The one time I want to talk about [comparative politics] corporatism, Mazzyx isn't around, and ronya would start talking about like, tripartism or whatever
what am I chopped liver

I'm very interested in Russian economic policy and post-Soviet politics; I guess particularly about the reconciliation of the oligarchs into the neo-nationalist Putin structure. I kind of want someone to start a thread on it, but I don't think I'd have much to actually say.
I actually don't want to chat about politics right now I was just being all guilt trip granny
but I don't think you'll have a paltry OP if you pose a question about, like, hey, how do you think this trembling Russian architecture will hold up in an age of increasing globalization etc
I've learned not to talk about politics because I'm the only smart person on the internet and everyone else is stupid for not understanding why my viewpoint is 100% flawless.

my impression is that it's not very different from standard nationalist authoritarian cronyism elsewhere, except more deadly because the stakes are so high. i.e., the monolithic state enforces a degree of order by selecting a number of already-powerful cronies and then dividing the rents from power among them. Anybody who rocks the boat gets thrown overboard quickly before the boat sinks. For a relatively small and controllable amount of cronies, the incentive for each crony is to continue to support economic growth and investment instead of taking the money and running; thus the regime enjoys relatively high growth, which it links to the prospect of national strength during political challenges to its power - the high growth might not be evenly distributed, after all, so the electorate need to be pleased that someone Russian is getting rich.
