That sucks for the many people, probably in all PAL regions at least, who not only want a PS3 but had to wait several extra months for the opportunity to buy one. It really has me baffled, too. Does Sony really think it's a good idea to charge more for an inferior verion of a product that's already had undewhelming performance at retail? I cna understand that taxation on imports and stuff varies from country to country - but to actively remove functionality and still up the price? Ouch.

Sounds like they're trying to reduce production costs, but yea, I don't think it's worth it. The PR alone on this must be painful. Honestly, even I'm starting to get tired of the Sony bashing...but it's so hard not to when they do stuff like this on a daily basis.
