Is it really OK to get a 3rd party hard drive? I've seen people on other forums say you can get banned for using them, but I don't know if they have any idea what they're talking about.
Also, what do you all use for recharging your controllers? I'm assuming most people don't just keep replacing batteries.
I bought some generic rechargeable batteries I used to use, but buying one of the little stands that charges controllers is cheap and easy. I'd recommend it. I got a cheap brand one and it works great.

Cool. And I guess that set comes with its own rechargeable battery?

I can honestly say I've never heard of anyone being banned for using a third-party hard drive...unless it was modified/hacked to play pirated games.
As for the controller. I've been using the official "recharge kit" that is basically a special rechargable unit that replaces the default battery holder-pack.
When the juice gets low, you simply plug the cable onto the top of the controller and the Xbox itself...it recharges as you play.
Has lasted me for YEARS with no issues or diminished battery life.

Yeah, so many people use the 3rd party hard drives now, they'd be banning tens of thousands of people if they went ahead and did something now..

Yeah most come with rechargeable batteries for two controllers, and a charging dock capable of charging two controllers. So if you have a full set of 4 I'd get two docks. They're only like $10-$15

How does one use an alternate hard-drive with the 360? I'm assuming it's an external HD plugged in via the USB port?

Nah, that's built-in functionality now. Certain hard drive brands and models can be used as replacements for the ones that are built into the 360 if you're willing to do a bit of hacking (and decide you need > 250GB, or don't want to pay their prices for them). Last time I looked I think there was a 500GB that would work, I'm not sure where it's gone since then.
