Let's talk about it.

If you enjoy open world games, you should check out Saints Row the Third. I had a blast with Saints Row 2, and the third installment takes the over the top gangster satire thing from SR2 and goes crazy with it.

The story is pretty basic-- the Saints rob the wrong bank and wind up at war with a powerful crime Syndicate-- but the game push it over the top, and the missions are supposed to feature huge set pieces. The Saints wind up in a new city, Steelport, that has sort of a Detroit/Chicago/Pittsburgh post-industrial mess thing going on and fight the three gangs that make up the Syndicate-- Morningstar, the Luchadors and the Deckers. You also fight STAG, which is basically SHIELD.

As you can see, character customization returns in this installment. You can make a monstrosity or whatever.

It is going to have seamless drop-in/out co-op.

And speaking of purple dildos, it was at around this point I played Saints Row: The Third's "Whored Mode." Volition's spin on the now-standard "Horde Mode" that sends wave upon wave of enemies at the player doesn't establish a new bar in gameplay innovation, but it's still memorable.

Wave one of Whored Mode pits you, the player, against a swarm of prostitutes. They have guns, you have a deadly, wobbling purple dong. Wave two sends bondage enthusiasts after you, with nothing but your fists to protect you. You fight prostitutes with a tank, zombies with a chainsaw, men in Saints Row energy drink costumes with a rotating selection of guns.

You fight as a giantess in Whored Mode, against tiny zombies and massive hot dog men, versus barely dressed angels in a sniper-on-sniper battle. You may want to play Whored Mode until you tap out, just to see how wacky things get—even though they start off super, super wacky. But after the novelty wears off, you may find it inferior to its Horde Mode imitating peers. I don't know, but I'm curious to see to what lengths Volition goes.

The whole pornstars as QA testers thing has to be some kind of joke. I'm not worried though, pretty much everyone who has played the game says it controls well and is fun to play.

The PC version is being handled "in-house" rather than out-sourced, so people are saying it will be a lot better and more stable and everything than Saints Row 2 PC.

The great thing about the character customization feature is that it's always reflected in the game, even during the cutscenes. So there's my character, completely naked and wearing a giant cat mask, having serious conversations with her crew. You're also given a choice between seven different voice options and it's not just a simple voice swap. Your character will say different things based on their dialect and the characters you talk to will even respond differently based on whatever voice you use.

The highlight of all this is easily the zombie voice. The zombie voice is complete gibberish, just moans and groans as your character attempts some sort of conversation while other characters talk down at you like a child. All these voice options alone guarantees that I'll play the game's story through multiple times just to see how everyone reacts differently, especially to the zombie voice.

I JUST got SR2 from Goozex and i'm having a pretty good time spraying shit all over stuff, and brutally upholding justice on Fuzz. Everything is pretty silly and it looks like this continues in the 3rd one. I might have to get this b/c i am stupid with money.
