Whats the best way to relatively cheaply rent a car from the 60s or 70s in LA?
It's my friends birthday and we are trying to rent an old car and drive around. We're also trying to keep it under $300/day.
I know that CinemaCars rents almost anything, however, their prices are REAL high. I assume this is because the cars are going to be used for filming.....
Also there are options like Beverly Hills Car Rental, where you can get a 67 Le Mans for about $400 a day.
The catch is that it doesn't have to be a pristine car or especially collectible. A basic mustang would do, or some giant Buick Syklark.

A basic mustang from the 60s-70s doesn't really exist. You're asking for a vehicle that even if it's not even running is worth a hell of a lot to certain people. I would imagine a lot of what you're paying for in that 400$/day is insurance. Maybe if you went into the 80's and found a Duster or something you could get the price down pretty well, but I don't think you'll find a charger or mustang for what you're willing to pay for an entire day.
Yelp has a few promising listings, though I couldn't find anywhere you don't have to email for a quote. Light googling gave me dozens of interesting looking sites, but nothing jumped out at me, and I assume you know how to google.
If you're really serious, do some googling, email and call around. Sadly, most people I know are pros who could afford to rent at the prime rates.

You might have good luck finding an old beater with a nice coat of paint for a grand or so, and then turning around and reselling it a few days alter. But of course, you are taking a risk on the resale price (and eating the fees associated with a new car).

It was in a 90's movie so take it was a grain of salt, but my freak memory recalls a group of young'uns going to a place called "rent a wreck" and getting a 70's convertible for the day to take a trip.
Some quick googling shows that rent a wreck as an actual car rental company with about five or six branches in Los Angeles.
Now whether or not they ACTUALLY rent old convertibles or muscle cars is a different story, but it's worth a call.

Rent-a-wreck is a regular car rental company like Avis or Budget. They don't specialize in old beaters or anything. It's an odd name for a car rental company but shouldn't be taken literally.
