What is contained within this spoiler is a picture from the leak, it has nothing to do with the story of ME3, it does however relate to the discussion about Origin.
So, yeah, whether you're PC or console, it looks like Origin is required.

And this is why people have to wait for cracks to play their own game they way they'd like.
Can we talk about ME: Invasion? The next issue is coming out on the 16th.
I'm so afraid of reading that to avoid ME3 spoilers
is it safe?
do you guys recommend it?
I would think that it takes place pre-ME3, so we're actually supposed to read it beforehand, just like the novel that's coming out in January.
Personally, I'm going to wait until the collected edition comes out and read it then.
is the collectors edition going to have all 3 (or is it 4) books?
Probably not. The first two miniseries are already out in their own collected (not collector's) editions, though Evolution (the one starring TIM) had some of the online comics in the back of the book.
it's basically proto-steam by another name. and EA's pretty canny about tying it to their biggest series to improve adoption rates.
steam was worth it for HL2, and origin is worth it for ME3, especially considering you don't even need to have it running to play the game.
Except it has already been found to do a complete system scan of your files and send periodic reports to EA.
I don't think I want a piece of software to report my activities to a massive corporation.
And we're confident that Steam doesn't do this?
I'm not being snarky, just genuinely curious. Apparently, ME3 will just log into Origin as ME2 logged into your EA Account...whereas Steam you actually had to run in the background.
I think the closest Steam comes to that is the hardware survey they do every so often, which you can opt-out of.
Origin's best feature is that I can play games without it running. I much prefer the Steam overlay anyway; more options, and my PC gaming friends are all on it.
I see. I think the last time I got that message in Steam after booting it up, I made a "Ugh" face, shut it down in the task manager, and played something that didn't require Steam. I probably thought it was mandatory at the time.
Since Origin at least does not require it be run in the background, unlike Steam, unless ME3 is actually doing the scanning, this shouldn't be an issue, I think....

I thought Steam did some pretty intrusive poking around for anti-cheating measures, but I don't know what, and this could be out of date info.
He played a very small part in ME2 so I'll doubt he'll return, but I hope that Mechanic from Horizon shows up in ME3, just so I can have the pleasure of seeing him get crushed into paste by a the foot of a Reaper. That guy sucked, he was the Kiara sterling of ME2, except we didn't get to kill him.

And who's Kiara Sterling? Aside from someone with an awesome first name.

That asshole security guard from Noveria, you fight her on your way of that one office where you have to find the thing for the guy.

No, VAC does indeed look at basically every process you're running, but I'm not sure it runs constantly. I'd figure it'd only run when you were playing a game that used it for cheat protection, but I don't know the specifics.

Though
It is amusing in the whole "console wars" thing, since Steam has already partnered up with Sony on the PS3.

That Gabone dude turned pretty quick.
I almost wish this leak had come sooner.
gonna hate
I still haven't touched most of the DLC.
For a second, I thought this was in reference to the pony. I was very amused.
so this takes place after the events of ME2?
what about after the events of the Arrival DLC pack?
