatarsel way back when and they only saw it since the fracture started healing
Doctor thought it was very likely and had a good idea of where it was via the xrays. He'll know how bad in two weeks when they look for the calcification on the bone from the healing and whatnot. Until then, training is on hold.
Also I was told I needed new running shoes. Apparently my pair from 2001 is probably the root of the problem.
yea the stress fracture was annoying since not only did my foot hurt from the fracture, but it caused me to walk funny and that in turn caused more pain. mine started hurting me at like day 3 of a 7 day hike and I didn't get it x-rayed for like 2-3 weeks later.

Jebus, how regularly do you run? If you're in a regular 3 mile range a few-5 times weekly, you should have been replacing those shoes yearly if not more often! Get thee to New Balance and drinketh the kool aid and feel comfortable and serene henceforth (albeit poorer for it).

Jebus, how regularly do you run? If you're in a regular 3 mile range a few-5 times weekly, you should have been replacing those shoes yearly if not more often! Get thee to New Balance and drinketh the kool aid and feel comfortable and serene henceforth (albeit poorer for it).
I run 2 to 3 miles about three times a week (pretty consistently since that time). They were really, really expensive shoes and were pretty top quality until about last year when they started to wear out. There's, ah, a lot of duct tape on them now.
Buying new shoes is expensive. And, uh... I'm stupid, apparently.
Wearing a boot for two to four weeks is worse, though. New shoes will be bought as soon as I'm out of the boot.
