In PW, when you get stunned, is there an efficient way to wiggle the stick to get out of it quickly, or is it just the game telling you to go fuck yourself for 30 seconds? I wiggling the thing like a madman, but I'd rather not break the thing if it doesn't make a fuckload of a difference.

And BF3/MW3, if you're into that sort of thing. Which I am.
Long story short, there has been an epic amount of awesomeness released in the last two months, starting with Gears of War 3 in September. I bought that one and BF3, but could have easily also gotten MW3, Skyrim, Skyward Sword and the MGS HD collection without blinking an eye. But I don't have the time for all this gloriousness, and these will all go on sale at some point.

MGS HD collection, Uncharted 3, Sonic Generations, Serious Sam: BFE, Skyrim, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, Skyward Sword... And I still haven't picked up the ICO/Shadow of the Colossus pack, yet. My bank account can't repel firepower of that magnitude. My free time is scarcely enough to tackle one game at a time, too. Why couldn't some of this stuff come out during the summer, when nothing was going on, and I wasn't worried about holiday shopping?

So for those of us PSP-less, how crucial is Peace Walker to the overall MGS saga? And just what the heck was up with Portable Ops as well?
Metal Gear PW is billed as MGS5 in the PSP intro.
I loved Peace Walker, but it's not really worthy being called MGS5. It's a great game, with a good story, but it doesn't push the series forward in terms of gameplay or storyline.
I dunno, I thought both Portable Ops and PW, canonically, filled in a good part of the story gap that explains why and how things went from Snake Eater to the original Metal Gear game. Ops did a good deal of it on its own, and PW cemented in some of the themes. Moreso if you do Chapter 5 of PW. Admittedly, while I enjoy the gameplay better in Peace Walker, it does feel like a bit of an add-on storywise to Portable Ops. It's still perfectly good on its own, and if you hadn't played Ops, PW would be an okay enough substitute to bridge the gap between MGS3 and MG.
Maybe it's not enough to be considered MGS5, but both games were fairly important to the Metal Gear lore.
I just feel like the main games (MG1-2, MGS1-4) told us everything we needed to know about what happened between Snake Eater and Metal Gear. We know about all the important things that Big Boss did. PO and PW definitely flesh that period out more, but I don't feel like they're totally essential. With the Metal Gear series, you could easily just play MGS1-4 and get the whole story.
But like I said before, you should play Peace Walker because it's an awesome game, regardless of whether you think it's a crucial installment in the story.

During development, PW was MGS5:PW. So that should be fairly telling.
I want an actual, developed-for-ps3 MG game starring Big Boss to come out. What I'm saying is I want MGS3 running on a new engine, basically.
Alternatively, if Konami would release a DLC for MGS4 that gave Old Snake a Big Boss-like full beard instead of his high school geometry teacher mustache I would pay upwards of $30 for it. I am so not kidding.
Old Snake's mustache is stupid and I hate it and if you like it you're wrong and should hate yourself.

How is this on the PS3?
I have been wanting to grab this for my 360 but I will probably be getting a PS3 finally during black Friday. I kind of want to wait and get it for the PS3 instead as a game to get with the system.

Yea, I think I'll wait and make it one of my first PS3 purchases. Whee!
In other news, with this coming out I wanted to replay MGS and I don't have access to it. Then last Friday my wife and I visited a garage sale, and the guy has a box full of PS2 and PS1 games. He had in there MGS with the manual and a case that was in prestine condition, and you know how much he wanted for it? A buck! I got it for one dollar!
I also grabbed out of the box the first Armored Core, the first Wipeout, and the Atari 2600 Activision collection for PS1 all for a buck each. I made out like an awesome bandit!
All of the games were in their original case with manual and in great shape. It was awesome.

Virtually flawless. Everything looks sharp and is smooth as hell. The few videos of the 360 version I saw had extra loading screens and times in places. The only time I could ever make the PS3 do that was by rapidly mass skipping through cutscenes.
So far, I've only found a few blemishes on the whole thing.
MGS2:
- The codec seems to lag a bit in MGS2. You answer it, it pops up, and then it takes about 3 seconds for the heads to come up and start talking. I can't remember if it was like this in the original though.
- The pressure sensitivity on the assault rifles is borked to hell. Hold to aim, press harder to shoot? It's way too sensitive, just the slightest bit of pressure has you firing like a madman. The weird thing is that every other form of pressure sensitivity in the collection works perfectly, so it's just an isolated bug with this weapon.
MGS:PW:
- I found exactly one instance that would cause the framerate to tank for a second. In defense, considering what's going on screen, it's almost justifiable, and it's gone in a flash.
It's during one of those Monster Hunter fights where this dragon is shooting 3 fireballs at you
They're all not even worthy of complaints, but they are there. But otherwise yeah, pretty much flawless.

Edit: Awesome, yea, I'll wait. I want to get this and the Sly Collection as my purchases with the system, so whoo!
Funnily enough, Sly Collection is my only other experience with the whole HD remaster shtick. And that game had some issues. Everything played perfectly fine, but they really slacked off during the widescreen conversion. Everytime a cutscene fades out, the sides of the screen are still visible, the binoculars in first person only taking up the middle of the screen, stuff like that. Basically the seams were painfully visible. None of that here, you'd swear these games were always in widescreen.
Haven't played any other HD remaster, but so far this is my gold standard on the whole thing.

Not R&C?
That's cool Brainiac. I'll add ya to my friends list once you pick one up.
Oh and as far as the remasters go, any of the Bluepoint ports are quality (GoW, Ico/SotC and MGS). Sanzaru Games (Sly Collection and now working on Sly 4) and Ready at Dawn (GoW Origins) did pretty great jobs too. The rest though? Eh, proceed with caution. Both of Ubisoft's attempts have been quick, lazy ports (PoP and Splinter Cell) and the Tomb Raider Trilogy wasn't the greatest. Next year we've got Jak & Daxter, ZoE (Bluepoint's next job), FFX, Silent Hill and DMC coming so there's plenty more to come.
Edit: Yeah I noticed that too Wolfman. Still, I think that was really my only complaint with the Sly Collection.

The loading was really fast in Sons of Liberty, but it was quite a bit slower in Substance. I don't have the collection so I can't compare it to Substance, though.

I'm pretty sure I had this same problem in the original version. I didn't even know you could aim them without shooting for a good while.

Ack, I spoke too soon. Sly may have to wait because I really want the two R&C games first, I forgot about those earlier. So the two R&C games and MGS Collection for my first purchases.

Any word on who's handling the Jak and DMC trilogies?
DMC will probably be in-house at Capcom. Hopefully not the same team that ported the RE games though, I'd like to see some effort put into these ports (DMC3 will look fugly with no anti aliasing).
I'm not sure about the Jak Collection but my best guess would be Naughty Dog themselves. Mostly because I'm not sure who else would be familiar enough with GOAL (their old in-house programming language) to port it to PS3. It'd make scheduling sense too, as they could probably get it done between Uncharted 3 and whatever they do next.
Oh and Brainiac, you'll want the PSN R&C, Quest for Booty, as well. It's a fun little game. Fits in between the two main games pretty well.
I feel like the ending of MGS3 gives you enough to connect the dots to get Big Boss from there to Outer Heaven. PO and PW fill in the painting on that path and show him developing relationships with a few of the important characters that didn't get introduced in MGS3, like Roy Campbell and Miller.

If only working on the trilogy would give them the urge to make another game like the original J&D. Jak 2-3 were alright, but I really loved the first one.

I think Kojima did a great job of making MGS1-4 stand on their own as a complete narrative. As much as MGS1 references back to those first two MG games, you really didn't need to have played them to appreciate the history that was there. It didn't make you feel like you were coming in on the 3rd chapter, even though you technically were. Same with PO/PW. You don't feel lost without them, but they still add to the experience.
Just got to the true final boss in Peace Walker. Chapter 5 was... uh, yeah.
The story was pretty dang good. Since this was made after MGS4 tied up everything, it's not as though they can ask or answer any new questions. It still stands up well on its own, and I was rather surprised by just how much this is a full-blown sequel to 3.
Ch. 4 spoilers:
Everything is wrapped up, and they put that added seed of what Big Boss will become. No fuss, no muss.
Ch. 5 spoilers:
And then the Zeke thing comes literally out of nowhere. I ended up spoiling myself somewhat on Paz a long time ago, so I already knew she'd lose it eventually. But I was at least hoping to figure out how and why. Nope, none of that, just "ohai I'm evil". That said though, at least they then go into a bit of detail on the whole Big Boss/Zero hissy fit that eventually leads to the world getting bent over by the Patriots.

So I had forgotten just how early on I was stuck in Peace Walker. Could anyone give any tips regarding
How to take down the Hind team? I seem to be having huge trouble getting them taken down and Fulton'd without being seen, and the helicopter taking me apart. I don't want to go the destruction route, so I'm not carrying anything other than non-lethal weapons.
After Kojima announced in June of 2010 that he was passing the reigns of Metal Gear Solid: Rising to Shigenobu Matsuyama, control has now passed to Yuji Korekado (who's also working on Zone of the Enders HD). The news was confirmed via the Twitter feed of Kojima Productions producer Kenichiro Imaizumi.

Have you tried smoke grenades to provide cover? A couple should provide a big enough area to work on holding them up or knocking them out. If you have NVG, that will help you see them in the smoke.
Depending on how good your smoke development is, you may need to use more for coverage or stagger use for duration.
