Thank you Red Raevyn. I haven't seen one either, but I've seen a very awesome floating crown in the Hellboy books. Also I like your avatar.

I've been pretty busy at work and feeling all drawn-out (hah... *snort* ... heh.........) by the end of the day, so haven't been sketching much at home...

    Couple oldies too:

    Cheers mate.

I do have a Tumblr but I don't use it that much... really ought to... thanks for the tip!

At the moment I work at PikPok concepting for iOS games. I've only been there a few months, still a rookie compared to the awesome people I get to work with. We just released Robot Unicorn Attack 2, but that was before my time here. :)

    Edit: Here you go,

I feel that water in the first illustration is in an odd place. While it does help to focus the eye on the centre of the drawing, why would it be running across the path, breaking it up?
While its fun to draw running water, I think you should think about its placement in this world. Because right now it just looks like its been thrown in there without much thought.
Cool stuff otherwise, I like that bulky robot.

Oh man oh man oh man, I want to write little short stories to accompany all these pieces. Keep up the great work!

Got back into traditional work a bit, it's a nice change from all digital.

That shit is sick. You working on vellum? Bristol? Also, do you pencil first or just do markers right off the bat? and uh, do you have your designs thought up or are these just doodles gone wild?

Sorry for the 20 questions, just curious. One more question, is that newest one ink? if so brush or what?

  • McJohnstableMcJohnstable Registered User regular
Cheers ninjai. :) I'm not sure what paper it is this time, it's a new sketchbook that just looked nice on the shelf. Red pencils first then ink over them, but on this one I ended up eventually just going straight to ink for half of it. This was just a doodle gone wild. I just used a fine liner for this one.

Gunshield appears infinitely more functional than Jetscalibur. Both deliciously Silly. Good work.

edit: Also I'd probably pay a ton of money towards a video game that maintained your art style and designs within the game. One that would hopefully maintain the marker feel.

I disagree, with an incredible gripping glove, jetscalibur could be the best weapon of all time.

And yeah, as long as they picked up your crazy good digital marker style (which you're nailing now) I think a game would be super wicked crazy fun.

  • McJohnstableMcJohnstable Registered User regular
Thanks heaps. I'm actually doing work for a local game company called PikPok, it's great fun here.

Though because of doing illustration stuff most of the day, I don't have as much energy to do really big marker pieces like before, so it's been fun kicking back in the meantime with small doodles like these ones instead:

    Thanks peeps.

Iruka, I did work on a game at work called Rival Stars Basketball, however my stuff only shows up a little bit in it and I had to adjust my drawing quite a lot to fit the brief; it was a fantastic learning experience though... It's currently on iOS.

tapeslinger, thanks! I'm sure they want to be in all the things.

Arden Canelo, I haven't, other than a few panels I've done for fun... A picturebook is always on the backburner (but never on the front one? One day!)

In the meantime, here's a mask that me and my partner made with coloured paper and ink as part of a maskmaking weekend with some really talented friends. It was good fun; and also that's me behind the getup!
