Skyrim
Saint's Row: The Third
Bastion
Batman: Arkham City
Mortal Kombat
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
LA Noire
Dragon Age II
Assassin's Creed: Revelations
Marvel vs. Capcom 3
I haven't played Portal 2, Dead Space 2 or The Witcher 2 but I expect they would have made the list as well
But man, when you are giving GOTY, and one of the criteria is how fun it is, how do you not give it to Saint's Row the Third
Personally I had more fun with Skyrim!
Saint's Row had a fantastic campaign, even if it was super disjointed, but I had no desire to play the side shit after it was done
Skyrim maybe didn't have as much fun concentrated into a 10 hour period, but I consistently enjoyed myself for all of the 60-70 hours I played, which never happens.
Saint's Row should be at my apartment tomorrow. I want to play that before I make a final decision on my top ten (like my journalistic integrity is at stake or something). But I think my top three are pretty entrenched right now.
I had more fun with Skyrim than Saint's Row but only just. Saint's Row would have nailed it if they hadn't done such a poor job with Johnny Gat and some of the end stuff though. That final mission lead up before the big choices was not fun at all.
Bastion
The Witcher 2
Portal 2
Dragon Age 2
Skyrim
DX: HR
Shogun 2
Dark Souls
Assassin's Creed Revelations
More than likely I would end up putting Dirt 3 here, but I haven't been able to play it fully yet and I don't think L.A. Noire should be on this list seeing as how I got bored and never finished it even though I bought it day 1 release
we don't live in a world where skyrim is ever more fun than Saints Row 3
i want us to make a thread for SE++ GOTY awards and we are just going to talk about this for forever
T4CT
people have other opinions
going NOPE YOU ARE WRONG about it is just being kind of a dick
i hope you know sometimes that i value other people's opinions and I just do this to be a dick about it
i'm aware that other people have opinions
but fuck you they're wrong opinions and mine are the only right ones
Well
you're not really being a funny dick
you're just being a dick because you do it all the damn time
nope it just happens that this thread brings up a lot of games i straight up hate
i have already talked about all the things i love about skyrim in this thread so I have earned my right to say it is a very good game and i understand why people like it but I prefer Saints Row 3 because i enjoy fun games for fun and that's all I need from a game objectively the worst game of 2011
i'm not trying to be funny i just am sad it did not win goty and i will continue to say it's better than skyrim
basically i will contribute to actual constructive discussion but i will never be the person who starts such a thing
listened to last year's podcasts and they were like best story! nominees include starcraft 2...and I was like whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat
No Best Ending category either which I thought was weird. Didn't they bring that up in other podcasts?
Maybe they felt it was too obvious? I dunno. I can't imagine anything topping Portal 2.
Having not played Portal 2
Arkham City and Saint's Row both had really strong endings
Arkham City had a pretty damn amazing ending considering what changed in that universe there at the end.
I don't really get anything out of Portal's gameplay. I mean, I get all the humor and appreciate clever writing, but I'd almost rather that be couched in an animated short or something. Which I suppose is all great when it comes to something like an ending, I just never get to the ending because I grow incredibly bored of playing the actual game. It happened with the first game too. All subjective, I suppose.
I thought Dead Space 2 had a great ending. It fakes you out, then gives you one last cool little actiony bit, then calls back to the ending of Dead Space 1 in a very clever way.

I'd say it has the best story out of any RTS I've played. Much like how Mortal Kombat has the best story out of any fighting game.

dead space 2

there were a few surprises and their Top 3 is also my Top 3, in that order as well, so I am perfectly happy
I don't think he would have posts in this thread if you stopped him from saying NOPE YOU ARE WRONG...
except it's just clips from saints row 3, and instead of making jokes he just masturbates
Do it
Steam
didn't realize it had splashed so well with the GB guys
YEAH I SAID IT

I'll never get over how bad the story is told in the Dead Space games
But they play so goddamn well I can accept it on a top ten list

man the dialogue I saw was average and barely competently voiced so I dunno

la noire
i haven't really played enough games this year for a top ten
Assuming of course you've played Portal. Valve basically gives it away free these days.
Both because I'm poor
So I can't really make an accurate top 10 in terms of games of the year
Steam
sorry la noire
bastion, batman, dead space, portal 2, skyrim
It is sitting in my steam!
but Newegg sent me a defective motherboard so I won't be able to play it for two weeks
open world games can jump deez nuts. gimme a tight, polished linear gaming experience
also if your animations and controls aren't on point i will hate your game forever

that is it
Not one of the best stories of the year, though.
