I want the subplot for the Toy Story world to be that one of the heroes disagrees without thinking that they are a toy and both Buzz and Woody shift into high gear trying to convince them that they are and it's okay to be a toy. But KH seems to have forgotten how to be funny, so probably not happening.
The hype for KH3 made me continue my run at Proud Mode, KH1 Final Mix this weekend. As a reminder, I've beaten every game in the series, but none of them on Proud or Critical. The weirdest thing about FM is that it throws in bizarre reskin enemies with different properties, which was the entire game of 358/2 Days. There's a cloaking Soldier Heartless! It hits like a fucking truck! There's a pot scorpion in Agrabah that's invincible?? There's a flying Heartless that plays a Shell game with copies of itself. There's a monkey Heartless that acts like a Zelda cuccoo and summons unlimited (?) reinforcements that snipe the shit out of you. It's neat and surprising but weird.
Proud Mode actually makes me consider the mechanics of boss fights and occasionally appreciate my team mates, which is nice. Like how useful Gravity is against Malificent. Or how you're meant to fight Ursula by magicing up her cauldron. On Normal, you can normally get by with just healing and swinging your blade wildly.
The hardest fights so far have been:
1) Ursula (big). To beat this, I had to load up the whole team with items and redo my accessories to favor Thunder resist. Just a whole lot of bullshit attacks going off every second, combined with wonky swimming controls and a huge sack of hit points.
2) Trickmaster. This would have been okay... if I had Cure, Scan, and Thunder. With none of these things, it was a fucking bear. You're fighting the camera and your shitty, pathetic jump just as much as this guy. You HAVE to jump off the environment to attack, but he's allowed to destroy it temporarily to fuck you. Also, his fire attacks are way TOO homing, holy shit. Are you close to winning? Who knows, you won't be able to see enemy health for another 10 levels. Guhhhh.
3) Malificent (Dragon): This could have gone WAY worse, but after my experience with Ursula, I loaded up on items and added fire resist after only one loss and got it done. The thing that's interesting about this battle is that unlike the other two where you have to play very cautiously, all out aggression with healing breaks seemed to work out better on this one. The way to stop her OP stomp barrage attack is just to smack her for example. Having Aero going all the time is also more reasonable at this stage of the game.
I was wondering if the big Riku duel would be trouble, but I easily aced that one. Having counter is a wonderful thing in a sword fight type boss.
The zerg rush hallway in The End of the World is such fucking bullshit on Proud Mode. I'm thinking of bringing my KH 1.5 run to a close to give Chain of Memories a try.
Guardian Sora's DPS is simply not there. I'm using Gravity on everything for the second half of the game.

The last Kingdom Hearts game I played was 2, and I haven't really been keeping up with the news on this one.
But two things that jumped out to me in that trailer is that temporary party members don't replace Donald or Goofy anymore, and worlds can have more than one.
Also, it seems like Ansem (the fake one) and Xemnas are trying to figure out how to put Heartless and Nobodies back together again? You'd think that'd be something the good guys would be on board with.

I thought they were both dead?
Xehanort is cheating like it was the end of Digimon season 2. His various past selves are aiding his present self via time travel.

can you really blame him? the Kingdom Hearts 1 came out in 2002. we've all time traveled 15 years, just at regular speed.
The invincible pot scorpion is actually a miniboss iirc, and it is killable I think.
Yes, progress has been made. I don't know if you'd call the new Final Mix enemies minibosses per se, but they're certainly little shits.
The pot scorpion is killable by blocking when it rushes you. This flips it onto its back where you can then murder it.
There's a garbage can monster that appears in Halloween Town. You break a health bar on the body which exposes it's true weak point/ lifebar in the head. Not too bad, but certain stabbing attacks are dangerous.
There's a recolor of the big fish from Atlantica that appears in Neverland as a flying enemy. It fires recolored trident mermen Heartless that steal money from you? It was very fast and fled before I filleted it.
Finally there's that insane Stealth Soldier Heartless. Its health is not too bad, but its damage is on the highest possible tier. It kills your party members in a hit or two and always appears in a group with visible enemies to screw with you.
With tonight's play, I cleared to The End of the World, getting all the Trinities, Dalmatians, Torn Pages, and so on. I haven't cleared all the possible Herc tournies, but I don't feel bad saving some of those. The optional bosses can mostly be challenged at this point, not counting the arena ones, but I'm not ready for them. My team is just starting in the level 50s.
The only minibosses that I didn't like were the cup game one and the giant mushroom one in tarzan's world (and that one is only bad because of the triangle function re. your allies).

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm still baffled Disney would allow the series' original story to become THAT convoluted and nonsensical. But really, there was no going back once Nobodies showed up.

While Disney has very strict rules on how their own characters are to be handled, when it comes to the original story, I think they're up for anything as long as Square Enix assures them that "Japanese people like this kind of thing".
I think the final mix version of kh1 might be my favorite kingdom hearts game.
Overall it's better than KH1 vanilla, but hoooof the special miniboss heartless they added are all the worst dumb gimmicks.
The controls, camera, and suicidal allied AI are ruining my 1.5 experience.
Once they took camera from the shoulder buttons to the second stick, what else is bad about the controls? The AI always gets murdered, no matter what game it is.

I like the Nobodies and Org XIII far more than than the generic darkness babble of the Heartless but I feel ya.

Which is weird since
Based on what happens in Dream Drop Distance, you figure out how
Destroying someones heartless and Nobody puts the person back together and whole, exactly where they were first turned, as if nothing had happened. You see Axel and everyone else from Org XIII wake up in DDD, save Xehanort,
Saix and Xigbar, who just woke up early and peaced out before Axel woke up. You don't even need the keyblade to do it, since Axel destroyed himself in KH2 and came back right as rain.
Nomura really just needs his own game again, where he can do whatever he wants without having to worry about it conflicting with anyone else's vision. I would probably buy it.

When Babby Xehanort says they're missing a darkness, I figured he meant they're missing one of their 13 organization members, who they need for the final battle.
Which makes sense, since they failed to turn Sora into one of them.

Yeah but personally my bet is on it being Vanitas, who doesn't really have a Heartless or a Nobody, so it has nothing to with finding a way to put the two together.

Yeah. I get the feeling one of their goals is gonna be to make Vanitas manifest again at the same time that Sora restores Ven's heart. Hence their pushing Sora towards using the darkness or finding a way to give someone who shouldn't exist a body
They want that to happen, but they're too lazy or unimaginative to make it happen, so they just prod Sora until he does it for them. That's kinda funny.

Accurate.
It's probably a good sign that this is basically how I feel each time they reveal a new world
