Also FYI, if you need to do the secret message thing again (like you missed a letter), you can do it by watching the ending video from the Theater mode. Just make sure you watch ALL the credits or you don't unlock the message (all god damn three sets of them... this game has way too many fucking credits)... I made that mistake once -_-
For the questions I'm guessing you need to replay the ending. I cheated and looked up the answers, but I assume this doesn't happen if you don't answer them correctly. Someone tell me if I'm wrong:
DiZ/Ansem gives Riku a bottle which is supposed to have special data in it. I assume this only happens if you answer them right... though I'm guessing he still shows up either way.

Yeah that happens either way. Also, this game has a lot of credits but holy shit those were a lot of bosses too. It was like 1 for Sora and 5 for Riku right? That's more than any of the previous games I think.

Just beat this! A fairly challenging set of final bosses, it took me like 3 hours of retries. (And then 2 hours of credits).
Ending spoilers:
The second version of Ansem Seeker of Darkness that Riku fights was what gave me the most trouble. Xemnas, Ansem fight 1, and even Young Xehanort weren't as bad for me.
One of my favorite dialogue exchanges from the end:
Riku: "Axel!"
Lea: "No, I just told you my name, it's - you know what, Axel's fine."
I'm pretty sure I called it like, an entire thread ago, but Sora's heart being a world where you need to go rescue Roxas, Ven, and Xion turned out to be true! So psyched!
This game definitely advanced the plot a fair bit, but it's all preparatory, for the most part.
I have 6 trophies + beat the game on Normal, is that enough for the Secret Ending? Couldn't tell what part of the extremely long ending was extra. Also, I missed some letters in the "Credits Dive" have to do that again. Ugh.

Good experience overall, now for post game!
If you had 6 trophies prior to beating the game, you should be fine since you get a trophy for beating the game.

The secret ending doesn't actually show during the ending. You have to go into Theater mode to view it.
And you need all the letters in the credits dive too
Certain Dream Eaters like Jestabocky, Juggle Pup, R & R Seal and Tama Sheep can unlock them. You can also purchase them from moogle shops during Sale Forcasts.

It helps to distance yourself from the boss and remember that it's all a game and that you are better than him just for existing.
If Kingdom Hearts has taught me anything, it's that not existing can't be held against a person. Some of the nicest people don't exist!
Also, I beat the boss in question by staying at a distance, lots of dodge rolling, and shooting long range magic + baloon magic in between dodges. And multiple cure commands.
Ergh. My PS2 makes horrible noises.
Playing on an emulator doesn't look right either.
Guess I'll have a look and see if I can find a cheap slim or something.

What are you guys playing on? I thought that boss wasn't that bad on Normal. You playing on Proud? Also which one is that - I assume Riku's boss, right? (having a hard time remembering but I know Sora's was way easier)
Huzzah, KH2 done and dusted. I can't remember if I ever did the entire journal the first time through. It was a pain, but at least doable. Not like BBS's bullcrap.
Welp, time to dust off Re: Coded. It's probably completely pointless to play, but eh, might as well do it just to justify the dang purchase.
"The sausage of Green Earth explodes with flavor like the cannon of culinary delight."
My strategy for the end bosses, at least on Normal, was double-jump and Firaga Burst. Seriously, a spell that reliably takes off a health bar and a half per cast? Sold.
Also, reading the chronicles, I can't help but feel like Kingdom Hearts has a case of Homestuck sickness. It sounds like it started out as a relatively coherent narrative with a nifty hook, and then exploded into a giant unmanageable tangle of badly dissociated plot points that the writing team has been desperately attempting to assemble into something that doesn't leak ever since.
Take this opinion with a grain of salt, however; I have only played this and 358/2 days, so it might be easier to follow than I think.

My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.
I think dream drop actually did a halfway decent job of tying everything together. At the very least it had probably the most coherent story of all the games post-KH1.
Kingdom Hearts makes sense when it's broken down in layman's terms like in DDD's Chronicles section. The problem is that all of the characters in the series have an incredibly confounding and over-complicted matter of explaining relatively basic concepts. The glossary also helps at defining just what exactly a heart, keyblade, darkness etc. is where it would just otherwise be left as a metaphor amongst dialogue.
But really, the plot is all there and it does tie together.

I think the biggest problem with KH's plot is the whole hearts/heartless/nobodies thing. I find the whole concept really confusing since a lot of it deals with things that are almost symbolic/metaphysical... except they are not supposed to be here. So it's like "heart" means like five different things depending on the context.
Like, the whole "Sora has a lot of hearts connected to him because he has a lot of friends and people who care about him" would make sense, except then it's treated like those people are actually inside him, except some of them are not. And some of them are... It's all very weird.
Edit: Also the way they handled Xehonort has not really been graceful. DDD does better than any of the others to try and make sense of the whole thing, but I mean, there are literally fucking 13 versions of this guy, most of which have freaking different names. Some of which have the SAME name as other characters. And all of which are largely gibberish names (seriously, Xehanort, Xemnas, Ansem... these are not real names...)
KH2 is annoying, but I'm almost done with it (I think). I'm at (endgame spoilers)...
Halloween Town for the second time. I've finished all worlds (first and second time) except for Pride Lands, Space Paranoids, and one there's also one more black lock square on Hollow Bastion. Oh and chapter 5 of Atlantica.
Assuming I don't do anything extra, about how long do I have left? I'm playing on Proud Mode. I want to see the full+secret ending and move on to 358/2. I'm around level 44.
KH2 wouldn't be half as annoying if it didn't take up to a full minute to read my memory card for saving/loading on the PS3. Was it that slow running on the PS2? Gah.

It's really not a super horribly complex plot.
It's just presented about as poorly as you could manage without purposely obfuscating it.
