Huh, I didn't realize that the Michigan recall did not receive financial backing from the Dem party and was outspent by a huge margin. Impressive.

Is it possible that fucking over teachers may not be as popular as initially believed?

Yeah their biggest asset is that the average voter doesn't follow politics enough to realize that the Republicans are fucking teachers.

It's wildly unpopular among non insane individuals

Virginia Republicans declare a 20-20 Democrat-Republican split in the State Senate a decisive mandate for conservative values.

    Surprise.

Well, mandate or not, it's going to be pretty impossible to stop them doing whatever they please now that they control both houses and the governorship... so hooray for gerrymandering and voter apathy, I guess.

    Allegedly a voice of reason.

In all fairness, the way we scheduled our state senate elections so that they cannot possibly ever coincide with a statewide election makes me think that voter apathy is precisely what we've been counting on all this time.

    Oh, no doubt.

Also with half the races being uncontested.

The Shannon Taylor win gave me some hope, though.

Apathy and confusion is the point of these off-season elections. Low turnout elections are EULAs of democracy.

I was looking up the turnout numbers for Colorado and I was actually kind of surprised. First off most turnout numbers you see are votes divided by people of voting age. On our Secretary of State's website I could only find votes divided by registered voters. That is why the numbers below look a bit higher than normal.

    Colorado Voter Turnout:
2005: 49% (we had some major state wide issues like personhood so I think this inflated this off year turnout)
    2006: 62%
    2007: no statewide ballot initiatives
    2008: 91%
    2009: no statewide ballot initiatives
    2010: 73%
    2011: 39%

No, I am not really communist. Yes, it is weird that I use this name.

Thank god. I was actually surprised it did, must have been too confusing for the normal low info Eyeman support.

Ed Houck just conceded, so Virginia is now 100% Republican controlled.

It's going to be nice to finally have all those pesky women and minorities be second-class citizens again.

Oh damnation, now I'm glad that I'm scheduled to graduate at the end of next summer.
